Sneaky girl... Well, it's finally been confirmed in-text (as opposed to just an interview with Jeff Parker) that the new Exiles' Blink is the same one from the old Exiles.
Blink teleported out to find food -- because this Earth's North America has been devastated by neutron bombs -- and returned to discover that her teammates had been captured by the machines now ruling North America.

I won't post the last page -- featuring what's happened to Lorna -- because it's a real doozy and I don't want to spoil the shock. What I will say is...
Since she's on the cover for #6, she's not dead, but she may be wishing she was.
Now, I didn't follow Claremont's bastardization of Exiles...was there anything in there that would account for why Blink's been hiding her past from her new team-mates?
P.S. Anyone recognize all the robots in the crowd scene on the first page? I see Awesome Andy, but I have no clue who the others are.

well i recognize Arnim Zola and HERBIE
The one next to Andy with wings and an Iron Man chestplate is the classic Super-Adaptoid.
No reason has been given yet. I assumed she and Morph decided to make their own team for some reason given he was their Timebroker but this issue and her "whoever you are" makes me question that.
Eh, remember, the bugs never really completely knew what was going on themselves. It would be incredibly awkward, but possible, for her to be referring to the machine in general (always kind of a tricksy thing) rather than Morph particularly.
No, I don't buy it either, but it's not ironclad, is all.
Let's see...aside from those already named, and the obvious Sentinels, there is a Shogun Warrior (not one of the originals, but he's an obvious reference), and M-11 (The Human Robot)...
Dunno why Arnim Zola is there, since he's not a robot. A cyborg, at best. The giant samurai robot is Red Ronin, from the old Godzilla series.

Technically he's 100% a robot; it's only his mind that is human.
I don't like him being there either, but there's no silly fleshy humans around, so I guess he decided "Oh, cool" and stuck around.
Vision and Ultron both have human brain patterns.

But they weren't born humans. ;)
but he did use the same mind-transfer stuff to switch Hitler into the body he'd be wearing the Hate-Monger outfit in, and apparently that guy's just considered a Hitler clone, so eh.

Well, I guess that it could be argued that Arnim Zola's just a robot with a dead guy's memories. *shrugs*
Hitler Clones are awesome, though.

just a robot with a dead guy's memories
The MU has a few of them; The Vision, Douglock, Jocasta.... They should form a support group.
Did Red Ronin ever appear in Shogun Warriors, so I can at least salvage some dignity of my wrong guess? <_<

We could make her scream "CLAAAAREMOOOOOOOOOOONT" instead. :p
The big guy is Red Ronon from the Avengers book.
Does this mean ol' Sage is rotting away with nothing to do? It warms my heart to think of her dying alone.
Whaddaya mean, Sage never joined the Exiles. >.> *cough*
Claremont's run is easy to render discontinuity! No continued characters except Morph, and his changes can be explained as...Morph. Just...Morph.
I don't understand. Who is this Claremont fellow? Exiles ended with issue 89 and I had to wait 2 years for the book to be re-launched.
Oh, he was a really good writer on Uncanny X-Men back in the day, but sadly, he retired in 1991 and became a sheep farmer.
I wonder how many people who hate on Claremont for only using his "favorites" on the Exiles know that he was only allowed by editorial to use characters that he'd created.
That isn't why I hate on him - that is, in fact, one thing that let me hold out hope for his run, despite thinking Claremont had passed his prime by the time he left X-Men.
It's the crap way he got rid of some of the characters he wasn't being given access to (Spider-Man, for instance...there are so many things wrong with 'Spider-Man always falls for Gwen Stacy', if it were PETER, but it was Miguel), and the dreadful writing of his pets.
Hiding her past? I was under the impression its a different Blink from a different universe. Her not knowing how to work the Tallus certainly seems to support that.
They made it unclear but hinted it was her from the start.
Or maybe even Circuit Breaker? I would think Marvel would try to put in some of their original characters from their take of the Transformers series...
Is that Growing Man in the panel after Zola? He looks a bit less yellow than usual.
The hunch-backed robot could be Quasimodo.
I knew H.E.R.B.I.E aspired to world domination.
Nice to see it's the Blink we know and love, will be interesting finding out what the charades are all about. |
