Edwin Jarvis answers continuity questions
In this short Avengers back-up story, Edwin Jarvis explains some of the more confusing bits of continuity in the team's history. If you've ever wondered whatever happened to the "teen Tony" Iron Man, this sorts that out.

Is Ian Churchill's art always like this? The degree to which the characters' body language and facial expressions don't sync up with what's going on is startling.

I know what you mean -- it reminds me of Liefeld by way of Wozniak.

Cute concept, though I didn't find the Teen Iron Man story too interesting. The court martial was nice. Liked the bit with the Falcon.

Agreed. Very Liefeld-ish. The details (and hoo boy are there a lot of details) are more important than the storytelling.

Dear Heavens... ...Am I the only one taking Tony's "I Built the Gun" line as a dark omen to his actions during Civil War?

Ahhh, the Crossing. Good lord, what a terrible terrible storyline.

I started reading the Avengers during the Harras/Epting/Palmer run. I absolutely love this run, and not just because of rose-colored nostalgia goggles. I think it was a solid, entertaining run. Operation: Galactic Storm was a fun crossover, with the kind of genuine moral dilemma that Civil War and other recent titles just casually brush off.

That being said, with the replacement of this creative team, the book quickly descended into 90's crossover Image-ripoff mediocrity. The Crossing was the ultimate expression of this, a storyline so incomprehensible and disrespectful it just reeked of 90's sensationalism.

That being said, the "Teen Tony" run was at least an entertaining concept, although I believe Busiek was firmly in the right by undoing it.

Although, to be horribly iconoclastic, I really did like the "bug" Wasp. You may commence flaming now.

I hated how it was done, and how it was used by most subsequent authors to treat it, but I loved the basic concept of it and the essentials of the design (even if it was also plagued by 90's cliches).

It had potential.

Tony beats himself up for this, but quietly forgets "Armor Wars", when we found out that it was his lack of protection on his computers which allowed a couple of dozen villains to be designed and equipped on tech from his designs.

Tony Stark has a conscience. It doesn't matter who stole his plans and what-not. What matters is he should have had the information under a better lock and key so even Kitty Pryde couldn't get them.

Of course, Tony is also an optimist. The current Iron Man writers explain that's why Tony hasn't thrown himself into an active volcano to stop Norman Osborn from getting all the Initiative info (including the secret IDs of many heroes, but probably not Spider-Man) out of Tony's head. He really thinks there is a way out of this, even if he doesn't know what it is yet.

Spymaster's name is way too subtle. It should have more to do with what he does.
