A whole horde of perfect Logurt moments. I know the week is over, but I was away while it happened! It's not fair! So, here's a little celebration of a friendship Marvel doesn't give a damn about these days:

Awww.... aren't they cute together (and there's a sentence I never thought I'd type involving Logan)
That is such great stuff, top to bottom. And I'd never seen the Marvel Presents! Gene Colan drawing Logan and Kurt -- yeah!
Well, he created one of those guys, and defined the other one's look. It should be a "yeah!"
Gene Colan?? Really?? I thought Cockrum alone was responsible for their design?
You're completely right. I got them conflated somehow in my head!

Hey, look, a Christian not presented as a Bible-thumping fundie. That makes a nice change.
Chuck Austen wants to have words with you.
You are so right, Marvel has completely forgotten about this friendship.
Thanks for this post, it made my very bad day a better one, just to see how much these guys care about each other.
You're welcome! Someday, Marvel will discover the value of these two and there will be a one-shot/mini/ongoing just about them. Or so I dream.
It makes me so, so sad that Land and Dodson took over for Mike Choi. His art is incredible!
What matters is what I can see, hear, smell, taste, touch-- Four out of five! You know, 'cause Logan has that super-sniffer, so that's number four. The fifth comes later... No, silly -- Beer, of course! All that matters to Logan is Kurt and beer. XD
Y'know, in OUR world, the 'see, hear, smell, touch, taste' thing would make Logan a strict rationalist, but in the MU - well, one has to wonder. I mean, the MU has THOR. He's a god, a bona fide deity. He's not the only one, either - the MU is crawling with gods, demigods, spirits, ghosts, vampires, demons... And given that Wolverine has had, to say the least, quite a bit of a career, he's pretty much seen them all. Hell, he's run into LEPRECHAUNS, for cryin' out loud. So just how far does strict rationalism go, when you CAN see, hear, smell, touch, taste the fantastic on a more or less regular basis?
Busiek (of course) gives a good answer to this in an early issue of Astro City. The answer is, strict rationalism is even more important in a world where the fantastic is an every day occurance.
Further, Thor is basically an alien in the MU. Believing in him is not the same as believing in a deity who doesn't directly and obviously intervene in human affairs.
True enough. Let's put it another way - Logan has been to at least one version of Hell (he may also have visited Hel, the Norse version, but I'm not sure of that). He has also, I'm fairly certain, visited Valhalla once or twice, which, for a warrior like him, is definitely a form of heaven. So how does effect his religious views? I mean, the central issue of religion is not so much God (or gods, or goddesses), it's the afterlife. Your average religious person has never seen the afterlife, but he believes in it - he has faith, and he sustains himself through the strength of his beliefs. An agnostic, on the other hand, neither believes nor disbelieves - his tenet is 'wait and see' - and a strict rationalist goes further than that and just flat-out denies that there is such a thing. So where does that put Logan? In terms of deities, he's obviously someone who believes in relying on himself, not outside forces that he can't quantify - but in terms of an afterlife, he's SEEN it. This must by definition put him somewhere past an agnostic - 'wait and see' only applies until you HAVE seen it - but he's not a religious man, either. I'd like to think that there's a part of his mind that's gone 'ahh - I can rest easy now. I'll be drinkin' a brew with the boys in Valhalla when my time comes'.
I think it is more that there is more hope and mystery for him - he has, by experience, seen it all. He's not anymore believing in an idealized afterlife, only in one that will be.
Hey, if I ever get to that point, I will be a happy, happy guy. That's about as much as you can hope for, really.

MOAR Logurt pleez!!!
I shall see what I can do!
You say friendship but you present it with a slash style "title." I was scared to look.
LOL, I use "Logurt" when referring to the pairing, whether in friendship or slash context. Maybe because I enjoy them equally much either way and sometimes the lines kind of blur.
I love Kurt's and Logan's conversation at the bar after Logan takes the cult apart. It's very powerful for both characters.
I totally agree. It was nice to see them both handled intelligently for a change. If only we could get that more often. |
