Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:char: battle pope, char: god, char: jesus, title: battle pope

A note about tags.
I asked Rabican about the 'character:' tag recently.  I told her that we were starting to see tags get cut off at the end because people were running out of letters in the tag itself, and asked if it could be shortened.  She agreed, and right now they're all being trimmed down to 'char:'.

A couple specific tag-related things to add.  Some character's names are shared between publishers (ares and Hercules are good examples).  Going to be addding /dc, /marvel, etc... to the end of those names where appropriate.

One last thing to add.  One of our favorite in-jokes, Batdickery, has a tendency to come in alot of flavors.  Irondickery, Superdickery, Spiderdickery, etc.  I'd like to change all of them into Herodickery, if that's ok with our Galactic Overlords.

For legality, some Battle Pope scans.  I'm not going to make a habit of reposting alot of old S_D 1.0 material, but I needed to get this info out in the open and that's the only stuff I have available.

I have never seen this before, but I must go find it now. The belt buckle "POPE" for some reason entices me like a siren's song.

I think Battle Pope was another of those comics I only bought thanks to SD. Lovely series.

Also, the existing tags will probably have to be manually renamed to fit the new "char:" standard. Only admins and mods can do this, unless you want to go and fix all the instances already on file. :p

I need to re-read Battle Pope.

Thankfully, I talked my librarian into getting the trades. *grin*

I hate the new tag system.

I don't loathe it, but I don't think it works. Plus, color me petty with obvious priorities, but "wonder woman/diana prince" really irks me. Surely, "wonder woman/diana of themyscira", I mean come on now.

Yeah, I fail to see what was wrong with the old system. Don't fix what ain't broken, I say.

Makes it easier to look something up by the tags. A little clunky, but the old system was a disorganized mess that had a tendency to reproduce like tribbles.

Agreed. Tagging isn't about prettiness, it's about being able to find stuff later. Also, some of the prettiness is because of tag limitations of Live Dead To Me Unreliable Journal (where we can no longer find anything at all), and this new place uses essentially the same software base.

Experimenting early is easier than cleaning up later, given the volume and diversity of posts.

Think of arriving on scans_daily 1.0 and seeing a post featuring an author or penciller or character you've never experienced before, but who catches your attention in that one post captivates you so much you want to find out MOAR. Good tagging at scans_daily 1.0 was easier, faster, and generally more useful than wikipedia or google. Bad tagging was frustrating.

Finally, tags like nsfw (nudity, porn, gay, ...) were not just warnings for people in some contexts or mindsets, they were ways of finding the good stuff for people in diametrically opposite contexts or mindsets. Warnings can be restated before the cut; stuff before the cut is less than very searchable. :-(

I am also not a fan of the new convoluted tag system.

Thanks again for agreeing to manage the tags! And I will get to making a post about it as soon as I hear from Support (hopefully) and can round up all the tag-related issues in one post.

If we're going to have tags like "Catwoman I/Selina Kyle" and "Catwoman II/Holly Robinson," despite the fact that Holly was only Catwoman for a short period of time, then we should change Spidey's tags from "Spider-Man/Peter Parker" to "Spider-Man I/Peter Parker."

I mean, Ben Reilly was Spider-Man for longer than Holly was Catwoman.

Sorry I didn't reply to this right off, haven't been around online much the last dew days.

I'm not familiar with Holly Madison. Did she ever have her own identity, like Ben Riley had with Scarlet Spider, or as that her only claim to fame? That's why I wanted to leave SPider Man (and Batman for that matter) alone because the people that stepped up for them wern't in those positions long, and had their own identity (Azrael and SS) that they were more associated with after.

Holly was around long before she became Catwoman.

"Never make fun of a man's genitals" pretty much sums up my response to most Watchmen reviewers.

This is truly awesome crack.
