Just FYI, WWI planes didn't have much in the way of safety features. Since they were nothing but wood construction, and self-sealing gas tanks hadn't been invented yet, a lucky shot could set you on fire. Since you don't have a parachute, that means you basically burn to death slowly.
Still, he's flying what looks to be a Fokker Dr.I (A.K.A. the Red Baron's plane), so he's relatively lucky in that his plane's radiator isn't located in close proximity to the pilot. A radiator puncture is basically getting boiled to death in your cockpit.
His biggest risk in a Dr.I is going to be his wings collapsing, if he's really engaging in the types of maneuvers drawn in this comic. Later Dr.I's were much more reliable than the first set, but the design was flawed and had very weak wings, compared to other planes at the time.
