well there's morrisons three ghosts of batman story during his batman run were batman's beaten to a pulp by one of the ghost, thrown out of a window und stomped on till even his spine protection breaks(all that without landing even one hit!). last page of that issue shows batman lying bleeding in the alley, half dead while the ghost walks away. it's not the sams situation wondy is in here, but i think it's comparable, and there a lot more examples für superman and batman alike where there just beaten out of the blue without landing even one goof hit.
