From Dark Lord to Babysitter. Why do these things happen to him?
WHO: Gellert, Rose, and eventually Teddy. Parvati'll be in a different thread.
WHERE: Outside Rose's place.
WHEN: Wednesday afternoon
WHAT: Gellert offered to take Rose to see Teddy, then to drop her off with Parvati.
Complete?: Yes.

As promised, Gellert had cookies with him. Chocolate cookies, the size of saucers, were neatly placed next to each other in a white paper bag with the bakery's logo and name on the front -- seeing as his cooking skills were abysmal, Gellert had quickly become acquainted with the various places in the village that sold food. Anything that delivered got bonus points from him since it meant he didn't need to worry about stockpiling food.

He'd also brought three brooms along with him, having put as many cushioning and safety charms as he could on them. He was good at flying, but he didn't fancy having to catch both of them in mid-air should they collide with each other, and Teddy definitely didn't seem the type to worry about playing a game of Chicken. In addition to that, he'd picked up some modeling clay for Teddy and coloring pencils, and a sweet little tiara and set of elbow-knee pads for Rose, black with little red rosebuds in the middles and vines stitched on the sides.

The carpet hovered in the air in front of the door, and Gellert knocked on it briskly, three times as usual.

Rose hummed as she sat on a large leather couch, scribbling on a scrap piece of paper. Everyone was really nice here, but it wasn't her house, and you shouldn't mess with things that weren't yours!

The kneazle was really cute, and Rose happily played with her, but it got boring eventually. That was okay, though, Ganesha was going to come and rescue her, and then they could go play!

Rose squealed at the knock at the door, and raced towards it, nearly tripping over her sari. She found it in the closet and wrapped it about herself as best she could. Rose had to jump a bit to grasp the door knob, but she managed it.

"Ganesha?" Rose asked brightly, smiling up at him.

Used to being the one to nickname others, it amused Gellert that Rose had chosen to give him a nickname. Especially one that referenced a god of wisdom who had an elephant's head! He refrained from touching his nose, instead sweeping her his deepest, most dramatic bow, "At your service, Rose."

He plucked the bag of cookies from behind him and held out to her, giving her an impish grin, "And I believe that I promised you these?"

The scent of the chocolate chip cookies rose from the bag, sweet and warm and heavy. Inside, the cookies were still hot, freshly baked and soft, perfectly chewy with little bits of still-molten chocolate embedded in the dough.

The moment Gellert produced the bag of chocolate chip cookies Rose would have followed her "Ganesha" everywhere. She loved cookies, loved them. And it felt good to disobey her mother...just this once.

Rose happily took the cookies and wasted no time in taking a bite. It was so warm, so chocolatey...mmm...She blinked and bowed slightly, suddenly recalling her manners.

"Sthank joo..." Rose chirped, trying to swallow her cookie at the same time. "Ganesha is a good name for you!" She rocked back on her heels and ooh-ed at the flying carpet. "I can ride?"

"You're welcome!" Rose was an unbearably cute kid. His smile was filled with fondness for her as he reached out and gently tousled her hair, careful not to tangle the curls. Having curly hair himself, he knew how easy it was to get it into a mess!

Shifting back on the carpet, he grinned at her and said, "Yes, you can ride. Or..."

He paused to build up suspense, then dramatically pulled out one of the brooms from behind him, "You can fly! As long as you don't go too far away from the carpet, that is."

Gellert had to quickly add the last bit, wanting to make sure she wouldn't be out of reach for him to catch if she fell.

"A broom!" Rose nearly (but she totally did not as that would be a travesty) dropped her cookies from joy. "I promise to stay close! I'm a good girl!" She hopped a bit in place, somehow managing not to loosen her makeshift saree.

"Can we go, now? I want a starwars!" Whatever that meant.

"We can totally go now and play Star Wars, since I know you'll stay close to me like the good, beautiful girl that you are." Gellert handed the broom over, and held out a hand for the paper bag of cookies.

"Do you want to put that onto the carpet for safe keeping? I promise not to eat them. I'll guard them for you so that you can gulp them all down when we're at Teddy's. Maybe he'll even have some milk for you to have the cookies with." His smile was reassuring, a little teasing. He loved kids partly because of their enthusiasm. Adults always seemed so intent on being cynical and jaded; Gellert liked people who weren't afraid to be passionate, to stand up and shout defiance at the skies and not be afraid of the emptiness that lay behind the night's black pupils.

"Oh, that's a good idea!" Rose said, pausing to stick another cookie in her mouth before giving them to her Ganesha. She paused and wrinkled her nose. "No milk, though. It tastes funny but Daddy makes me drink it anyway..." She quickly finished her cookie and picked up the broom.

"I'm ready, Ganesha!"

She was glad she met him. He was really pretty, too!

Gellert set the bag of cookies down on the carpet and uncrossed his legs, folding them on top of each other in the opposite way. Gripping the edges of the carpet firmly, he gave a nod at her, "Right! Stay on my left side, please, Rose. I'll set the pace and if you want to go faster, tell me and I'll speed the carpet up."

He waited for Rose to mount the broom, then let the carpet rise higher steadily, making sure that Rose came up alongside him. When they were high enough, above the height of the apartment building, Gellert pointed at the direction they would be flying in and let the carpet take off at what wasn't much more than the speed of a human sprinting.

Rose started out a little shaky at first, but quickly adjusted. She loved flying, but daddy was always worried she'd fall. But she was good at it, she knew! She often imagined herself as a powerful garuda, striking her enemies down below!

"Whee! This is fun! Ganesha is great!"

Rose smiled and kicked her feet, singing, "Garuda, Garuda~ I am the king of the skies~"

"Garuda, Garuda ~ I am the king of the skies~" Shamelessly, Gellert joined in the song as he flew the carpet alongside Rose. They weren't going as fast as he usually would, just because he wanted to keep an eye on her and not push her beyond her abilities. Rose was doing beautifully so far, though, so Gellert gave her a bright grin, "You're doing wonderfully, Rose!"

That said, he returned to singing along with her, taking his cue from her as he turned around the corner of the building in a wide curve, pointing to Teddy's window, "Shall we greet him from there?"

"I know, I'm a garuda!" Rose said importantly. Clearly Ganesha knew how to treat a lady and have fun. Maybe he could meet Grampa Vijay sometime! Grampa Vijay was also fun to be around!

"Yes!" Rose peered in the window. "I wonder who this Leia is...he sounded fun! And then we can go to Ms. Parvati's?"

"Yes, we definitely can." Gellert promised her without a second thought. That done, he knocked on the window, the triple quick rap that he'd used to get Rose's attention. He drew back a little on the carpet, making sure that Rose had enough room to see inside as well and that she wouldn't get knocked off the broom if the window was opened suddenly.

Cheerfully, he called out, "Teddy? Rose and I have come to visit you!"

If Salazar was still there, hopefully he hadn't been sleeping under the window or anything like that. Gellert had no wish to give such an old and venerable wizard a heart attack.

Teddy didn't look up from his video games, eyes glued to the large TV and the version of Halo that he had splayed across it. This was a game his Mamen had NEVER let him play, claiming it was too violent and muggle, but no one here stopped him! Biting his lower lip, he called out "HOLD ON!" from where he was hidden in front of the couch. After a long minute, he squealed out in victory and paused it, vaulting over the couch and nearly running into the window.

Purple haired and silver eyed, he rocked wildly on his heels when he saw them, immediately recognizing Gellert from the painting in the bedroom. And the little girl looked familiar too!

"GELLERT!" he squealed wildly, throwing open the window. "HI! I'm playing video games and it's called HALO and Mamen says it's bad and violent which makes it even cooler and I have FOOD and OH MY GOD IS THAT A FLYING CARPET?!" He turned to Rose and in the same breath as every other word "HI! I'm Teddy!" he cried, hair turning pink as he grinned madly.

"Hi!! I'm Rose!" she cheered in reply, nearly bouncing on her broom. "let's play, let's play!"

Rose slipped carefully onto the carpet and shimmies towards the open window. "What'a a Halo? Like an angel halo? And what's a starwars? I'm still Leia, aren't I? Oh, and Mr. Grindelwald God of AWESOME is now my Ganesha."

"Hi, Teddy." Gellert quirked him a grin, tossing the backpack into the room and taking the two spare brooms with him. He glanced over at the video games that he'd been hearing about over the journals, wondering what made them so special, and then held out a broom for Teddy.

"Yes, this is a flying carpet. I like to ride on it instead of a broom but I brought you and Rose both brooms if you want to fly around. And Rose needs you to explain what Star Wars is--"

And so did Gellert, actually, as well as what Halo and Leia were, "--And you look very healthy."

Which was much more than Gellert had been hoping for.

Teddy bounced happily as they stepped in. Literally jumping on the ground, hair flouncing around him as he did, the robes that Salazar had conjured for him comfortable and warm on his skinny frame. "I love brooms!" he exclaimed, then to Rose. "Oh I can show you Star Wars! I have the game too! And a Halo is a game. Come here!" he cried out, dragging the girl around the couch. "See, this is the control, you too, Gellert! I only have two controllers though, but I'll start a new game since you guys haven't played before because I'm about to surpass my high score and I don't want to lose it! But see..." He unpaused the game, and immediately the sound of play restarted, his fingers flying over the buttons as he proceeded to shoot. "You gotta get the bad guys with the guns!" He bit his lower lip as he immediately grew intensely concentrated, with the same look of focus that only boys and gamers get when involved in a separate world. "I'll put in the Star Wars one too and that way you can play Leia and then we can play with real light sabers though they're not real because you can die by real ones. It says so in the movie! And Gellert, the picture that was painted of you is back in the corner and you should look at it because it looks like you only more like a girl!" He paused the game and looked to Rose, holding out the controller for her. "Wanna try?"

Rose, of course, had no idea what he just said, but she was certainly willing to try anything new! She grasped the controller and poked at the buttons curiously.

"Okay! I'll kill the bad guys! Like a garuda!" Rose smiled at Teddy, "light sabers are like swords, right? Yay! And Ganesha is pretty like a girl." Rose beamed at Gellert, clearly taken with him. But she always got along better with boys anyway.

"Thank you, Rose." Gellert's eyes sparkled with laughter as he tousled her soft waves of hair fondly, and then did the same to Teddy's shorter, brighter hair. "Teddy, you can show me how to play your games later. I'll take a look through your pictures now, if you don't mind."

He actually most wanted to see the image that Teddy had been scared of. His own image could wait; anticipation was a great part of the fun.

Now that the two children was safely on the couch, Gellert headed in the direction that Teddy had indicated, watching Rose and Teddy from his peripheral vision just in case.

The area where Teddy painted as an adult was still set up, the picture of the two wizards, nude, covered only by a sheet half finished. As Teddy had said, one was indeed touching the lips of the other. It was only completed from the ribs up on each of them, leaving the more interesting bits vague at best, done in thin pencil sketch and waiting to be filled in.

On the floor were the paintings that Teddy had found and had brought down. The one of Gellert was on the top; indeed, a painting of the blond presented as none other than the Morning Star, looking victorious and ecstatic ruling over the flames of hell. Directly behind it was the picture of the pregnant woman, skin a dark, dark brown and eyes the most stunning of gold. She was beautiful, sitting profile and holding a baby in front of her, and there was utterly nothing threatening about her, except the matching eyes to Teddy's own. But it was the one that had made him afraid; the one with the monster behind her eyes.

It was also the only one with a trace of enchantment, and it was obviously not Teddy's powers (as Gellert would know the feel of them by now) that let her move. It was weak here, and the child would smile at it's m other, or she would periodically flick a glance out of the portrait, but that was it.

Teddy didn't pay attention once Gellert was gone, instead leaning against Rose's side and peering at the controller. "Okay, you wanna push that one to shoot, and that one causes them to jump and run. use that to control where they move! Now those are the people you wanna kill," he said, pointing at the screen. "Just push buttons and you'll get the hang of it!"

Rose leaned against Teddy as well, briefly resting her cheek on his shoulder as she mashed buttons like crazy.

"Wow, they are dying! Guns are awesome! Bang!" Rose squealed as her character ran in crazy circles, firing haphazardly. "Teddy needs a nickname, too! I shall call him...hmm...Hanuman! Teddy is now my Hanuman! Ha! And now my enemy dies in a blaze of fury and SHAME!"

It was exhilirating, to be honest! After spending all her days working on her Hindi and singing and dancing properly, the opportunity to vent her energies into flying and smiting her foes was wonderful! She hoped her parents wouldn't find her anytime soon!

Strange. Gellert didn't see anything in the woman to fear. He studied her face, her eyes, looking for anything in them that would scare him and found nothing.

But his fears were not Teddy's fears so after a moment of wondering who had cast the enchantment on the picture, he passed it by and looked at the image of himself instead. A smile quirked his lips at the concept, then he grew thoughtful, appreciating the skillful execution and barely able to restrain himself from reaching out to run his fingers over it.

Instead, he tossed over his shoulder, "I'm going to talk with Sir Slytherin, you two. Be good and don't get on those brooms until I get back!"

Gellert wanted to thank Salazar personally, as well as continue the discussion they'd been having over the journals.
