Demelza Robins ([info]dmlza) wrote in [info]scrapbooked,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Demelza Robins, Trystan Robins, anyone else if I seriously feel like NPCing them.
WHEN: ?
WHERE: Trystan's.
WHAT: Sibling bonding time. And confessionals, possibly.
RATING: PG.
STATUS: Incomplete.

"Snap!" Demelza declared, as she quickly reached over and slapped her hand against the stack of cards. It wasn't Exploding Snap, that game was literally banned. Apparently, Diggory did not relish the prospect of their brand new coffee table being scorched by a deck of obnoxiously exploding cards. Which was weird, because she'd always thought he was the most reckless, after her. But then, he had changed a lot since returning from his stint in the States. "And," she determined, gathering up the pile and adding them to her hand, "I think we can safely say I'll win. You have no chance now."

She tucked her hair back and chewed her lip. She was certainly going to odd lengths to avoid potential deep and meaningfuls. She'd even restricted herself to a soft-drink for the rest of the night.

Trystan glared. If there was one thing that he hated, it was losing. Well, that wasn't entirely true. He also hated injustice, oppression, the Ministry... lots of things, actually. A surprisingly vast number of things. But at this particularly moment, losing was at the forefront of his mind, so he was glaring at Demelza. He scooped up what was left of his cards, and they promptly exploded in his hands in a puff of smoke and fire.

"Fuck." He had long-since given up trying not to swear in front of his little sister, and though the flames hadn't been hot, his eyebrows were now definitely singed. "I hated you right now, you know that, right?"

She couldn't help it, the sight of him glaring at her over the fact that she had won, and therefore he had lost was just absolutely hilarious. But it was the perfect comic timing of the deck exploding in his face that set her into a fit of giggles.

"You don't hate me," she managed as soon as she'd sobered a little. "But Diggory might hate us both if we've ruined his new baby."

Demelza's victorious giggling didn't exactly make Trystan feel any better. He didn't exactly appreciate being laughed at, especially by a little sister whose arse he used to be able to whoop soundly at Exploding Snap. Of course, that had been about a decade ago, when she was too young to be a proficient Exploding Snap player. But still. Being bested by your little sister, even at a card game, wasn't exactly the most pride-heightening of experiences.

"I do hate you right now," he corrected her, wiping at his eyebrows uselessly. He guessed that there was probably a charm to fix that, which he would worry about later. "But I'll get over it. And Diggory would get over it, too. That's what the ties that bind us do."

"I think you've had enough sulking now," Demelza informed him and tapped the cards with her wand so they'd sit dormant whilst she put them away. "If it makes you feel any better, I love you whether you win or lose," she said in a deliberately gracious manner and tried very hard to not giggle again.

She wasn't antagonistic by nature, although she did like to indulge in it every now and then - who didn't?

Trystan gave a kind of hmph of distaste. Of course Demelza was saying that now. He wondered if she'd be so forthcoming if she'd lost. Probably, actually. She was a far more gracious winner than he. It was a good think that Trystan had never joined up with the Quidditch team -- they didn't like losing, either, and encouraged violence. (Not, of course, that he ever would have considered it. The Slythering house team, in his opinion, was a sexist and corrupt institution. And a bunch of cheaters. It was embarrassing.)

"Allow me my sadness over having lost," he moped. "And I never said that I didn't have some sort of brotherly love for you. The two emotions can co-exist." A fact which he knew all-too-well.

She rolled her eyes, which was about the only thing she could do in this situation. He was such a drama queen, honestly! With an internal sigh, she uncrossed her legs and got to her feet.

"Well. You either move on to the stage of acceptance and perk up, or... You don't get any ice-cream. Which I bought for you out of sisterly-love."

It was weird how they, as a family, were able to express these things to one another - and yet they were otherwise classified as a dysfunctional unit. Demelza certainly couldn't imagine an alternate universe in which Trystan found it impossible to show or let her know he cared. Or one in which she couldn't do the same for any member of her family. And she certainly did not want such an alternate universe to come to pass as reality. Ever.

Trystan wasn't a terribly affectionate person with anyone but his family members -- it was certainly a failing of his in his relationships. But one of the traits that Nina and Carey had been sure to pass on to all of them was love for each other. Even when they were annoying little sisters who had just beaten them at Exploding Snap. Plus, it was easier to be affectionate with Demelza, because she was female, and if he had grumpily denied his brotherly love for her, she probably would have weaseled and admittance out of him, anyway.

Trystan went about cleaning up after Exploding Snap as Demelza went off to get ice cream. "I think," he said as he put the cards back in their packaging, "That the first stage of grief is denial. So I'm going to say that you won by cheating, and it really should have been me." His voice was teasing. He wasn't really that upset by having lost.

"In my humble opinion," Demelza called over her shoulder as she pulled out the ice-cream from the freezer, "you should just skip the first six steps! And I don't cheat," she asserted, just in case. "You know that."

Cheating was for the Falmouth Bloody Falcons, and she was glad she didn't try out for, and land a spot in that specific team. Although, truth be told, life with the Canons wasn't chirpy. Often, it was just awkward.
