WHO: Parvati and Charlie
WHERE: Charlie's place
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon
WHAT: Parvati comes to visit and see the lake

The mountain air was chilly, but invigorating and Parvati let out a sharp sound that was mixture of laugh and shock once she apparated to a spot not far from the area where Charlie Weasley lived. For a couple of minutes, she stayed where she was, breathing in the scent of the mountains, which was quite different from the sea but equally as fresh, and admiring the view around her. Spreading out her arms, Parvati laughed and tipped her face to the sun, enjoying her 'adventure' already. She was always an adaptable sort and since there was no point being upset about her death, she wanted to enjoy the opportunities she now had.

Dropping her arms. she turned around, looking for Charlie's cabin. It was just where he had said it was and she made her way over, calling out as she approached.

"Charlie? Charlie Weasley! It's Parvati Patil!"

Charlie strummed idly on his acoustic guitar as he gazed, from his seat, outside his living room window. It was a beautiful day; the sun was shining leaving a soft, warm hue on everything it touched. It was a bit cool, but he knew it would warm up eventually, warm enough for a swim. He breathed in a deep breath of the cool crisp mountain air, sighing peacefully as he exhaled, and continued to strum, as he tried to tune his instrument in the proper key.

The day had started early for Charlie. Knowing Parvati was supposed to stop by; he headed into work in the wee hours of the morning, to tend to the serpents at Castle Slytherin. It wasn’t any hassle he figured, it was best to keep on top of things, and aside from that he never actually asked Parvati what time to expect her arrival. The last thing he was going to do was write her and ask; coming off as overly eager would be a mistake. He didn’t want to seem to her to be some crazy lonely fool living alone, isolated in his mountain cabin, when as he saw it, that wasn’t the case at all. Though he had to admit to himself that he really wouldn’t mind the company of a beautiful witch, no matter how things panned out. If anything at all, it would be a welcoming distraction.

He saw her arrival, but said nothing from his window seat. He watched her intently, smiling as she drew closer. Charlie thought silently that in this setting that she was like a rose, already in full bloom, growing in a field of weeds that included himself. In short, she was completely out of his league, though at this moment it was nothing to worry about, he was just a guide for the day, and wasn’t the sort to dwell to long on such matters.

When she called out his name he stood up from his seat, walked across the room and placed his guitar in its stand, before heading to his front door. Charlie opened the door and stood in the doorway, smiling as if he had just seen her for the first moment that day. “I was wondering when I would see you today.”

Belatedly Parvati realised that she'd not told him when she might arrive, but then again, she hadn't even been sure of it herself. Even after death, she was still a creature of impulse, ready to dance into a crazy situation without thinking about the consequences. That didn't mean she was unable to feel guilty about accidentally inconveniencing people, but since Charlie didn't look annoyed, her apology was made with a cute smile and a giggle. "Whoops! I forgot to organise an arrival time, didn't I? Forgive me!" hands came together in a prayer style and she ducked her head in a little bow before lifting it to grin at him. "This is such a lovely spot, Charlie! Thank you for offering to be my guide today."

“Don’t worry about it. I didn’t think to ask about the time either.” Charlie admitted as he smiled at Parvati’s little prayer-like bowing display, returning it with one in turn. “Its my pleasure,” he said with a playful wink.

Charlie picked up the packed knapsack he left by his door, and tossed it over his shoulder. He knew for certain this morning when he got home that he didn’t want to be unprepared for anything that may arise. Where they were heading was a safe haven, but as he had learned since arriving in this plain, you never knew what unexpected thing you might come across. He closed the door behind him, and headed down the front stairs of the cabin, making his way towards her.

“Got everything you need?”

"I think so," Parvati glanced over her shoulder at the backpack she was carrying. It looked small, but like many magical objects, the size was a deception. In the pack she had stowed necessities such as food, water and some extra clothes as well as swimsuit and towel. The clothing she currently wore was more practical than her usual outfits, but since she was Parvati, the trousers, sweater and jacket were cut to show off her slender figure. "I have to admit that I'm not used to scrambling around on mountains."

“I figured as much, not many people choose to live up in the middle of nowhere, let alone spend most of their time traipsing through the wilderness like I do,” he said with a small chuckle. “The only other person I have seen up here is Lord Slytherin, and he mostly keeps to himself on his grounds,” he said, trying to make conversation, as he stole an appreciative glance of Parvati’s attire, admiring the way her clothes accented the curves of her figure. It was definitely more casual then he imagined she normally dressed, which in his mind was probably an exaggeration of the actual case.

He wore a simple pair of jeans, and black t-shirt. The wind was cool on his bare arms, but it felt soothing, and refreshing. There was just the right amount of chill in the air, enough for it to feel revitalizing. “Don’t worry, it’s not too much of a distance to cover, and the path is fairly easy to follow,” he said as he gestured for her to follow along side him. “I wouldn’t drag you up a mountain side or anything without telling you, its meant to be a relaxing day, right?” he said mischievously, as he turned his head slightly to look at her as he spoke. “Otherwise, there’s no telling what we would run into, but this is a fairly safe area.”

"I don't like being alone very much," Parvati confessed with a wry smile. "One of the reasons why I liked having the de-aged people staying at my pub was because then I had company even at night," she shrugged. "Maybe it's because I'm a twin and was always part of a pair until Hogwarts started and even then I shared a dorm with other girls so I wasn't alone."

"I'm fairly fit," she glanced at him with an equally michievous grin. "So don't baby me... well, not too much," Parvati knew she looked delicate and as if she would swoon at the sight of danger, but despite wanting to forget about it, she was proud of standing her ground and fighting during the battle of Hogwarts.

“I know exactly what you mean,” Charlie said knowingly. His mind wandered for a moment, back in time, to just shortly after Fred’s death. From that time one, it was like a part of George was missing and could never hope to be recovered. Charlie remembered thinking that George could be in a room, surrounded by people, and seem completely alone. Having a twin was different, unique to just normal siblings, who while are still very dear, do not share that same connection. He never felt it personally, but he could understand, and the need, when separated, to not be alone

“It’s definitely different for me,” he admitted. “Growing up as one of seven children, and being one of the eldest meant you had little time for yourself, or the things you wanted to do. Someone was always going somewhere, something needed to be done, and it was always hectic, loud, and overcrowded. Not that I was bitter about it, it was just the way it was, that was my life. When I went to school it was always a juggling act as well. Friends, classes, quidditch, there was little time for myself to just go off and do my own thing. So I guess when I left Hogwarts and went off alone to work abroad I relished every moment that was mine, and the chance to do exactly as I wanted,” he explained. “That’s not to say that I was ever some kind of shut-in,” he added with a smile.

He hadn’t really given it much thought before. Going abroad to work just seemed natural, and though he couldn’t visit home often, he never felt homesick. He supposed it sounded sort of selfish, but he really didn’t see it that way. Some people are lucky enough to find their calling, and his life’s work in Romania for him was just that.

As the walked along the winding path he noticed a set of tracks, still fresh, and crouched down on his haunches to investigate the trail. He suspected they belong to a Bicorn, and deciding to avoid any complications, choose to make a slight detour. “Looks like something is out and about, chances are it’s a Bicorn, but tracks don’t exactly tell me its mood, necessarily. We’ll just head up this way,” he said as he climbed back up to his feet and pointed to a slightly more rugged trail. “It will take us up hill, around the stream and field its likely grazing in. We’ll be able to see it better, from a higher vantage point, not to mention, if it’s not alone, we don’t have to worry about being trampled.”

"I never accused you of being one," she returned his smile, glad that Charlie understood where she was coming from in her need for company. Parvati didn't mind some time to herself, she just preferred knowing others were nearby.

She was genuinely intrigued and impressed by his tracking skills, having next to none of her own, and watched with wide, interested eyes. "All right... would tracks ever tell you an animal's mood?" Parvati asked curiously as they started on the rugged trail. She was glad for the sensible boots she was wearing, it wouldn't be a very great adventure if she sprained her ankle before the first hour was over!

The path was getting steeper now, steadily climbing upward. He listened happily to Pavarti’s question as he quickly climbed up a series of rocks in their path. It wasn't everyday people asked about tracking, and he was more then happy to explain. Once at the top he reached down, and extended his arm to her, offering her his hand, in case she needed a hand to steady her climb, or if she wanted to just pull her up. Ambling up rocks and steep terrain he was used to, and from traveling on occasion with other who weren’t, he knew exactly how unsteady on her feet she may become.

“Oh of course, you can get a general idea of their state of mind at times. It all comes down to the arrangement of the tracks, from that you can get an idea of their stride. If they are just ambling along, or running, or of the tracks are close together, or spaced apart, it all tells you about how they are moving, and their stance. Like people, an animal walks differently depending on its mood. If the tracks are lightly visible, or deeply embedded, it can tell how fast they are moving. Aside from the tracks, broken branches, twigs, brambles, it can all tell you something. This one is in a hurry, either because it’s pissed off, or is in a rush to meet up with another of its kind. A roll of the dice really.”

She might be fit, but the steep slope set her calves burning by the time they were at the top and she was glad to take his hand for a help up. The exertion caused her cheeks to flush and she was breathing harder.

"I see... yes... our footprints do change if we're stomping due to anger or running quickly," Parvati said with a bright smile, pushing back some stray strands of hair. Looking at him with an eager gleam in her eyes, her hand tightened on his. "Can you show me how to 'read' the tracks then?"

Charlie was pleasantly surprised to see Parvati reach the top of the hill, with only the slightest of help. He watched her quietly as the flush of her cheeks and deepness of her breaths brought a glint of satisfaction to his eyes. The tightening of her grip on his hand caused a bright smile of his own to be returned in kind. He gently rubbed his thumb over her hand as they stood, silent for only a moment before speaking. “If you want to learn, I’d be more then happy to teach you.”

"It was never something I thought about... before," she mused, her eyes drinking in the view with delight, hand remaining in his. "All I cared about was fun, fashion, parties and living life to the full," Parvati tilted her head to one side and pursed her lips. "Rather shallow, hm? Anyway, it would be nice to learn something new."

“There is nothing shallow about enjoying your life. If you had ulterior motives for the things you did in life that would be another story. No one worth knowing would say your shallow for living your life to its fullest,” he said smiling, as he started back on the elevated path, along side Parvati, with her hand still held in his own.

"You know, Ron never told me you were wise," Parvati teased, but there was a hint of appreciation in her smile. She had enjoyed her life for the most part and lived every moment with enthusiasm. Of course, there were some aspects she would have liked to change, but who didn't have regrets? She walked with him, managing to keep pace and not pulling her hand away, in fact her fingers only tightened again to give a little squeeze. "Was that a guitar I spied inside your cabin? Are you a music man?"

“Even I have my moments of insight, especially around beautiful women” he said playfully. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted the reason for their detour, grazing in the clearing below them. There were about four Bicorns that he could see. The youngest one he suspected was the owner of tracks they saw earlier.

He pointed down below at the animals grazing and drinking from the stream, making sure Parvati caught a glimpse of the Bicorns. From this elevation they could seem them closely at a safe distance as they walked by. “You did hear guitar, I was tuning my acoustic. I started playing years ago. I heard that music sooths the savage beast and I figured any addition skills would likely keep me alive longer. Now I have grown to love it, as opposed to it just being a tool, it’s a bit of a hobby.”

"I am happy to be an inspiration," Parvati laughed. She never practiced false modesty and always accepted compliments with pleasure. She fell silent as she observed the Bicorns, observing the animals with interest, idly wishing she could pet one without distressing the little group.

"Music should be a part of everyone's life," she announced with conviction. "Even if it's just to enjoy listening to it. My mother made me and my sister learn piano, at the time I resented that, but now I'm glad she did. I always liked singing and dancing best though."

"I agree completely, music is one of life's indulgences that I cannot go without," he said smiling.

The trail was winding downward now, back to its original path. They would reach the end soon, and he hope the lake would be to Parvati's tastes.
