The unfortunate part of it is that there is a genuinely interesting story to tell, if Wolverine, pre-amnesia, was a full-on monstrously evil man. As bad as he's gotten in the time since his character was first introduced, there's always been at least some semblance of rough decency to him, of a guy who was struggling against his animalistic inner nature to do the right thing. What would happen, if you found out that, in what basically amounted to another lifetime, you were even worse than the monsters that you fight now? How do you atone for crimes that you committed when you were almost literally an entirely different person? Lots of stories ask this question, but few of them every try to answer it in earnest (and sadly, by adding the ROMULUS CONTROLLED HIM angle, this story doesn't look likely to answer it, either).
