Yeah, as much as I don't like Liefeld's artwork or writing / scripting, that was pretty fucking mean.

Well, that was of low taste. And it doesn't make fans look good either.

You know, I'm no fan of Liefeld's work, but have nothing against him personally. I'm a lot more inclined to believe his version of events, where it was a non event, than this particular "fan", given the utter indifference on display in that youtube video five secnds after the event he was supposedly pissed off about. It's not even fan bad behaviour, just tedium.

That's what happens if someone takes the stuff that's being talked in the Internet and applies it to reality. I'm fairly sure he thinks he's a great hero among the comic fans now. Meh.

On the one hand, somewhere in the world Andrew Eldritch is crying.
On the other, yeah, Liefeld's art is shitty, but that's no reason to be a shitty person to him. This is worse than PAD's intellectual bullying over the Shatterstar thing.

I've been reading the comments, and am proud to spot, so far, Cully Hamner's name among those on the "way to be a dick, guy" side. Cheers!

Huh, I was at that Con. I didn't even know Liefeld was going to be there, but he was RIGHT THERE when we entered and I went to his booth briefly. I actually got Liefeld to sign my sketchbook. He did a little Deadpool bust without me asking him to, and that was nice. He seemed like a decent guy. Still not a fan of his art, though.

That said: dick move, Man in the Stupid Yellow Hat.

Okaaaay... I'm not a big fan of Liefeld's art, not even a small fan of it. But that was just plain immature. I can't imagine being such an ass to the man, even if I'm not fond of most of his work. I mean, seriously, who freaking *does* that? -_-U

Reading through Liefeld's tweets, that is what you call them right?, he's thankfully taking the high road and not acting like he did when he insulted Alan Moore two and a half years ago. Good for him.

mmm, pretty funny.

however, it lost a lot with the dedication. just giving him the How to Draw, sans dedication? Preserves the joke, and keeps it free of original wit complications, which would clash with something just as perfect and " How did someone not do this before " as this.

I'm not a fan of Liefield, but art rarely bothers me unless it's a story like Bloodborne which is great writing almost completely ruined by the eye-bleeding art.

I wonder how I'd react to meeting Tony Daniel. Or even Dan Didio. I'd probably stand in plain sight and glare at them ferociously until they began to look visibly discomfited, and then move on.

I LOVE how her breasts are so big that he gives them extra ribs for support. That's Liefeld for you. Internally consistent!

As to the fan thing, eh. It's too late, for one thing. The time when this would have been actually funny was ten years ago. I mean, Heroes Reborn? Does dude in the yellow hat want to be confronted about things he did thirteen years ago? When he was six?

Liefeld's such an easy target. At this point, the traditional target. I think this incident is really going to win him some support back. People are bored with complaining about him and look at him, he's still here.

That said, people at conventions are there to meet their public, and their public has an opinion based on their work, and Liefeld has inspired a lot of opinions.

There are a lot of pranks and stuff at cons. It's a media convention. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog goes to stuff like this. Come on. You go to conventions to meet people and see crazy shit and have crazy shit happen. This isn't really that far out of bounds, though I think it is too far (Putting his email address in the dedication was the exact moment when this turned from "tardy media prank" to "dickishness." That really says "I will make myself well-known by being a dick to you.")

If Liefeld didn't sell overblown, sophomoric work he probably wouldn't attract such overblown, pretentious, sophomoric hecklers. And if he didn't hang around conventions like the ghost of Lou Ferrigno...well, I'd respect him more.

This was not a personal attack, this is a professional attack...I wish I could find a good metaphor.....

It's like a restaurant, and conventions are when the "restaurant manager" or the "chef" come out from the kitchen and talk to the people there. And sometimes the people say "Your food sucks."

And Liefeld's food does suck. But his restaurant doesn't go out of business because he's giving people something they want, and he knows it. He's like McDonald's.

So this guy is the asshole who makes a big deal and starts shouting at the manager, basically. They were unpleasant, rude. Especially since they were talking about a meal served ten years ago!

But that's what happens when you work in a lousy restaurant.

I don't like Rob Liefeld's style of drawing and writing, but damn. The man always has stuck as someone really nice that has a job doing something he really enjoys.

This yellow hat was just a dick. Really.

If I might be too serious for a moment: this is the type of behavior that "fans" engage in that exemplifies some small scale insanity. It isn't relegated to comic book fans, not by a long shot. If, like Rob Liefield, a pro athlete is considered an "enemy" or a disappointment there'll always be one or two smart guys who think they can spit on him or insult him or interrupt his dinner to get some non-existent high fives.

I do think you see it a little more with comic book fans, though. There's no one reason, but a combination. The regular interaction with creators on a daily basis is one. When the message board you regularly troll has Mark Millar as a regular poster, the idea of "famous comic book writer" loses its mystique and they become just another name to insult.

The lack of social awareness that makes the "nerd" a nerd are certainly in play as well. Look at what an awkward diss this is. Who did they they'd impress? We're their target audience and I think it is safe to say that, on the whole, no one is amused.

At the end of the day, Rob Liefield is making money drawing the pictures this dude hates. This dude's biggest moment will be dropping a weak insult on Liefield. All the while he's wearing that god awful yellow hat and a trench coat out in public. I'm sure it wasn't raining that day, either. I guess it is safe to say he never really was worried about embarrassing himself int he first place.

Meh.. He did something which many fans (including more than a few members of this con) talked about doing for years. I am sorry, but I can't help but feel that this took balls. And, I admit, I was amused.

Even if the guy was entirely too pleased with himself.

Disclaimer: I don't really have a problem with Liefeld's style. It's not even remotely my cup of tea, and it's oh so easy to mock, but looking at some of his early drawings (that were posted on his website) shows that he at least understands the fundamentals and knows how to draw in proper proportions - he just chooses not to. Many of his imitators couldn't say that. I do have a problem with his writing, but that's a whole other story.

The redhead: why is her face so warped and deformed? Look at her apparent 3/4 profile, and how much you can see of the side of her face--with the eye still there--that should be 1/4.

Her face would have to have a very grotesque curve, a concave one.

The prank? Juvenile, and cruel, and I don't know if the fan knows but that was 15 years ago. The time to do it was when Liefeld actually mattered. Now it's like kicking a hobo.
