Oliver finished setting the table and then went back into the kitchen to check on dinner. He had been planning this for days and so far it looked as if it was going to work. Earlier in the day he'd seen Clarke for lunch and he'd wished her a happy birthday but that was it. She looked a bit surprised and he was sure she was wondering what he was up to and then he'd seen Harley's post. It worked out perfectly and gave him a little extra time to get dinner prepared. As he checked on the bread in the oven, he thought back to last year whe he and Clarke were still getting to know each other and how he had given art supplies and the expression on her face. Oliver had gone out on a limb with that, not being certain that she'd like them but he'd seen her sketching and she was very good, in fact he had one of her sketches framed and hanging in his room. This year he had decided to go with something a little more personal and had considered jewelry but she didn't wear much of that so he'd decided on a trinket box that had reminded him of her and a travel journal which would be perfect to take on missions if she wanted to record something she'd seen in another world. With everything nearly ready, Oliver poured himself a glass of wine and hopped up on the counter to wait. If he'd been at home Rosita would have smacked his legs and told him not to do that but she wasn't here and for a moment he felt a pang of homesickness. He missed William and his housekeeper, who was more family than an employee, but with the strangeness of the multiverse he knew that he was still there and they had no idea that he was also here. He felt another pang but this one was a bit of guilt because the first thing he'd thought of had not been Felicity. When he'd first arrived in Atlantis, he hadn't known if she was dead or alive and then when he got his new memories, there was the very painful memory of her rejecting his marriage proposal, loudly, at Barry's rehearsal dinner. While he knew it had happened, it was still just a memory and it didn't feel as if it had happened to him. Hopefully things had worked out for the best for the him that was still in Star City and Felicity whatever the best thing might be. All that he knew was that he was happy here, he had made good frineds, he was in love with an amazing woman and even with the strangeness of Breckentale, he had made some new friends. The timer on the oven went off and he took a sip of wine and hopped off the counter, sitting the glass aside. He'd told Harley eight o'clock and it was nearly that. He smiled as he took things into the dining room. It was going to be a very good eveniing, he already knew that. |
