Comes out today.

From Spoiler/Preview on IGN here.

Oh my.

Also, it's possible that we need to update a couple of character tags...

I like Dick's sarcasm here.

Yeah...

I do think he's supposed to go with 'Robin' while they're in the masks, but yes.

Oh Frank (that is Quietly, yes?). Your people are so ugly, but that missile sound effect is AWESOME.

It's Quitely. I think Dick looks pretty awesome, though, too.

I like this image... I'm not sure that there's actually a word for "a sound effect which LOOKS like the WORD of the onomatapoeia it's representing"

Morrison to IGN, 11 March: "I've asked him [Quitely] to re-introduce the much-maligned sound effects to superhero comics but in a way that integrates them more closely with the art."

Morrison to CBR, 19 March: "And he’s [Quitely's] producing things like sound effects, because nobody does sound effects anymore. Everybody has given up on them, so what we’ve done is incorporate them into the artwork. When someone hits water, the water rises up and makes the ‘splash’ effect. It just looks fantastic."

While I only gave this issue a skim, and what I read didn't catch me, I do love this kind of touch. It's rather Eisner/SPIRIT-like.

I wonder if Dick finds it irritating to have Damien always referring to Batman as his father like that. Y'know, since Dick and Bruce have sort of struggled in the past with their roles as father and son and how it took so long for Bruce to formally adopt him.

Of course, Dick is a mature and understanding individual so he's not likely to blame Damien, but still, to me it always comes off as obnoxious the way Damien says it, like he's bragging.

I know.

And my immediate thought was Damian meant Ra's.
Took me a minute. It's possible that I am in denial?

Oh, but I don't worry about how long it took for the formal adoption. I just think of that as a... you know, formality. They'd been father and son for a long, long time.

I guess that's the way he was created to be, an obnoxious, arrogant, spoiled brat who gets on everyone's nerves, so that it will bounce off with Dick's calm, cool ,mature and level headed-ness. Kind of putting a spin in the Batman-Robin dynamic.

Note that the move to adopt Dick didn't come at Dick's request, it was initiated by Bruce because HE felt he needed to reaffirm his position in Dick's life. Dick would presumably have been happy to continue as he was, since he viewed Bruce as a second father anyway.

Yeah, I figure Dick just takes it in stride. He probably chalks it up to Damian's immaturity/insecurity. I almost think he'd be more inclined to find it a little sad that Damian has to keep reminding him who his father is, kind of like 'You know, you don't always have to be defined by who your parents are (or aren't). It is possible to be your own person...brat'
