Trinity #40
Hey, so let's talk Trinity.

Krona awakens in the aether somewhere.

I would like to go on record as saying this art is amazing. I like McDaniel well enough to begin with; add in the bright, cosmic color scheme and the page becomes just stunning.

Anyway, Krona sees the spiral of creatures like himself, estimates there's about fifty of 'em (really? Still? Can't we just have the Multiverse back? It works much better), and then realizes he's being watched. Apparently by himself.

I've said this before, but while I don't care much for Trinity as a story about the actual, y'know, trinity, I like it quite a bit as a sequel to JLA/Avengers. One of the things that's been nibbling at me, though, is this very thing - why is Krona doing this, when at the end of that story, he got what he wanted? I am so very, very happy to see that addressed like this.

Also, Krona being the Eternity/Kismet of the Eggverse is really cool.

Can't we just have the Multiverse back?

IIRC Trinity is set pre-Final Crisis, so 52 would be right at that point in time, no?

Yes? No? Maybe? I have no idea. Now that you poke at it, I realize I didn't really phrase my complaint accurately anyway. One of the things I've liked about Trinity is how completely outside the rest of continuity it's been - totally untouched by Crossoveritis in a time when said disease has persistently and pervasively distorted the entire rest of the DCU. It has a certain timelessness to it, for the most part. Stuff that breaks that and ties the story too closely to one of the BIG UNIVERSE-CHANGING CROSSOVERS or even to current events, like dropping in a 52 reference, diminishes that enjoyment for me. (This is also part of why the Tresser thing has been sticking in my craw so much, I think - not just because it's him, but because everything about him is so very temporary and hurts that sense of timelessness a great deal).

. . . Maybe it actually occurs sort of in-between Final Crisis, during the timefuck?

Maybe it's just me,
but I totally couldn't get into the rest of that sequence after the line
"I AM YOU AS YOU ARE ME"
because after that I got the song "I Am The Walrus" stuck in my head.
...as you are we and we are all together......

Yeah, I pretty much had the same thing running through my head. It doesn't really scan:

"I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together."

But still.

McDaniel's art (especially on faces) finally didn't bug the ever-loving shit out of me! Maybe it was because of the abstractness of cosmic beings?

Anyway, Krona sees the spiral of creatures like himself, estimates there's about fifty of 'em (really? Still? Can't we just have the Multiverse back? It works much better)

Krona does estimate there are "more" than 50.

Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; too bad the artist didn't draw 52, that I would have been impressed with, regardless of whether the 52 works better than the Multiverse.

"One of the things that's been nibbling at me, though, is this very thing - why is Krona doing this, when at the end of that story, he got what he wanted?"

There come for some a point when the journey itself becomes more important than where one is journeying to. Therefore, once the goal is reached, you think "now what", reject what you have, and rather than find a new goal act like you haven't found it yet and go back to looking.

Don't worry, that's about as deep as I get. :)

Show Krona an "impassible" barrier or limit and he becomes obsessed with breaking it. Just because.
