Batman would call this Proof #2681 that Gotham Is Too Much For Superman To Handle
Mark Waid's run on The Brave and the Bold was pretty, pretty crack that gave us some truly unforgettable team-ups.

In The Brave and the Bold #16, the team-up is Superman and Catwoman, and it is awesome. The story takes place in the loose continuity of "a few years ago", so you're encouraged not to nitpick at the continuity too much and just relax and enjoy the crack.

Superman was asked by Batman to look after Gotham while he was busy elsewhere. As he pays his respects to a somewhat bemused Commissioner Gordon, he hears an alarm ringing for a micro-second.

It triggers a booby-trap, and by the time Clark's stopped it, Catwoman has run away.

Clark's worried face for his boyfriend makes the page for me.

They give the necklace to enter the auction, Selina pointing out that Supes should relax, everyone being either looking at the auctioneer either at her, and then they wait. (Other items of interest being sold include a Joker card coated with deadly toxin, so you know that it's srs bznss.) And wait. And wait.

This being on purely because of Selina's expression. Yes, honey, that guy really is for real.

Of course, at the same moment as they discover the cave in question is Clayface's cave and not Batman's:

Well, what did you expect? So then Superman decides that “When in Gotham...” and grabs a “lousy punk” to dangle him several meters over the ground, eyes turning red with lasers and looking quite the part of a very pissed off Superman – and the skell refuses to talk, because Superman can only send him to jail, while if he talks his boss is going to make him dead. (Somewhere Batman is cackling.)

Anyway, Superman didn't need to question the man, since he has super hearing, so he hears the localization of the cave.

He manages to stop three guys from taking a dip into the mud and becoming new Clayfaces, and meanwhile Catwoman is trying to get some water/mud into a vial to sell it later.

And this, right there, sums up the Gotham school of team-ups.

You can imagine how much of a choice that is: is Superman going to save everyone or will he let them die?

Here is the second to last page:

Superman playing by Batman's rules is always fun.

best one: he grabs someone with info he needs, takes him up to the sky...

" So, there's a connecting flight that's about to be passing through here in a couple of minutes... "

Some of the faces here are just downright strange, Selina's reaction shot to Superman, and Superman in the "cave" page looks freakishly distorted, like the face isn't big enough for the head, making him look like a slightly warped 8 year old. And was Superman going undercover looking exactly like Clark Kent a good idea?

Wait. She's the one who dresses just in leaves?

Sometimes Superman is totally intrigued by Gotham. And a little afraid.

... and yet another reason why Superman is awesome. Even Selina becomes glompy in his presence.

I really love the way Selina's drawn here. She feels very... grounded and present somehow. Maybe it's the boots, I dunno.

Ha, that's so awesome, I love the crowd part, and the ivy reference. Poor Superman, can take on just about anybody but even Gotham is downright odd for him.

Somewhere, Batman is LAUGHING HIS ASS OFF, and he has no idea why.

It's the "I can hear you." Panel that gets me. So hilarious.

Also, of course the reveal one.

I get the distinct feeling the writer mandated Selina's position and resulting line of sight in that first page. Too funny to have been unintentional.

And hen Batman gets back he can think only two things:

A: He touched my woman.

B: Threesome!

Love the heart shaped speech bubble and Superman's huge shocked woobie eyes in the last couple of panels, but why is Catwoman so excited about a gold-plated soccer ball?

Also, NEXT TIME CATWOMAN DECIDES TO PLAY ROLE PLAYING GAMES WITH YOU, SUPERMAN, TRY A WIG OR SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Then again, there's always the chance that if he did that, Lois would get jealous, since we've seen how much she likes Clark to play kinky dress-up games.

Squee! <3! Aw, man, looks like I dropped Brave and Bold too early. This is now on my must have list.

Can I ship Clark and Selina? OT4? Love that Selina's the consummate thief who spots traps that the guy with X-ray vision stumbles into. I like Selina the sneaky, lying, double-crossing, fast-talking, sticky-fingered ... and just letting her go anyway, 'cause she's just on this side of the line. Hee, Clark gives criminals loot with an expiration date... Whee! Selina drops Pam's name - more proof that Gotham Girls stick together. More Clark & Selina, off to Metropolis! Bruce & Lois next!

I wonder if Clark's in trouble with the King of Atlantis for filching stuff from his domain. Assuming he's not dead at this point, I guess.

Overall awesome, but I'm calling BS on "Bruce could put you away WHENEVER HE WANTS!". No, he couldn't. She's Catwoman, she's every inch his equal.

Oh my god, there's no way in which this story is not freakishly adorable. There definitely can never be enough of Selina being inappropriately handsy in the world. And Clark should really make that pouty face more often.

hey! you left out the best part -- Catwoman dressing him up in the dept store.

this is what i read in between the lines:
"really, truly no" - he just wants to be rid of her
"wait, she's the one who dresses just in leaves" - he's momentarily tempted
"no, take the win. go" - he remembers he's still married

The auction scene is frankly brilliant, and it highlights something very important about Superman as opposed to Batman.

If you find out that Batman has infiltrated your meeting, then you have a chance. Because no matter how tough he is, there's always that slim chance that someone might - just might - get lucky. With Superman? No. Fucking. Chance.

For a criminal, Superman is more terrifying then Batman can ever dream.

Does this mean Selina'll be able to deduce Supes' identity now? I mean, she knows who Batman is, and I'm sure she's seen Clark and Bruce hanging out in their civvies at least once.

This is some great 'Odd Couple'-type stuff here. Superman is just such a nice guy, even when he's trying to be fierce, and Selina is so very deliciously devilish here, when she's not madly crushing on him, that is... Am I the only one who wants to see these two as roommates now?

Someone impervious saying 'it tickles' never gets old.

Also, EVERYONE wants Superman. Who can resist his Super Pheremones?
