More Blackest Night Issues
Old series are being temporarily rebooted due to Blackest Night. From the Source.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sadly, this reboot only extends to one issue. Still, it's a cool idea.

POWER OF SHAZAM #48 - Eric Wallace tells the tale in which Osiris returns from the dead to “chew the fat” with a very powerless Billy and Mary Batson.
CATWOMAN #83 - Fabian Nicieza has the original Black mask explaining to Selina why shooting him in the head was a bad idea.
SUICIDE SQUAD #67 - Gail Simone and John Ostrander are ringside for the epic fight between a very dead Suicide Squad and a possibly soon-to-be dead Secret Six.
QUESTION #37 - Greg Rucka has the one answer for when two Questions meet.
PHANTOM STRANGER #42 - Pete Tomasi reveals what Blackest Night means to the Phantom Stranger.
WEIRD WESTERN TALES #71 - Dan DiDio (weirdly talking about myself in the third person) lets you know what all the dead old west characters are doing in the new west today.
ATOM AND HAWKMAN #46 - Geoff brings you the double date from Hell, The Black Lantern Hawks work to reunite Atom with his long dead love, Jean Loring.
STARMAN #81 - James Robinson returns to the book he made great and visits some old haunts.

Personally, the only one I got really excited about was Catwoman. And that was before I realized Fabian Nicieza was writing it, who I don't particularly like. Still, I don't dislike him, so here's hoping it will be good.

Looks forward to Phantom Stranger but that's all.

Babs is being written by Gail Simone again (I assume)! *does dance of sheer glee* Why does this only have to last one issue?

Also excited about the Catwoman, Question, and Shazam features!

Where does it say Babs might appear?

Nowhere, but it IS where Babs first was Oracle...

Yes and it was Ostrander who made her Oracle wasn't it?

Sure, she was a Suicide Squad member, but she won't be a member of a zombie Suicide Squad, being as alive as she is (and don't give them ideas, now!)
It sounds like they might mostly be going after Deadshot here, though they'll certainly involve Waller, and maybe, maybe Babs (did any of them even know her ID? would the Bat-skull make that a moot point?)

Well, it couldn't be a Suicide Squad book without The Wall!

Waller doesn't. She knows Oracle as "Amy Beddoes" and never pried further (though she was aware it was most likely an alias).

I'll only be getting Suicide Squad, but the westerns, Question, and Starman sound good and probably Atom cause it's Johns writing it.

Wait, Vic is going to be a Black Lantern? Wasn't he at peace when he died?

I think it has to be a special kind of "at peace" like Dove I had. The kind where it was part of your power.

I am actually excited about this in a way. I really want to read a Shazam book where Billy and Mary are starring and not supporting and the Catwoman one intrigues me. Will a certain character with the initials BW who has NOT risen (and all clues point to not rising at all) be brought up in addition to the Black Mask? And how will some of these characters defend themselves against zombies that can't be killed. Renee Montoya has no special powers, neither does Selina Kyle or some of Western characters.

It was only Don Hall, the first Dove, who got that.

Tellingly, Dawn Granger, the current Dove, is an unsuitable victim for the Black Lanterns, because she doesn't display any of the emotional colours in Zombievision - just a white light.

What ever gave you that idea? Sure, he had a serene disposition compared to his younger days (not saying a lot, really!), but he was barely coherent enough to be at peace. (and when he wasn't he seemed a little calmly bitter at the whole deal, actually)

And "at peace when he died" doesn't really mean anything without some supernatural intervention, like embodying a Lord of Order or something.

(but anyway, too busy doing little dances here, Question #37!!)

What are the chances that the issues that do really good, get their series renewed for good?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]sailorlibra

Probably not very high. DC is obviously expecting these issues to sell well and any success they have will probably be attributed to Blackest Night. I'd say the only way any of them might get a permanent reboot would be if one sold significantly better than the others. For example if most of the issues sold about 50,000 and Catwoman sold 70,000 issues. I doubt we'll see any permanent continuations, but it is nice to hope.

Why is almost no one else at least intrigued--if not outright excited--about more STARMAN?

Okay, so James Robinson hasn't written anything worthwhile in ten years, and stuff like BATMAN: FACE THE FACE and JLA: CRY OF JUSTICE is aggressively horrid, but still... STARMAN!!!

... by which I mean, THE SHADE!!! Hopefully!

Question #37! Question #37! Question #37!
Aaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yyyyyyyyeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!
Between that and BN: Wondy, January's gonna be soooo good. I really happy Rucka's handling it instead of Johns.

oh yeah sure the Suicide Squad and Phantom Stranger things sound really cool, but way overshadowed
Here's a though, are they keeping the trade dresses from the old series for these things? I know I really liked the title placard for the Question series, and I'd be glad to see it return (it could really only have been better if they'd combined the ? with the Q instead of putting it inside it, but whatever).

Question #37!!!

It's must be like Christmas, Hanukkah,Kwanzaa and the Winter Solstice all wrapped up into one for you there King.

Dialogue I hope to hear:

Vic: Christ, Renee I wore some ugly ass suits when I was the Question but what's with that belly shirt? :)

Definitely looking forward to the Phantom Stranger story. There was a tiny reference to the Stranger (back in BN #2, IIRC) being neither dead nor alive but something else, by somebody. I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

Same here! I so look forward to some Stranger-y goodness (though I bet Deadman will somehow be involved, too, since Deadman did used to hang out with P.S. a lot back in the day).

I almost hope they're going to suck, because reading a great Suicide Squad or Question story just to be greeted by Titans or Mag on the rack the next months would be mad depressing.

Personally, I'm interested to see what they'll do with the conversation between Osiris and a powerless Billy and especially MARY Batson, to see if they can do anything to repair the damage recent events have done to both characters...or, more likely, make it even worse.

Let's be honest here as well, of the 3 Marvels the only one who was suspicious of Osiris was Freddy and Freddy was a member of the Teen Titans who turned on him (ultimately giving up his powers in shame and getting eaten by Sobek). Apparently BL Osiris will be fighting Freddy but like you I'm really interested in what state of mind Billy and Mary (especially given what happened in Final Crisis) are in and what they do to fight off a Black Lantern when they have no powers at all. I wonder if the Wizard will show up as well.
