That may HAVE been true, but I think it's reversed itself in recent years. During the Bush era, at the height of the Iraq situation, there were no end of really dark, depressing films about terrorism and war and so forth. That's one of the reasons why 'Dark Knight' was as successful as it was - it addressed issues regarding terrorism and society. Now, I'll grant you that the Iraq war is not technically OVER yet, but the administration that started it is, and its far from the all-encompassing issue that it once was - and ever since Obama got into office, it seems that we've largely stuck to lighter stuff. I haven't seen much in the way of horror in the last little while.
