Golden Age Wonder Woman These scans are from Wonder Woman #2, published in 1942.
As usual, the bad guys have large staffs of chained-up slave girls. How can I get to be one of Wonder Woman's enemies? And the typical Marston name for the scribe: Scribla. Also note the "LieOMeter" in the background and remember that Marston invented the lie detector. Marston was one of those geniuses with a generous streak of huckster in him. I included this scan because without you knowing about the phantasms, the rest of the story will make no sense. Someone commits a crime wearing Wonder Woman's phantasm and the Amazing Amazon is arrested. Being a good citizen, she submits to arrest, confident that her innocence will be discovered. A Hawaiian dancing girl takes Wonder Woman captive, in full costume. Wonder Woman deals with the miscreant. Well, that was fast. http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000epexz http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000eqf81 http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000es0d7 http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000et4pc http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000ew5dg http://pics.livejournal.com/mosellegreen/pic/000exzpg

Favorite part- "My what is doing what?
And here we see an important gap in Amazon schooling! You don't really know a language until you know the slang.
Reminds me of that one Tex Avery cartoon - 'A Symphony in Slang'. Check it out on YouTube if you haven't seen it - it's pretty funny.
Deception seems to enjoy dressing as women. Not a very sweet transvestite though is he?
Though sadly, aside from the stupid helmet his costume is actually better than hers.
It's a nice touch that Etta actually MISSES being in her own body, roly-poly though it may be. She's really kind of inspiring that way - most girls would jump at the chance to be In Wondy's body for a while, but Etta's like 'Meh - I was happy the way I was. Where's the candy?' Also, does anyone else think that that female slave in the office there is modeled on Paula Von Gunther? I mean, the poofy red hair, the mole - they look fairly similar.
"I'll tape your mouth and your eyes"...sheesh, don't they have blindfolds? I'm not sure how effective taping someone's eyes is.
I think this might be the same issue where where the tape deal is a setup for her to worry about her beautiful, beautiful eyelashes. Because she's strong enough to untape her eyes using her fabulous eyelid muscles, but feminine vanity stops her from doing so.
Or maybe that's a different story. Maybe Marsten just really liked tape. |
