Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Parvati and Gellert
WHERE: main room, Fate & Beauty pub
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon
WHAT: Hot chocolate, cookies and explanations.

Nibbling on the edge of a chocolate chip cookie, Parvati gazed thoughtfully into the fire crackling merrily away in the grate. She didn't know if it was against the rules in this world to explain to Gellert that he wasn't really a child, but she also didn't believe in lying to children... even if they were not children. Plus Gellert was obviously very determinded and independent as well as intelligent, so surely it was better to tell him the truth rather than leaving it so mysterious that he tried to do something crazy to find out where his parents and the other were. By telling him the truth, Parvati hoped he would stay put until he changed back to normal, which judging by Remus, wouldn't be long.

Setting down the half eaten cookie, she picked up her mug of hot chocolate in both hands and sipped at it, still gazing into the fire. Her thoughts were not only on Gellert and the other kids, but her own children and their father. This whole experience had brought back her memories of them and she felt a bittersweet pang hit her heart causing a soft sigh to escape as she lowered her mug.

"Hello, Princess Parvati!" Gellert greeted her cheerfully as he poked his head around the door to the room, checking to see if she was there already. Seeing as she was, Gellert ran into the room, heading straight for the cookies. He carried a rather random assortment of wildflowers in one hand which he had the sense to proffer to Parvati before he grabbed any cookies.

"Here! I brought you these, your Highness! They're flowers for you because you're so pretty!" The colorful blooms shimmered brightly at Parvati, as shining as Gellert's grin. With his free hand, he snagged a cookie and bit down on it, crumbs collecting around his mouth in a cheerful grin of pale gold.

Roused from her musings, Parvati turned her head to smile at Gellert. She found she couldn't help it really, since he was absolutely adorable with the blond curls and big smile. "Ooh, lovely!" she exclaimed, taking to proffered bouquet with genuine delight. Parvati adored flowers and she adored receiving bouquets. Roses were her favourites, but anything pretty would make her happy. Before thinking about how he would respond (and what he might recall when older again), she captured Gellert in a one armed hug. "Thank you, sweetheart!" she kissed his cheek and then released him to conjure a vase with water to put the flowers in before sending them to pride of place on a window sill. "Hot chocolate?" a mug was pushed towards him with optional mashmellows on a saucer close by.

The kiss to his cheek and the hug made Gellert grin even more widely, little dimples suddenly peeking out for a second. "Yay! You like them!"

He was very pleased! His Mother always said that when visiting people, you should bring them gifts. Especially girls. And pretty girls liked flowers and jewelry so Gellert had picked Parvati lots of flowers on the way to see her! And she liked them, so that was very good!

Remembering his manners, he said quickly, "And you're very welcome!"

He plopped himself down near her, taking the mug of hot chocolate into both hands. Blowing on the top, he dropped in a marshmallow after sniffing it curiously to figure out what it was, then looked at her expectantly. "Why am I going to understand it when I'm older?"

"Hmm..." Parvati nibbled on her lower lip for a moment, trying to figure out how to explain it. She recalled one of her muggleborn friends telling her about a film once that dealt with this sort of age reversal which was a good illustration what had happened, but since child Gellert disliked muggles, she needed to make sure she didn't mention muggle things. "Well... tell me first, have you ever wished you were an adult?"

"Nope!" Gellert dunked a cookie into the hot chocolate, then bit off the end with a happy sigh of satisfaction. Wriggling around to get comfortable, he added quickly in case he'd hurt her feelings, "But it is not that there is anything wrong with being an adult. I just like being a child! But being an adult means that people cannot tell me what to do, I suppose."

Then again... "But I do not have to listen to adults now either!" Gellert's grin was a thing of pure mischief as he thought about the myriad ways in which he got out of having to listen to adults that tried to tell him what to do.

With a curious tilt of his head, he inquired of Parvati, "Why?"

"Ha! People still tell you what to do when you're an adult, but it's easier not to listen to them..." Parvati pulled a face. She guessed Gellert hardly listened to anyone though, people who became dark lords generally wanted to be the ones making the orders, not taking them. His pronouncement of not listening to adults as a child caused her to shake her head, smiling a bit ruefully as she pitied his past caregivers. He must have been a nightmare to control!

Returning her thoughts to the matter at hand, Parvati realised she needed another way to explain things due to his answer. "Being a child is a lot of fun and there are a lot of adults who often wish they were a child again because they're sick of responsibility, but for most people it's impossible to become a child... or so we think," she paused and looked at him, her expression serious. "What would you think if I told you that a few days ago you were as old as I am?"

"I think that if you are more smart than everyone, it is always easy to find reasons not to listen to someone." An emphatic nod of his head underscored that statement, then Gellert held out a cookie for Parvati, "Here, your Highness. You should eat one as well! They are very, very yummy."

His smile was positively angelic, "You make good cookies, if you cooked these yourself!"

Her explanation made him frown a little, nibbling on a cookie in delicate little bites. "I think that I would first think you are lying to me or playing a joke. Then I would worry about if someone has--"

Gellert struggled to find the English word, "--Changed your mind? Made it broken. And then I would ask /why/ you would say that. So."

He finished off the cookie and smiled up at her blithely, "Why would you say that?"

"Oh really? My mother used to say it was just because I was bloody-minded," Parvati muttered, but then she shrugged and smiled, taking the cookie he offered. "Thanks, I did make them, I like cooking."

"I did say you wouldn't believe me, but I'm not lying or joking," Parvati was beginning to have second doubts about her decision, but she couldn't really take it all back now. He was too clever and would probably spot a lie. "I think you're very intelligent, Gellert, and of all the kids you have the potential to wrap your mind around this. I don't really understand what's happening, I'm fairly new here as well, but apparently for reasons no one really understands, sometimes people here... change and become children without memories of their adult selves. Remember Remus? You spoke to him, right?" she couldn't recall if he had spoken to child Remus or not. "He was a child like you only a couple of days ago, but now he's big," she toyed with the cookie in her hand, biting down on her lip again. "Anyway, this is why you woke up in a 'strange' place without the people you knew, because you were an adult a few days ago and living on your own," she was not going to mention that they were in the afterlife, that was far too much!

"..."

Maybe the pretty lady was crazy after all.

Gellert munched down on another cookie while he very seriously considered the possibility that his nice friend Princess Parvati (he wasn't sure why he knew she was a princess, he just did!) was not operating with a full shelf of ingredients.

But this was a very strange thing to go crazy over. Wouldn't crazy people be more ... obviously crazy? All her clothes were in the right place and her words made sense. It's just that her ideas didn't make sense!

Doubtfully, Gellert pointed out, "But Sally said that I could not go home from here. Why would I be big and be somewhere that I cannot leave from?"

Thankfully, giving Parvati a chance to distract him without having to tell him he's dead, he suddenly asked, "As a big person -- am I happy?"

It's an odd question to ask, but Gellert hasn't made up his mind as to what he wants to do with his life. But whatever it is, he wants to be happy.

Parvati seized on the opportunity he inadvertently provided without hesitation. "You appear to be happy, I only had the opportunity to meet you once before you... well, became as you are now, but you were... are very witty, charming and were smiling a lot," she placed one hand lightly on his shoulder and smiled in a reassuring manner. "It's all right if you don't believe me right now or think I'm bananas," she added with a quick wink.

A little guiltily, mostly because he'd been thinking exactly that, Gellert smiled up at her. "Okay."

Giving himself time to think about it, he reached for another cookie and nibbled at it again, washing down each tiny bite with another gulp of his hot chocolate. Thinking it over, he turned his large blue eyes back up to Parvati, asking her in rapid succession, "Am I still clever? Do I have friends or am I alone? Do I do lots and lots and lots of magic? What kind of job do I have? Is Kosa still my familiar? What about Binky? Do I still have Binky with me? Do I have a girlfriend? Will she be mad to hear that I married Rose? Is Rose my girlfriend when I am a big person or is she Teddy's girlfriend?"

Parvati giggled at his guilty smile, not offended at all. She recalled her daughter giving her that look once, most kids seemed to be of the opinion that adults suffered insane periods in their lives.

The questions caused her eyes to widen and she held up her hands, laughing again. "Whoa! One at a time, okay? Um... you are definitely still clever, very clever. If you didn't have friends then you would have been left alone as a child, wouldn't you? So yes, you have friends. I guess you do a lot of magic, I really can't say for sure, but you're very well known for your magic so I don't think there's anything to worry about. I don't know Kosa and Binky, I'm sorry, so I can't answer that. As for Rose, I think... I think she likes someone else when she's an adult," Parvati hedged around this subject since she was only guessing from what she'd seen when Godric came round and she wasn't sure if the feelings he obviously had were returned. "But I don't know her very well, or Teddy. As for you having a girlfriend... I don't think so, but I'm sure there are plenty of girls that would like to be!" she playfully tapped his cheek. "You're very handsome and charming when you're older," Parvati winked again. Let's just pretend we don't know about you being a dark wizard and causing all sorts of issues in life!

Considering her answers, Gellert found them to his liking. Barring the bits about not knowing about Kosa and Binky. And possibly the bit about Rose having a different adult.

Gnawing on a cookie thoughtfully, mouth ringed with crumbs now, Gellert blinked up at her, clearly concerned, "Teddy wrote her a poem. Is Teddy also secretly a big person?" Because Parvati had said 'when she's an adult' when talking about Rose, so Rose was secretly a big person too. "Because if he is and he likes her when he's big but she does not like him, Teddy will be sad!"

Gellert didn't want Teddy to be sad! He liked Teddy and Rose both whole lots.

But at least lots of people liked Gellert. That made him happier. Thinking about that, he smiled again, concluding optimistically, "If Teddy is sad and we are both big, will you be his girlfriend, Princess Parvati? You are very pretty and nice and clever and truthful too!"

"Yes, Teddy was also an adult," Parvati admitted, feeling more relaxed now she'd told him the whole and he was reacting fairly well to the news. "I think he and Rose are friendly, but I don't know if they're boyfriend and girlfriend as adults," she doubted it, but since Parvati was still getting to grips with who was who in this new world so for all she knew, Rose and Teddy Lupin were carrying on some secret affair!

Gellert's question almost sent her off into whoops of surprised laughter, but she controlled herself, eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well... that all depends on how Teddy feels, he might not want me to be his girlfriend."

Still not entirely sure how he felt about this, Gellert looked at the plate of cookies. How many had he eaten?

...It didn't matter. Nobody was going to tell him he'd eaten too much and he should stop before he got a stomach ache. But his hot chocolate was over! That was very bad and needed to be remedied RIGHT NOT.

Holding the mug out to Parvati, he asked her politely, "Princess, can I have more hot chocolate please? It's very good!"

Eyes lighting up, he told her confidently, "If you make Teddy your cookies and hot chocolate, of course he'll want you to be his girlfriend! You are very pretty and nice and make good cookies and helped with the wedding!"

Parvati also eyed the plate, but since she had made sure there weren't too many, she wasn't that concerned he'd polished off most of the cookies while she only ate two.

"All right, one more mug and then you should have a bath, and start heading for bed," although he was technically an adult, right now he was a child and tired children got cranky. Her mind stirred up a misty memory of sitting in her bed with her children snuggled up against her while she wove a fairytale from her imagination before they fell asleep and she watched them before drifting into dreams as well. Parvati sighed softly as she poured more chocolate from the nearby jug, which was charmed to stay warm. "There you go," she handed him the mug before settling back onto the sofa, tucking her feet up to the side.

"Well, how about we wait and see what Teddy wants when he'd older? If he says he doesn't want a girlfriend and is happy as he is, then there's no need to worry, hm?"

The mention of bed made Gellert automatically yawn, even as he argued as any little kid would, "I am not tired. I can stay up much longer! And I have to go back to Pharaoh Jamses -- like Pharaoh Ramses, except with a j -- house before I take a bath and go sleep anyway. Else he will miss be and be scared for me. And I do not want him to be scared. That would be sad."

Sipping at his hot chocolate contentedly, Gellert leaned his head on the side of the chair and fought to keep his eyes open, "Okay. No worrying about Teddy unless he is lonely. And when I grow up, we will stay friends, yes?"

Parvati smiled inwardly as Gellert yawned and his eyes drooped, but on the outside she nodded seriously, searching her memory for mentions of someone called James. "I'm sure you can and if you like I can contact Pharaoh James and tell him you're okay so that he's not worried."

"Of course we'll still be friends, I would be unhappy if we weren't," Parvati gently slid her arm around his shoulders, shifting him slightly so he could lean against her so he was even more comfortable. She couldn't resist running her fingers through those gorgeous blond curls, humming softly while he drank his chocolate. It was impossible to see him as the fearsome dark lord from history and therefore she didn't feel any concern about assuring her continued friendship.

"Okay." Gellert hid another yawn behind his tiny hand, comforted by the feeling of someone playing with his hair. Kosa did that sometimes too, trying to straighten out his curls. But this wasn't Kosa. This was Princess Parvati!

Princess Parvati was human. And very nice.

Gellert liked the idea of still being friends with her when he grew up.

Setting his cup down, he scrunched up his nose to resist yawning again and let his head fall into her lap. Pharaoh Jamses would come and pick him up. He could fall asleep here for now.

Besides, Parvati was singing a lullaby. Or humming one. So she wanted him to fall asleep, right?

Gellert was more than glad to oblige, drifting off into dreamland with a content smile on his lips, eyes shut and golden eyelashes a pale fringe against his cheeks.

Parvati wasn't intentionally singing a lullaby, it just seemed to happen. The song was an Indian melody, something her mother had sung to her years ago and she hummed it until Gellert was definitely sleeping. Then she carefully reached out her hand for quill and journal to write a note to Pharaoh Jameses, who ever he was. That done, she put the writing materials aside and ran her fingers through Gellert's hair again, smiling down at the adorable picture he made. Her own eyelids drooped and before long Parvati was drifting off to sleep as well, cuddling Gellert against her.
