All's Well That Ends Well

In a two-for-one pack, some pages from the wrap-up of Mighty Avengers #23, the end of the first arc, and Captain America #48, in which, rarity of rarities, there is a scene in daylight.

First, in Mighty Avengers, they win, but at the cost of Vision II's record library ("Even Daughtry?"  "Especially Daughtry.")

Go...team?

I've been a bit ambivalent about this book so far, but that was well-done.

Over in Cap, again (shocker) the heroes win, in an unusually tidy fashion for this book; Brubaker's clearly just doing a little self-contained story to explore character dynamics outside of the main narrative thrust.

"Wow, Bucky, I'm so glad you got some supervillains to be pallbearers at my funeral."

That was a nice moment, and, again, much less leavened by uncertainty than this book usually is.  Just don't let it happen too often, Bru, or people'll say you're going soft.

Loki's diary: "Disguised as Scarlet Witch today. Reformed a team of Avengers today for nefarious purposes. Quicksilver humped my leg repeatedly. Must figure out why. Mortals are disgusting."

They're saving it for Ennis' upcoming Thor MAX series.

Yes, it's pretty heavily implied with the character of Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus' brother.

I still can't believe JKR actually managed to get that past the censors XD

Last page, last panel, Bucky's face looks like it could have been drawn by Jack Kirby.

I love Brubaker's Namor.

You know, that Mighty Avengers snippet goes a long way to making me interested in picking up the book when it comes out in trade.

The rest of the arc decent?

It's decent; sometimes I feel the events they're depicting should have a bit more scope than the art and writing convey, but if you like the more old-style Avengers, you'll probably enjoy it.

I wonder if the real Wanda will appear soon.

It's hinted at. Pietro has the Darkhold, and he wants to use it to find Wanda. Loki shows up and whisks the Avengers away. Pietro is shocked and furious that Bova didn't tell him about Wanda's involvement.

This is logical. Only the original Vision would be as quick to realize that This Is Not Wanda, and he's gone. However, Pietro will now seize upon any excuse to track down the new guys, and Loki can't keep him away forever without doing something that could break his cover.

This was the first issue of Brubaker's Cap that I haven't enjoyed. Namor was worth the pain, though.

"Wow, Bucky, I'm so glad you got some supervillains to be pallbearers at my funeral."

Actually I sort of liked that, the Thunderbolts having to pay public homage to a real, PROPER superhero must have been bitter gall for them.! :)

His work visa expired 3 years ago but he stayed anyway.

Joke aside, he's an unregistered hero and New Avenger; Norman'd through him in Space-Guantanamo if he showed his face at a public event like that.

Osborn's now black?

Or is this one of those grey Hulk things where they're correcting a longstanding mistake? Because on a black guy, Osborn's hair makes a lot more sense...(or at least the obviously unfamiliar colorist must've thought so...)

The color guard at the Torch's funeral makes no damn sense at all. The National Ensign is never paraded alone like that, and I can't remember a single military funeral with a color guard on parade, anyway. Have to say that I'm impressed the artist didn't put the field on the foot end, and knew to put only a six-man team on the flag fold itself, despite having drawn eight pallbearers.
