Why not? If no one is planning on using her, this is perhaps the best thing theyc oudl have done, since you're not left wondering "whatever happened to?"

At least they didn't kill her, and she can be repowered and brought back anytime they want.

Why not?

Why not make Max Lord a cackling machiavellian supervillian? Why not make Batman a psychotic misanthrope? Why not make Hawk Monarch? Why not make Wonder Woman a white-catsuit-clad superspy?

The problem with that as an argument is that it's so easily countered;

Why not make Blue Beetle a Mexican kid who's honest with his parents?
Why not make Superman born on Earth from a birthing matrix?
Why not remake all our heroes as if they were born on a different world. We'll start with The Flash
Why not make a team made up of half a dozen supervillains and have wacky psychopathic adventures?

I might not agree with the choices in the examples you cite, but I won't gainsay an writers right to make that choice.

I have more of a problem with her being traumatized like that than I do having her be depowered.

Giffen also wrote her very OOC.

I can't say I know the character too well, but ANY dabbling with the forces of Hell rarely ends well for mortals, and at least she's still breathing.

Well, in fairness, Giffen wrote everybody out of character. Arrogant, secretive spy-for-whoever Zauriel and the disaffected, bickering Shadowpact weren't really any more on than certified moron supervillian Alice. Zee was the only player in the whole thing that seemed even close to on-character, and even she wasn't exactly being herself.

If you can't be sure what your artist will do, never use the fashion police line.

So, they're dealing with Lobo, despite knowing that it's a very bad idea, because he has a code of honor and will not breach the contract? Yet, as Blaze herself remarks, betrayal is in their nature.

Yeah, that's not going to come back to bite anyone in the rear end. Surely.

I think their logic is, as long as they keep him happy he'll have no reason to betray them.

Yeah, but since betrayal is a habit to them... well, a contract can be broken by either party. And we know how Lobo reacts if someone defaults on a contract, don't we?

It makes no sense. Black Alice has stolen THE SPECTRE'S power before. If that won't make her go insane I don't believe for a second that Satannus would.

Hunh. So she went from being a Mary Sue who could become all powerful by stealing powers to Mary Sue version of Rogue who can kiss boys. This character doesn't so much increase in levels of suckage as she changes suck states.

Ya know, I'd like to read comics where non-villainous characters aren't constantly assreamed for our supposed entertainment.

Makes me want to give her a fun moment in Supernatural Taisen (Shameless plug! SHAMELESS!). Because if comics need one thing it's a study guide from Super Robot Wars.

Oh Giffen, what am I to do with you?

I love Ambush Bug and everything he did with the JLI, Legion and L.E.G.I.O.N. But man, I can't stand this series -- or his Wildstorm/DCU crossover, for that matter. I don't know if it's that he badly needs a co-author/scripter or is just wildly inconsistent.

"The fish stinks from the head"?? Uh, what the hell? Who talks like that? Or at least, who talks like that who doesn't have first hand knowledge of the depression?

I don't know what's worse: Black Alice being put on a bus, or Judeo-Christian characters getting Lovecraftian Mindscrew Upgrades.

The idea that there is more to heaven and hell than humans are capable of perceiving within their limited frame of referece is actually a very old part of Judeo-Christianity.
