Bring the guys!

Well, but this is not the way these characters dress.

I think it's as wrong as making a Batman or Superman statue wear leather chaps with no tights under the leather chaps, maybe.

I actually don't want to see them reduced to that any more than I want the women. At all. It would make them less heroic, to me.

I don't think it would reduce Batman or Superman too terribly much.

Didn't they make a statue of Peter cleaning MJ's undies? Turnabout's fair play.

I don't follow Spider-man. But if I ever saw a mass produced statue of Bruce or Clark in chaps or a curlicue gold waist-y thing, I would be able to comment on it.

The thing is, at some point these companies have to make money. And they've been making Submariner and Tarzan and Silver Surfer and Human Torch statues for years (which are basically what you're talking about here). And people don't buy them. They buy these.

I think we need to make peace with cheesecake and somehow figure out how to transmute it into a positive force. It's unlikely that it will go away.

Maybe if America had a national health care plan artists wouldn't feel so much economic pressure to make commercial, yet distasteful and disrespecful, work. After all, if it's a choice between cranking out a couple immature statues and walking around with a major dental issue (to pick a hypothetical example), that's not much choice.

Nah. They've had health care in Japan for years and they make *lots* of junk like this. They pioneered it.

I'm fine with the cheesecake. Show me a major male figure who gets the same treatment? I'd be finer with this particular cheesecake.

It's not the commercialism. Or the cheesecake. And if what you're saying is that it sells, why not sell it with the two top guys? No. They won't do that to Superman or Batman. Ever. Their clothes will not be stripped away for a statue, even if it'd sell.

But the biggest female hero's in the cheesecake. She's fair game.

Oh. And if he did, washing out undies is not the same as having your suit altered so that you can expose even more flesh to the masses. IMO.

it's not entirely about exposure -- I think Cassie's is worse than WW's. I dislike the chaps here because you can't even take the excuse that it "celebrates nudity and the human form." Chaps are clearly sexualizing -- they are a specific rejection of nudity.

Let me find the picture for you, it was pretty funny:

I misremembered, they did not make a statue of the second, though it would be awesome if someone did.

Huh. Where's that second one even from?

It's clearly a rebuttal. Which makes it even more interesting and wonder who did it.

If I remember correctly, the Peter picture was done by napalmnacey over on journalfen. She might have a LJ too, but I don't know if it's under the same name.

No. It's about sexualizing. You are correct.
