Chapter 2 The first week that Harry had the room alone in St Mungo's, Lucius came and went. Talking of matters outside of the hospital and always bringing the latest copy of the Daily Prophet. From what Lucius was telling, things between him and his son were getting worse.
Draco refused to talk to Lucius and moved his bedroom to the other side of the manor away from Lucius. The only good thing, where Harry was concerned, was that Draco had not left his father. He just couldn't get used to the fact that both Voldemort and his mother were gone.
It was hard for Draco to become accustomed to the new way that Lucius was acting. This was not the Lucius who almost killed Harry several times. He saw what Voldemort was going to do to him, he knew he was disposable. That woke Lucius up fast. He had to change to survive and the change stayed with him. Harry liked the 'new' Lucius. The more they talked Harry realized that Lucius was taught to hate people who where not like him or his father. Lucius' father seemed to be a cold man. He used money to keep Lucius under his thumb but also far enough away that Lucius did not interfere with his life. Lucius once told Harry that he was sent to India as a surprise, only to discover that his parents had went to Paris so his mother could get a new wardrobe and go to the theaters.
Lucius talked about stock markets of the wizarding world, antiques, paintings and furniture. He became a collector of fine things that he loved so much and left politics behind him. Harry was still listening when something was in the news that caught Lucius' eye and he went in to a fit over it. Still that was as much as Lucius did in politics these days. To Harry that was a major step for Lucius becoming a person that he is accepting that he was lucky to be alive.
As time went by, the talks became more personal... Even after Harry left St. Mungo's, their friendship kept growing. Harry also knew that he was becoming attracted to him. What wasn't there to be attracted to? The man was built like a god and if there was a flaw to be found, Harry couldn't see it. Still, Harry was not ready to let Lucius know that. He did not even know if Lucius had interest in men. That would crush Harry. At least this way they'd still have their friendship.
Today's talk was on how Harry grew up in the Muggle world. Was the article in the Quibbler in fact the truth? Harry nodded, and then told Lucius there was more much more that was unsaid. Lucius pressed Harry for the whole life story. Harry told of days of hunger and how Mrs. Weasley saved him. How he had to hide his very existence from people because his uncle thought of him as a freak. The list went on and on. Harry saw Lucius' face a little paler. "What is it, Mr. Malfoy? That is my past, it is gone, and I can't change it. That past made me who I am. I like who I am."
Lucius shook his head "It is not that, Harry. It is the fact that I had the same outlook toward Muggles and Muggleborns. I did not even think people would look at a wizard as anything but a powerful being." Then Lucius moved closer to Harry's face. "If I could avoid Azkaban, the Muggles you lived with would have died. As you said, that is in the past."
Harry was shocked at Lucius sounding as a true Death eater at that moment. "Mr.…" Lucius shook his head again. "Call me Lucius if you wish. The answer is no, I would not kill them. I would see the inside of Azkaban again. On top of that, you are away from them."
Harry sipped the tea to cover the relief that crossed his face. Also the blush that came from being that close to Lucius. He asked Lucius why he joined Voldemort. Harry really wanted to know why a person who had power of his own and had everything he could, would want to join a group that would take it away. "Harry, I was young and wanted distance from my father. At that time, my father was the one with the power. I wanted power of my own—so marriage and the Death Eaters seemed natural to get what I wanted." Lucius stared far away seeing a time that Harry could not phantom.
"Lucius, you don't think that marring Narcissa was a mistake? You do have a son to carry your name." Harry broke whatever line of thinking Lucius was following.
"No, I don't, but there was someone else I loved more and I would have preferred to be with instead of Narcissa. But as you said, I have a son to carry the name." Lucius winked.
Did that wink mean what Harry thought it meant? The other person being a man? One person came to mind; Severus Snape. It made sense, since Snape did spend much time with the Malfoy's and they where very close. Harry felt the blush return to his face but before he could cover it, Lucius smiled and nodded. The look in his eyes was one of admiration and an underlining hunger.
The day ended and Lucius kissed Harry on the cheek just to get the blush to return. He whispered in to Harry's ear, "I am not blind. You can't hide it." Therefore, Lucius knew Harry was interest. Harry's day just got a hell of a lot better.
