Entry tags:eileen snape, merope gaunt

Who: Eileen Snape and Merope Gaunt
Where: village tea room, The Steaming Pot
What: A chance encounter between two women.
Rating: G
Complete: No.

The last time Eileen had sat in this quaint little tea room, most of the village inhabitants were in the city, attending the Yuletide ball. She had imagined it a tiresome event, most likely filled with strange faces with whom she would have been expected to engage in idle small talk. She had been glad that the tea room owner had remained and kept this little house open.

Eileen sipped her tea, the cup and its saucer the only items on the small table. The weather would have quickly cooled her cuppa had it not been under a warming charm, but she had always liked the combination of cold winds and hot tea.

The random meeting the two was bound to happen at some point. She'd left her home for the day in the village. She walked in and didn't bother to make small talk, whispering,"..Cinnamon Tea." She sighed. Looking as drab as always in her ragged dress and faded, off white apron also torn at the bottom. The only thing she was thinking about was Tom Riddle, she could think of nothing and and she sudden dropped in a seat and looked blank.

The only reason she held the tea at all was to warm her hands.

Eileen could not help but watch the newcomer as she entered the shop, noting her appearance and her stance that seemed to pull her in to herself. At least, that was how it seemed to Eileen. It was the first time she saw Merope Gaunt, but somehow she knew that this woman from the other table was the same one she spoke with only recently.

Being the only two customers of the day, Eileen was able to speak where she commonly would not. "Are you feeling all right?" she asked, her low voice just loud enough for the other to hear.

Her eyes were kept downwards and into the cup, she felt a little empty and she hardly heard Eileen at all. However, when the words sank in finally, she rose her head with two strangely looking eyes of green and blue. Being that her description was unique to this feature, one could easily know who she was. Placing her tea down, her forearms rested against the length of her thighs and hands on the caps of her knee.

"I guess..." She was partially lying, she was horrid at it. Merope's eyes made a guilty stare down as she was unable to lie to someone while looking straight at them.

Eileen inclined her head at that, acknowledging the response though not fully believing it herself. It was a predictable answer well enough, and though the other woman seemed fine, she did appear to have things in her mind.

"Is that so?" she asked, setting down her cup before gesturing at the seat across from hers. "Would you care to join me then?"

Merope was someone who gave into anything that was thrown at her, trying not to harbor the need to stay away. She leaned up and stood before sitting near Eileen but not very close, she rested her tea on a nearby table and leaned back. Unsure of what to say, she sighed,"....Yes."

There was nobody in the world that could fathom how difficult it was for her to just sit and have a chat.

Eileen raised her eyebrows as the other rose to sit closer, though still not at the same table. Well, she supposed it was better that way. Strangely enough, it did seem more comfortable not being too close.

"It is certainly nice to see you come out once in a while," she said, turning back to her tea.

The moment that Eileen said something about Merope being seen outside, she grimaced. She didn't like the idea of people knowing when her times of being out was. It seemed a little unsettling to her but she didn't say anything to that particular idea.

"How do you know...?" She sighed.

Eileen noted the other's discomfort, but said nothing about it, yet unsure as she was as to how the other might take it. "I come out of my home once in a while. Not very often, admittedly, though I take note of those I see."

She wasn't going to fight with it, she knew that there was no point. "Oh, do you like your home?" She tilted her head towards Eileen and put her hands on her legs, rubbing the friction of her horrid dress.

"I like it well enough. Certainly much better than my previous one." An understatement, with a husband who was barely even sober and a son to whom she could not give enough of her time. "And you? I assume you have been here at least as long as I. How do you find things?"

"I don't find things. I stay home. ---Just wander until I find what I need." She made a effortless sigh and leaned back against the chair. Merope didn't really known much about this woman and felt like she was humiliating herself.
