One Shortpacked! Strip

Now it's going to bug me until I can figure out when/where it was shown that Megatron does when he wakes up in the morning...

He does it in the Bay movie.

I thought Megatron had excellent over-the-top villain dialogue.

He did, didn't he? Loved it when he's chasing Sam around and yells, "I smell you, boy!"

My favorite though was still just when Optimus shows up and is all like, "Megatron!" and Megatron is like, "Priiiiiiiiiime!!!" lol.

My personal favorite was "Then join them in extinction!"

I love how he's talking to Prime during the fight. He's bigger, stronger and probably going to win but he still HAS to convince or get Prime to admit that he's right. It's an example of the perfect protagonist/antagonist relationship.

Pah! He got what... four of five lines? In the whole darn movie? Beast Wars or Transformers Animated Megatron got that much in before a commercial break and still had time to be sarcastic to Quickstrike.

God I wish there could've been more Beast Wars. (Yes, Beast Machines was good too, but it didn't have Dinobot.)

In terms in insane genius and magnificent sarcasm, BW Megatron is tough to beat; "When expecting a bobby trap, always send a boob in first"

Transformers Animated isn't as witty, but IS a Magnificent Bastard, with his wonderful approach to dealing with the treachery of Starscream. As opposed to G1's Megatron "I shall keep him around.. just in case the plot requires that he betray me again", TA Megatron's response was to blow his head off IMMEDIATELY he had a chance... and when that didn't kill him... he shot him again... and then had a standing order for all Decepticons to shoot him on sight. It was incredibly refreshing.

someone back in s_d classic posted a panel of Megatron talking about his choice of bringing back Starscream. if memory serves, it was something like this:

"why did I bring back the Decepticon with the longest history of betraying me at every opportunity? because I'm an idiot, that's why."

Is there more Megatron in the last season, then? I haven't seen that yet but what I have seen of Animated has left me reeeally disappointed with how little Megatron there's been. He just has no panache so far! And just does basically nothing all the time! Or so it seems to me.

Oh he gets to do a LOT more in Season 3, since he's now the returned and active leader of the Decepticons. They take him out of the equation for a few episodes (otherwise they really would have won) but when he comes back he's in top form; cunning, malevolent, clever and brutal

Hurray!

I've been holding off from watching, because Sari kind of makes me cringe, but I cannot say no to some good old maniacal megatron.

SO I HAVE HEARD. About Sari. I shall reserve judgement I think.

What question is that? :O
Though I confess I skipped Beast Wars and went straight in at Beast Machines (which is why I never speak up and say I LIKED IT when the dissing starts (and it always starts..)).

Not sure I should say about the question, it's sort of a spoiler.

And you really should make the time to watch Beast Wars, it repays you for it, and has probably THE best Transformers episode of all time in "Code of Honour"

Yes, completely, and don't let the odd animation designs throw you, it's been enormous fun as well as a lot smarter than you might expect. It is to Gen 1 what Brave and the Bold is to the 1970's Batman cartoon.

It knows it's audience very well, and there are nods to the old shows and toys aplenty (Cameos be everyone from Spike and family, to never released Japanese Gen 1 characters) but it has it's own story, it's own feeling, and by going down the road of Beast Wars and focussing on a small cast of characters, it's actually character driven a lot of the time.

Try it, if you're a TF fan I can pretty much guarantee you'll find something to like in it.

I went down the autgraph line at a Botcon about 12 years ago, and the great thing about doing that with voice actors is that, since I have a very noticeable Scottish accent (Well, noticeable in California) they were all trying out their Scottish accents on me. Scott McNeil, Susan Blu, David Kaye.... by the time I got to the end of the line it was like a clan gathering... Surreal, but brilliant.

I'm a fan of Susan Blu from way back, and have a weakness for the feminine form of the Anglo-Gaelic accent. I don't think I'd be able to handle both at once.

Yup, she was lovely, and does have a wonderfully smoky, sexy voice - Stormer from Jem <3 (She did sort of spoil it by noting that her favourite voice to perform was Granny Smurf... which wasn't quite as sexy.

I was also helped immeasurably in impressing the locals (and visitors) by the fact that for some reason, probably a throat bug or something I caught on the flight over, my voice dropped almost an octave for three or four days, so I went from tenor to bass overnight. It didn't hurt or anything, but I was now not only "the Scottish guy", I was "the Scottish guy with a voice like Sean Connery"

Other memorable moments included Garry Chalk, in his Optimus Primal voice, serenading us with "Feelings" whilst waiting for a room to quieten down, and a hysterical script reading session!

Ah, BotCon... good times... :)

I'm not surprised - they probably wanted to show off. A Scottish accent is a really fiendishly difficult thing to get right, assuming you A: are not Scottish yourself, and B: have little opportunity to do research.
I know this because a few years ago I was taking voice acting classes, and for some reason, I decided to try out a Scottish accent on this script that I was assigned to do. Well, first off, it turned out to be the absolute worst choice possible for the role (there was a note on the script that I didn't see which read something like 'should sound like Adam West'), and secondly, I discovered that I SUCK at doing a Scottish accent. Nobody could figure out what the hell I was trying to do - I got guesses that ranged from French to Eastern European. When the teacher asked me if I'd learned anything from this, I said "Yeah. When in doubt, don't do Scottish." (Not what she wanted to hear, by the way.) So the moral of this story is that A: my accents suck, and therefore B: anyone who IS good at them should be damn proud of themselves, and flaunt their skills whenever they can.

"I'm Batman" tends to be more of an explanation for something, or just something Batman has to say every five minutes.

Either that, or one that whispered 'psst - it's your cue!' at me in a frantic directorial voice. I have enough of the actor in me that I think my subconscious might snap into action if something like that woke me up. (Either that, or I'd get stage fright, of course.)
