The Shadows of the Empire comic wasn't an adaptation. Shadows of the Empire was a full on "multi-media event," ("everything but the movie" was the original pitch): comic book, video game, soundtrack, novel, trading card game, etc. It even had spin-offs: Masters of Tera-Kasi, a comic book sequel, an extended soundtrack, iirc. Each aspect told a different segment of the story, and putting it all together (attempted to) tell a real gem of a tale.
IMO, the book was the best segment, followed by the soundtrack, then the game, then the comic, then the trading card game, and then everything else I wasn't exposed to (because I have no opinion about it, having missed out on it). But then again, the novel was the backbone of the whole thing, and I read it first. So first installment wins.
