What? The Justice Society members did enlist in WW II. In one issue of ALL-STAR COMICS, they all signed up in the Army in the civilian identities (except for the Spectre, whose human self was after all dead. And Johnny Thunder joined the Navy just to be different). They had an issue of being sent overseas and sneaking out to do extra fighting in their costumed identities.

It ended with the rather weak excuse that generals were fighting over which JSA member did the most good, and Roosevelt decided that they should remain stateside to fight spies and saboteurs, not to mention the usual mad scientists and invasions from outer space. They were renamed the Justice Battalian for an issue or two, but that was quietly dropped.
