Context is for the Weak: Lois Lane #111

Public Service Announcement: Rape is never a joke. It is a violent crime and certainly not funny.

..........But a comic page that looks like it's implying rape from a cracky story in Lois Lane #111 can be freakin' hilarious.

The Superman Wedding Album
I saw this on an LJ comm and, since I don't want to draw them into recent troubles, I'll cough and look away whenever someone asks me who scanned them. Anyway, enjoy some nice team-up moments with Clark and Bruce talking about marriage to Lois... IN THE 90s!

The History of Jason Todd: Origins (Part 1)
So, with The Old Place gone, so went with it my History of Jason Todd. Well, after much debating I decided to repost it, with up-to-date info.

I still feel that Jason is one of the most polarizing characters in the DCU, from his shift from pre to post-Crisis, his 900 number death, and his return and (mis)use in Countdown... you either love him, hate him, or don't see what the fuss is about.

So, here is Part 1 of my "History of Jason Todd series," giving a quick pre-Crisis background and the post-Crisis origin.

Thought this might be of interest to the membership...
Normally, I would never post something like this, but it's such a rare opportunity I hope the Mod's will understand. (I'm not on commission or anything I swear!)

Jason Todd in "Batman/Demon"
For those interested, I've recently published a zine, Boy and Girl Wonders: Robin in Cultural Context. Any earnings made by me from this are being donated to charities which help children in crisis. If you've ever been interested to know what existing myths were tapped into by Robin's creation, or how later media has been shaped by Robin's impact, this'll be just your cup of tea.

Speaking of Robins, here's a scene from the one-shot story "Batman/Demon", in which Batman has to venture into hell for something or other, and meets a familiar face on the way.

What Holly thinks of the WW relaunch
I got this for 50 cents in Winnipeg, and all I could think of when I read this was "Holy crap. Brubaker is psychic."

THE FAB FOUR GOES FOUR COLOR

Following is a sequence that you may not remember from the film YELLOW SUBMARINE.
Can't say with any certainty where this originated, either.
Dell/GoldKey (actually Western Studios) their primary goal was to get the licensing rights.
So this could have come from an early draft of the script, or from preliminary storyboards, or the staff could've been given a one page summary of the film and then been left alone to get the comic out by the deadline.*
Whatever the situation was, it's still an enjoyable interlude to read, and they didn't do so bad a job of mimicking Peter Max's art.

*It was not unusual for them to release TV or Movie adaptions without ever actually watching the source material first.
