The thought processes of comics writers are truly amazing.

Like, hey, there's this guy who's bases his crimes on old proverbs! And he's a good tinkerer!

...let's make him the embodiment of death! Hell yeah!

It was probably the whole 'Black Hand' name and desire to actually made him a relevent rogue for GL. The guy you described sounds like he should be a Flash or Bat rogue, not a GL one. Now he is ;)

Well, to be perfectly fair, most silver age DC villains were "Flash" or "Batman TV show" type villains. :P

And now that won't fly for the majority of fans/writers/stories/etc so they updated him. Besides its this or he just gets dustbined and they make a new guy for this, no this is cool recycling.

Look, I'll just say this. As much as I criticize Johns, and will continue to, it's criticism that comes from actually following him. Which is to say his work keeps me doing so, which in itself says something. I'm interested to see what he does next in the same way as back when Moore was doing mainstream work.(wow, think of it, a time when you had Alan Moore every month)

And I also like the fact that he picked up on an aspect of GL's history most have ignored: that Moore did plenty of work on GL-related material right at the same time he was reinventing SWAMP THING. The book has that, but nobody, really, till Johns USED it, and Moore left all these seeds just lying about.

And finally: I'm reading goddamn Green Lantern. That in itself says it all. Johns may not be perfect but he certainly tries harder than a lot of others. (though I like Tomasi as well--those last few issues of GLC were creepy)

I've had no problem with it; Black Hand is a great name and shouldn't be wasted on the Z-lister he once was. I've criticized Johns a LOT, but the development of William Hand has been something I've liked, and despite having decided to be done with the DCU after FC, I am still interested in seeing how this plays out.

And Mahnke's art on the new GL is great, but he always is.

More like a Captain Sinbad with a short vest only to sho off his manly pecs and abs.

Hmmm... and Djinn's live in bottles AND rings.....

the rings become sentient?

I will not stand it any longer.

DC, stop pussyfooting around and tell us: what the hell is up with Aquaman? You have Morrison bring him back in FC for NO discernible reason and NOW he's a Black Lantern? What the fuck.

They've already said what was up. Orin's dead. An alternate universe version appeared (very briefly) in FC.

Meltzer having J'onn talking to him in his last issue of JLA is just being ignored.

Yes, but WHY? What's the bloody point? Why have an alternate universe one appear? Alternate Supermen, that made sense. Where-else did we have alternates appear?

Personally, I smell a cancelled project. I think DC was planning to bring Orin back to cash in on Brave and the Bold, but Johns probably wanted to use Orin as a BL and had them push back/cancel. It's not like Aquaman has ever been a best seller. Just one of the most continually revived series in DC history.

Morrison wanted an alternative Aquaman back someway, the same way he wanted teams of Chinese and Japanese superheroes, and gave little to no ideas of how DC would actually use such a character.

Also, it's fairly clear that DC had no idea that Brave and the Bold would be the hit it was (the comic and TV wings of Warner work independently), otherwise they wouldn't have canceled Blue Beetle weeks before the show started.

Yes, but WHY? What's the bloody point?

I remember reading that editorial and Morrison were NOT on the same page throughout the lead up and completion to Final Crisis. Which is why the New Gods all died in a different series before they... died in Final Crisis.

Editorial couldn't make up its mind. Didio-dislike aside, they really should've gotten a small team of people to keep tabs on every single author working on their books during that period, just to make sure everything fit together. :(

Hmm, that doesn't make much sense as they've been inserting Aquaman into pop culture here and there, from the running ENTOURAGE joke to his appearance in SMALLVILLE, to, I believe, a recent announcement of an actual movie. Seems a waste of promotion.
