Wonder Boy, the sidekick other sidekicks... wait, huh?
Towards the end of his run (and I'm talking the tail end, folks), Phil Jimenez introduced a new supporting character in Wonder Woman, a young boy pretty clearly intended to be a Wonder Boy. But much like that whole awful "unknown soldier" thing at the end of Bill Willingham's run on Robin, hints at later creators picking the character up were meant with a resounding "yeah, right." And it's not hard to see why, given that even the original creator can't do much more with the idea than "Wondy shreds, dawg!"

By the modern era, the "like X, but a girl!" thing had pretty much run its course and nowadays you can't get a Batwoman or a Supergirl off the ground without some new spin (or a whole lotta nostalgia). So, given that you already had Wonder Girl and Troia fulfilling the same function, there wasn't much reason to do "like Y, but a boy!" Plus, Diana, skateboard. If John Byrne were here, that'd earn him a depowering and a beatdown, sight unseen. But I like sharks, so here's some selected scans from the Wonder Boy that Wasn't.

Yay sharks! Screw dolphins, man, sharks are where it's at.

If you're wincing right now, then don’t be alarmed. A feeling of intense and crushing "they cannot be serious" at the concept indicates only that you are still sane.

See, now, if it weren't for the wetsuit (and, y'know, the whole Bobby's Day Out in general), the shark scene would actually have been really cool. But there's just... nothing, nothing in the world that can redeem Diana skateboarding.

You think she's more of a rollerblade girl? Street luging?

Competitive manticore stunt-riding.

Sadly, the sport didn't export to the States very well, though a bastardized version seems to have caught on in Australia.

Here I was hoping you'd say nude Greek wrestling.

(I kid! It's just the only comeback I can think of right now.)

Well she did flirt with Spider-Man during one of the DC/Marvel crossovers.

I especially like the kneepads. Punches from Darkseid are nothing compared to a harsh scrape!

She's modelling good behavior for the impressionable young boys. See, if mad cool people like Diana wear kneepads, the other skaters will too.

Well, you know, clearly she needs the wetsuit. Because her skin can withstand small arms fire, raging infernos, and insane shockwaves, but she can't be getting her hair mussed, can she?

Clearly, you have never seen a woman get out of a wetsuit. The hair-mussing with a mane like that crammed into a suit like that... I shudder to contemplate.

Probably Lansinarian technology, designed to make her hair curly while she scubas.
