Can't get away with nothing
Not the best of all days (or nights) for this vampire

Then again, the worst fate came to this next vampire will soon learn that sunshades may look cool but do not help at all when one is a being that sunlight can kill

I would like this post to be the genesis of the "can't get away with nothing" week

What exactly would a "can't get away with nothing" week consist of? What sort of situation or material?

Any situation where a plan backfires in a terrible manner or any situation when certain character seems to be hated by all the universe

I have never seen a pair of shades so dark you couldn't tell it was day.

Presumably the lenses were painted black because the guy he took them from was blind... Though I agree that it's a poor punchline.

Eh, you live the best part of your life in darkness, your eyes aren't gonna behave like a normal person's.

Every vampire story I've read that's gone into it, has them hyper-sensitive to light, since they live and work in the dark.

I would suggest that in a story like this, if it starts raising those questions, the storyteller hasn't done their job. If you have to explain the jokes in a comedy for them to work, it's ineffective comedy. It has to be immediate. Same with horror, or twist endings: it has to be immediately apparent or the shock is not effective. You have to have those holes plugged.

Reminds me of the Woody Allen short story where Dracula makes a fake dinner date with some villagers in order to feast on their blood, swoops down when it gets dark, and is greeted with "Oh, Count! Did you come early to see the Eclipse with us?". He then spends the rest of the story locked in a closet.

I know that one. Now THAT'S a great story.

Sigh. I miss that Woody Allen.

And that's why vampires, the appropriate dress code for going out in the day light is dressing up like Carmen San Diego. Just ask Dracula: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwOP3rKD99o

I love the expression of the vampire on the last panel of that second page. He's like 'wot th' HELL, man?'
It has always been a source of some mystery to me that vampires are as feared as they often seem to be, given that their weaknesses are so incredibly well-publicized. All you have to do is eat lots of garlic, keep a symbol of whatever faith you subscribe to on your person (I wonder if Pastafarianism, would qualify?), and stay within easy access of running water whenever possible. Oh, and don't go out alone after dark (which is a good policy anyway), and never invite tall, pale-skinned, pointy-toothed strangers into your home. (Oh, and if possible, live in a house with a picket fence.)
And I LIKE that the shapeshifting abilities of the vampire are being exploited properly there. That's the first time I've seen a vampire being shown as a sort of werebat, but it works.
