The Metal Men second feature
People have posted from issues of the new Doom Patrol series, and it's good stuff, but so far we've all been neglecting the Metal Man second feature. That's unfortunate because it's also good stuff.

It's Giffen/DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire doing superhero humor. C'mon, there are two or three fans of that sort of thing in these parts, right?

Why you're not going to see an Ambush Bug #6

Essentially, Didio didn't like how it made fun of Final Crisis.

Meet the Power Company! Sapphire and Josiah Power Edition.
And here the last two introduction issues of Kurt Busiek's Power Company series. Started this quite some time ago but boy does school complicate real life so here I am and hopefully no one's angry I'm so slow. :D

Huntress is Awesome Week: Huntress Joins the JLA
Someone posted a line here once about Huntress that cracked me up (please claim it if it's yours) "She's so crazy, she's Batman's Batman." Crazy Huntress is an image that's she had (and at times deserved) and still has for those not overly familiar with the character. (i.e. BFTC "The Network") Here's a look at a time in the early part of Helena's career showing just how awesome, competent and uncrazy she could be. From the September 1999 issue of Justice League of America are 7 pages telling how she joined the JLA.

killer penguins: a proud JLA tradition
So, recently maslego posted a battle from Blue Beetle where Jaime and Guy fight a flock of killer penguins.

but this isn't actually the first time in the modern era where the JLA went up against these deadly swarming nightmares of the Antarctic. 11 Pages under cut )

Legion of Super-Giffen, Prologue III
But Keith Giffen left the book.

They say it was the poster that did him in.

This poster:

Ah yes. The famous compositional style, unique to 80s DC, of people randomly standing around in the air

wonder why nobody does that anymore.

Keith Giffen, I adore Keith Giffen. His career is filled with brilliant ideas that don't work. He's tried everything. Most none of it works. BUT HE DID IT!

He was "co-plotter and designer" for issues #3-#5. That probably means he did breakdowns. He was assisted by Steve Lightle, who draws great robots and weird faces. Inked by Mahlstedt, whose work here raises the eternal question,

Legion of Super-Giffen, Prologue II
First, I would like to apologize. I am absolutely humbled by the depth of Legion knowledge that I've seen on this board. Never expected that. Ya gotta admit pre-Zero Hour LSH continuity is a little obscure at this point.

So, yeah, there are people here who know their Legion.

That said, I still don't feel like exhaustively explaining every little thing in the art below -- that's a lot of typing. Giffen's LSH is the densest storytelling this side of the Silver Age.

No, I just want us to look at the pictures right now. We'll get to the themes later.

So once again I present you with the art of Keith Giffen,

Legion of Super-Giffen; Prologue 1
LSHv3#1

Welcome to the Legion of Super-Heroes. This is the real stuff, not that watered-down second/thirdhand tripe they feed you kids these days.

You're not going to understand it. Right now, it's enough to just look at it. We'll figure it out as we go along.

Pretend you're twelve years old.

The *other* time Mon-El inspired a supervillain
okay, so this one's Valor, but still.

Basically, the Great Darkness Saga isn't the only time he inadvertently gave a mind-dominating dark fellow an idea...  )
