Gotham City Sirens (sick of it yet?)
Okay! First post on SD (hi guys) and I'm sharing my fave pages of Gotham Sirens. Since I saw the preview art I had to run out and get it. As much as I generally don't buy single comics (so EXPENSIVE in the long run) I had to. I really, really, really enjoyed Gotham Sirens... and was at the same time very annoyed. Edit: I've had to delete some images, b/c of rules, so I just left the last two, which were really the only reason I wanted to post this comic in the first place. XD The Broker MADE this comic for me. I've always wondered where bad guys get their hideouts. I figured they just squatted. I think The Broker needs his own comic. Seriously. It would be the most awesome comic ever. 'Just a mild mixture'... mild mixture my ass, Ivy. You've been waiting this entire comic to mindwipe Selena. Also, love the lips here. Harley's pink ones vs. Catwoman's dark shades. And, does the Broker just KNOW Catwoman's name. Did I miss something here? I guess you can't just sign a check 'Catwoman'... I was actually just debating posting that last image and asking you all to chime in with your thoughts. I mean who IS batman? I'm the motherfucking batman.

To which the obvious answer is

"The Batman you knew is dead. I'm not sure who the new Batman is" (Both are true since she hasn't met Dick as Batman yet AFAIK)

I DO like the Broker too (I'm reminded of Baby Dolls PA in BTAS, who appeared to be a combination of secretary, gofer and ninja, and it was hard to tell which was the more uncommon skillset). I could have lived without the "All Girl Academy" line. Sell the property Broker, don't get involved in the pervery like that.

Yeah, the bit about the All Girl Academy is wandering a little too close to the 'accessory to the crime' line for me. Still, I kind of hope he reappears.

Hmmm. That IS a good answer. Neatly avoids the question.

Hiding criminals even if it's for money is a crime already. I doubt he would mind another aiding and abetting charge plus a few other things.

Selina did run into Dick-as-Batman during BftC, and recognized him, IIRC...but she also ran into Jason-Batman and, I think, Tim-Batman, so it's not like she can't honestly claim that too many people have worn the cowl since the last guy died for her to even guess as to who's really in it, now.

The art, it burns. All the girls look the same. They have the same entirely incorrect anatomy, the same vapid faces, the same expressions . . . it drives me insane. And way he draws men and women is totally inconsistent; they don't even look like they're drawn by the same person.

I could bitch about the art forever xD

Your argument IS valid though. >> I don't complain about bland though, at least it's not BAD art.

See, I wouldn't mind the art so much, but I just think March has dropped his standards a little since he did the two-part story with Denny O'Neill a couple of months back.

It isn't bad, but I still think the cheesecake has gone to his head just a touch.

Yeah... Harley's definitely the one who comes off the best art-wise, but even still........... she should be shorter. With smaller boobs.

(I know, crazy that I would want to see women LOOK different in a comic book)

And Harley in a naughty school girl outfit? Ugh. I mean yeah, she looks adorable, but I just get this vibe from her that she'd dress 50s style-ish (Dustin Nguyen gets it right in Streets of Gotham with her wearing the high-waisted jeans).

But I totally LOL at the Pervy Jervy reference and the "Has he called??!!! Oh. Well, then I'm sooooo over him." Sure, Harl... sure... :-D

All the girls look the same.

I made a post partially about that point not long after this issue first came out. (Also the fact that while the men's faces are better on THAT front, they're ill-fitting in the context of the rest of the art.)

Y'know, I almost want to see Selina try to seduce Dick like she would with Bruce--if not just for the cracks Dick would make.

"Miss Kyle, I think you're trying to seduce me!"

She tried that years ago in Nightwing's own title. She flirts and smooches, until Dick realises she's only doing it in an effort to make Bruce jealous. Not Selina's finest hour.

Given how often they've been arrested, tried, and either convicted, had cases dismissed due to evidence being fruit of the poisonous tree, or been found incompetent to stand trial and sent to Arkham, I suspect that the real names (when known) of Batman's rogues are all matters of public record. While the public may still know them by their nicknames/codenames/etc., the real names would be fairly commonly known, much like how most people know David Berkowitz better as the "Son of Sam," but would still recognize his real name.

I know that, in the DCAU, at least, Selina's real name is public knowledge, following her trial and conviction in season one of BTAS.

Aaaaaaaaah, I knew I missed something.

It makes sense that their names are public, it's just... hard to wrap your mind around. Then again, Gotham's a fucked up place. I guess no one blinks twice at the Apple Store when Harley Quinn signs a check for an Ipod.

Well, except for Joker...even HE isn't sure what his birth name is.

But, yeah, everyone else would be known. At least to cops, superheroes, bounty hunters, information brokers, and anyone else who regularly deals with the supervillains.

Eh, for a long time post-Crisis one of Selina's distinguishing markers is that she hadn't ever been caught. Bruce never successfully brought her in and no one else even had a chance of coming close. Even Bruce didn't clue to her secret ID for a very long time, and she faked her own death the first time it became public record.

I'm pretty sure I can count the number of times on one hand. (Maybe two, maybe.)

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Catwoman, in her current uniform, is supposed to wear boots with treads. It's no longer uncommon for female superheroes to wear flats: Huntress, Batwoman, Black Canary, and Cassandra Cain, for example, all wear flat, combat-style boots. Supergirl and Wonderwoman also wear flat boots.

If you were being sarcastic or facetious, then sorry for the straitlaced answer. Sometimes it's hard to tell over the internet...

XD I was partially being facetious, and partially being honest. It might not be 'uncommon' now, but in the long run women in comics are generally heels girls.

But you're right! I had forgotten about Catwoman's outfit.

Harley's shoes are actually flats, or have a SLIGHT heel. I had to go check Ivy's footwear again, since a lot of the pictures totally cover up the feet, but heels on her and Selina.

I would think that Ivy would go barefoot, what with her whole nekkid-earth-mother vibe, but maybe that just doesn't extend to footwear :P

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]kat8cha

Actually, when they were covering up her feet, I figured she MIGHT be barefoot. Because feet are insanely hard to draw, and so it would make sense to cut them out like that. (There is a ridiculous amount of panels were their feet are obscured for one reason or the other.)

Or that, you know, she'd wear flats, as she's obviously wearing something... but no, no, extremely high heels for her. I'd say they're about 3 inches of heel even. Maybe to do with her 'I twist men around my little finger' personality?

Since Gotham City Sirens is a recent comic, members may post a maximum of four pages each. Additionally, there is a limit on how many pages from a comic can be posted. As explain in the posting guidelines. If you use the tag for this title, you can see that five pages have already been posted here. As as result, you need to reduce the number of scans posted here to a maximum of two pages.
