And the trailer,

I think that it looks good. :)

EDIT: Ok, maybe I should explain so I don't have to repeat myself.

The film does have action in it, but it's only using the things that are referenced in the books.

This is only the trailer, so they have to focus on the more visually exciting pieces of the film to attract viewers.

Also regarding the hat, the stereotypical clothing worn by Holmes, deerstalker etc. are normally clothes worn by people who were out in the country. So him wearing widebrimmed hats and that are possibly what he was intended to wear, the illustrators possibly just wanted him to look more distinctive/ copied the design from a story with a rural setting.

In semi-related news, Keanu Reeves is set to play Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,

Downey is a competant actor who has shown in films such as Chaplin that he can do an English accent, yell about this instead if you want to yell about miscasting.

Because in many of the interviews, Guy and Bobby make a point to talk about how Sherlock goes to the fight club to get over Watson's marriage thing.

lol.

Is it terrible of me to want to see Holmes strung out and slung over his couch pillows, wreathed in smoke, utterly useless and depressed?

That sort of happened in the film that the BBC made a few year ago, called 'Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking'. Had Rupert Everett as Holmes.

He was bored and depressed in between cases so he spent a lot of time in Chinatown getting wasted on opium, and getting criticism from Watson because he wasn't eating enough.

Everett can be a bit naff, but the Watson was great in that one. It borrowed heavily from "Sign of the Four" for the marraige, much like this one.

I saw a fantastic Holmes once who got into such a terrible mood that he'd just sit in the doorway and gaze mournfully at Mrs Hudson without moving, like a dog with a broken leg. The fact that the actor suffered from bipolar disorder in real life made it seem even more tragic.

Agreed on the best Watson in a long time in that. Everett made little impression though.
