Who: James, Salazar, Gellert
What: James going to pick up Gellert
When: November 10th (Backdated)
Where: Salazar's Castle
Rating: TBD
Complete: No

James scuffed his converse on the castle steps, staring up at the door with a slight frown. Fixing his wire rimmed glasses, he smoothed his fingers through his wild mass of hair and gave a little sigh. Unlike most spots where he could just...apparate too, this one was a bit more difficult, and had required him to actually put up some effort into finding it. Especially since he didn't just want to randomly appear inside of the Lord of Slytherin's home. That could be bad.

Idly, he wondered how child Gellert would be. If perhaps the man had already succeeded in their goal and managed to, in fact, hug a Dark Lord. It would be a rather amusing feat of Gellert turned out to be the first, and James couln't remember whether or not he had any money wagered on that.

Fixing his robes--soft, brown things that made his eyes seem that much deeper and were lined with a rich gold at the edges--he pressed his lips together and sighed. He could do this. Not like he was, oh, I don't know, meeting the founder of one of the houses of Hogwarts.

Salazar was on his way through the entrance hall to the library when he heard the knock upon the castle's door. He stopped and turned to face it, clapping his hands to open the doors. Beyond, there stood a wizard he did not recognize, and he drew himself up instinctively, narrowing his eyes and squaring his shoulders.

"State your name and your business here," he said evenly.

"James Potter," he stated, trying not to stare wide eyed and hero struck at Salazar. The man looked...looked....

...like his dad! Like his bloody dad! And it made him want to jump up and down and stomp his feet, or else hide or something, because if his dad weren't smiling serenely like a loon he'd be gathering armies of garden gnomes and Merlin, James shouldn't be thinking of that. Besides, Salazar didn't have the bald spot and controlled his curls.

But still!

Clearing his throat, he forced himself to continue. "I am here to pick up Gellert."

Salazar tensed. He recalled speaking to the man's son briefly, for the certainly shared a familial resemblance. "I am reticent to send Gellert with someone unfamiliar to me, James Potter, as I am certain you understand," he said. Silently, he cast Legilimens and carefully skimmed the other wizard's memories. He saw James Potter's death in defence of his family, which certainly counted to his favour, but he also saw flashes of other, older incidents, when Potter and others had tormented Severus Snape, which negated the positive tally.

James Potter was, then, neither hero, nor villain, but the same as all wizards and witches, a blend of light and shadow.

Breaking the spell, he stared James directly in the eye. "As we have never before met, and Gellert is someone I consider an . . . acquaintance of some import, I am sure I do not have to elaborate on what would happen to you, should you turn out not to have his best interests and his care at heart once you leave me home." His tone was mild enough, but his smile was cold.
