Whoops, meant to say liked! I genuinely liked Frank Miller's work. I still love his Daredevil stuff, and Ronin is interesting at least for the art, but after that I'm not so wild about him anymore. His DKU is fascinating, but certainly not in the way he intends it, and the fact that it's non-canon is the only reason any of it works.
I've always thought the weirdest thing about the DKU is how poorly Batman Year One fits in. BYO's Bruce is driven, but he's not crazy. ASBAR's Bruce is crazy the way DK2's Bruce is crazy, which I always attributed to being the three years of isolation after DKR. ASBAR is certainly something, but I've always thought I'd be able to accept it being as ridiculous as it is if Miller drew it himself, because I really dislike Jim Lee, though his art carries some level of (exaggerated) realism. Miller's art is as ridiculous and over-the-top as his writing, so I've always thought it would be a better fit.
