Now that's the Aquagirl I know and love! About time.

Eh, doesn't resemble too much the Aquagirl I remember, but I didn't read Sword of Atlantis.

Here, she reads too much like...well, frankly, there's the whole Latino stereotype that they're pushing here. This reads like "Hot-blooded Latino". Patience snaps and that 'famous' Latino temper unleashes. The language even has that kind of tone.

The Aquagirl I remember said things like "wild". She was a San Diego girl. She seemed..adventurous, enjoying the super-hero life, exuberant and precociously stubborn. Here, we have the quietly seductive statuesque chica, homewrecker and with a beautiful temper.

Patrick Gleason did her best, art-wise.

You're not wrong, the whole saucy latino schtick they were pushing last issue is very annyoing and I wish it would just go away quietly.
I read the scenes pictured above a bit differently though. I thought Lorena was being portrayed as a seasoned heroine with a hands on approach that has neither the time nor the tolerance for childish bickering, especially if innocent lives are at stake. She's probably the most experienced and most level-headed of them all and I felt the scans posted did reflect that, with her being the voice of reason and the only one to see through the trap.

Though mostly I'm just glad she had something vaguely heroic to do, rather than being reduced to a face in a crowd scene or an extra in a rap video like previously.

I guess. I just feel that while Lorena definitely has some kick-ass experience with Aquaman, it shouldn't relegate her to being Ms. No-Nonsense. See, I'm conflicted here. It makes sense, especially since when Lorena was with Aquaman he was in an especially no-nonsense phase, which made for great exchanges. We saw she had some steel in her spine there. At the same time, by relegating her to Senior status it seems that they're ignoring her more fun-loving character. Also, I would think less yelling and more icy cold stares as befits an Aquaman-trained character.

Gleason drew her with great wonderful smiles!

Everyone looks better in a Gleason. :D
Unless they're the focus character, everyone's established characterization tends to suffer quite a bit as part of a team book. If I absolutely have to choose, I think I'd take one that aknowledges her seniority and abilities over the bizarre telenovella love interest from last issue any day.
Given the amount of undeserved ridicule characters from the Aquaman family often get, it's entirely likely that I'm just much more easy to please.
