Request: Lois (being awesome) and Superman
The Man of Steel is a mini-series that was published in 1986. It showcases important events/encounters in Superman's life.

The second issue is devoted to the awesome of Lois Lane.

When the story begins, Lois has already coined Superman's name after he rescued a plane from crashing, and she's hounding him for an interview. Said hounding includes blowing Lex off because she's in a major hurry and he can always catch up with her later, and then making an acquaintance working at LexCorp take her in a LexCorp chopper to be able to follow Supes. She doesn't manage to catch him, though.

Another thing about this Lois; she has awesome clothes.

Superman is flying over town and congratulating himself on crime having quieted down, when he hears a shout of “Heeeelp”.

[Superman thinks to himself that Lois Lane is quite a woman, and quite a reporter indeed, to have taken such risks to interview him. Then Clark Kent goes to his appointment with Perry White.]

It's good to see that even with the revamp, Superdickery managed to live on in that last panel.

Hee hee. I liked Lois's "COME BACK HERE!!!" and her stunned "Oh shit" look after he turned around and answered.

I will always love this story for what it established about these two. Lois is confident and intelligent and Clark isn't a push-over. Byrne could have made their characters just like the Silver Age ones, but he didn't. I know a lot of people practically worship Birthright, but this is the Superman origin for me.

For some reason throwing yourself out of a building seems more romantic. And it doesn't waste a car.

I love this so much, and I love the fact that in 52 Clark takes a tip from his wife and throws himself from a building to get Supernova's attention (And then ironically Lois yells at him because it was dangerous).

Oh and I think Lois' fashion sense is interesting, especially the trenchcoat and fedora! I would really buy a comic called Lois Lane: Investigative Reporter.

I was just about to post that Lois Lane is the best-dressed chick in any era. Faboo wardrobe, and yet not afraid to get down and dirty (or in this case, soaked through).

Oh yeah, she's all noir detective there. It's incredibly hot.

Byrne did some bad things in postcrisis. He made Krypton a 1980s dystopia. He tried to give Superman's powers logical explanations.

But he wrote a humanity into Clark that was only equaled by Elliot S! Maggin, and he gave us Ma and Pa Kent as living people. And for that alone, I think him.

That he pulled Clark and Lois out of their 1960s hide and go stupid dickery... that's a miracle.

He also gave us the Kryptonian ruffled sleeve look. Does that go in the plus or the minus column?

Is there a I Am Not Making This Up option?

I always figured that got a pass because it was the 80s.

He made Krypton a 1980s dystopia.

That seemed to be a progression from the Superman movie, minus the "crystal-based technology" aspect. Also, Byrne wanted Superman to be "born" on American soil, and Lara getting sent to earth, giving birth in front of the Kents, and dying of Kryptonite poisoning was too different to the established origin.

Digging this art. Lois looks casual-chic and I love the killer bob.

We did some speculating on the old board about the "I know where everyone lives" panel.

Someone said Superman thought to himself "Uh-oh. She'll think I'm a stalker or someone she knows!"

Another explanation: Superman memorized both the Metropolis Phone Book and a few maps of the city.

Huh. Looks like I'm totally alone in this, but I don't like either one of them here. At all.

This is great. Lois' "COME BACK HERE!" made this issue for me.
