Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:fred weasley, george weasley

Who: Fred (jr), George and Fred Weasley.
When: January 5th, noon.
Where: At Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes.
Why: Fred talked to his father via journals and was invited to pay a visit to the shop to talk about stuff. Little did he know what awaited him.
Rating: PG13, at most.
Complete: Yes!

Fred was amazed of how easily one could get lost on that place. Fairly enough, it did hold a resemblance with the 'world of the living', but he couldn't help but wander around; it was in his adventurous nature.

He, eventually, found the joke shop, it almost looked exactly like he remembered but he also could feel there was something new about it; it just had this fresh, eerie air.

Passing a hand through his recently dyed hair (which now had a soft brownish shade), he stepped into the shop; passing his gaze around the place before calling for someone.

"Um, hello?"

"Oi, one moment!" came a voice that was all-so-familiar-yet-different all at once. It was exactly George, but only with the hint of difference to the order of his words and the cheeriness with which he spoke. A bit more outgoing. Only someone with a trained ear would be able to tell the difference.

Hopping out from the back, he pulled off his gloves, his wild red hair falling in front of his eyes and freckles standing in stark contrast to pale skin. "Welcome to Weasley's mate! New arrival?" he asked, before pausing. The boy looked...bleeding familiar. Frowning, he seemed a bit confused, before he realized where he knew him from. The water he had used to watch his brother.

Oh no...ohnonononononononono... But this was his nephew. There was no way the boy would come to take away his brother. There wasn't some grand cosmic plot to remove George from his life. It was just something that was bound to happen. Little Fred would come along and George would get to know him again and remember that he had grown up and--

--no, he had more faith in his brother than that. Instead, he swallowed back his panic and grinned a smile he didn't really feel. "You're Fred Jr. aren't you?"

Fred couldn't help but stare at the person that was standing in front of him. He had recognized him, of course, he had seen too many bleeding pictures of him. He did, however, think for a split second it could've been his father as well, he could've de-aged like himself. But this person seemed so... happy. Unlike all his memories he had from his father, he could just not relate the image.

"Y-yeah." He stuttered a little, immediately wanting to kick himself. He was not a kid, for heaven's sake! He should be able to control better his voice; even if it felt so bizarre to be speaking with the person he had resented most of his life. Fred knew he should greet him, say something polite but the words simply didn't come out from his mouth. He cleared his throat. "Is my... father here?"

Fred hadn't been able to watch the whole life of George and his son, but he knew enough to know that Fred Jr. probably didn't like him very much. And while he was vaguely surprised that the boy was able to tell them apart, he also could see by the strange way the youth was eying him that Fred was not the first person he wanted to see. Obviously, the thought a little nervously to himself. His brother's son didn't like him. He could deal. They'd...they'd find a way or something.

"Yeah...lemme go get him," he said, throat a bit constricted with panic and...was that hurt? Was he hurt by this? Oh, really now. Pressing his lips together, he rushed into the back of the shop. "GEORGE!" he shouted, trying to put as much distance between him and the other boy as he could. "Forge! Get your bloody arse down here, you lazy twit! You got offspring in the shop wanting to see you!"

"Shut up, Gred!" Was the quick response, followed by several sounds of throwing things aside; then the sound of someone rushing downstairs. "I'm not lazy, I've been picking up the dirty clothes that someone left all over the place, you twat." He was finishing that phrase when he emerged into the shop.

He practically stopped on his tracks as he noticed the other boy standing before him, a full wave of familiarity hit him as soon as he saw him, the intensity of the feeling almost made him want to throw up. He never stopped smiling, though, but the tension of the room was almost enough to wipe his smile away.

"Oh, hey." He greeted unintenlligently. He almost facepalmed for his own stupidy. Relax, George. "Well... first thing first, yeah? Though I think you already met each other... well, know.. um, but yeah. Fred this is um, Fred." He started babbling in a lame, desperate attempt to ease the awkwardness. "We might have a problem with that." He added as he spoke the names aloud.

Fred almost gaped at how-- identical they looked. Of course he had seen a lot of pictures but this.. it just wasn't the same. The similaritiies were astounding, they looked the same down to the last freckle. It vaguely reminded him of his own sons.

He was very surprised to see how young his father looked, so full of life. He couldn't recall a single moment where he had seen him smile so widely. Not even one.

"I guess you can always call me Arthur too," he commented as he shrugged, trying to sound cool about the awkward situation. On the back of his mind there was a small voice reproaching him that he shouldn't be acting so edgy with his uncle; he had already come to terms with his father, right? He grew up and he was supposed to act maturely. "Hi." He finally greeted his uncle, offering the best small smile he could muster.

Fred hated seeing George nervous, and he rested a comforting hand on his brother's shoulder as his twin spoke. Then he turned to the nephew, his own lips pressed tight in some unseen emotion as he observed him. He didn't speak for a few long moments, assessing Fred. Jr from the top of his head down to his feet, taking him in with eyes that went beyond regular observation to pure cunning and something...almost wickedly cruel. A bit of him that seemed less than pleasant. Shrewd, would be the best term for it. Finally he rested back up to his hair and held his hand out for Fred, as if he approved of what he saw, another smile, this one much easier, pulling at his lips.

"You can call me Gred or Fred," he stated, offering him the nickname he only let his brother use. Mostly because this was the son of his brother, and really, if he had been there, he would have lavished attention on the boy and loved him as much as he had loved his twin. "One question though. Why the brown hair? It's not natural, is it? Never met a Weasley with brown hair."

The younger Weasley would be lying if he said the look his uncle was giving him didn't made him nervous. It was as if he was all the way back to be a teenager again, trying to prove himself, to fulfil all the expectations the people had of him, to try to get away from his name's shadow.

It made him frown.

However he quickly pushed back all those feelings and accepted the offered hand. "Pleased to meet you." He said politely, weirdly enough feeling a small flip flop on his stomach as he looked directly into his uncle eyes. There was just... something about him that made him feel ease, carefree. It was strange. "It's not of course," he said answering the question about the hair. "Why? Because it was the first color I grabbed." He shrugged. "It won't be this color for too long, though."

"Good," Fred said at the mention of it not lasting. "You're a Weasley. Red looks best on us." He grinned warmly, the smile seeming to take over all of him, all hints of anxiety gone from his eyes. This was his nephew. This was a boy who had been confused growing up. He wasn't here to take away George.

Another touch to his brother's arm, this on a reassurance, that seemed to speak I'm here, You're safe, and I like him all at once.

George felt honestly content to see they kind of started to get along, and when he felt Fred's support and approval he couldn't stop himself from smiling. At least they hadn't started bickering at each other, yet (and he seriously hoped they would not in any near future). George couldn't explain it but he felt deeply fond to this boy; the familiarity, the mannerisms, everything. All his doubts and worries were suddenly gone; everything felt just natural. "I wouldn't have thought you'd dye your hair." He commented, sounding a lot more cheerful than when he first spoke.

"I just like to change it." Fred shrugged in response. He had been watching carefully, without noticing, the way they treated each other, trying to decipher their secret body language. At some point he could tell they were talking to each other secretly; he had seen that a couple of times with his own sons so one could tell he was used to it. A sincere smile escaped his lips as the image of his father being truly happy finally hit him; he was a little surprised that he didn't felt any kind of ill feelings, nor reproach. He felt glad they had came to good terms back again when they were alive.

"I've been dying my hair since I was fifteen, dad." He said in a casual tone.

George's smile faltered a little as he heard that, putting aside that it felt holy weird to be called 'dad'. It was simply the familiarity of how Fred addressed to him. He soon felt a terribly twinge of pain to realize that he didn't share any of that memories with him anymore. The only thing he had was an image of how his son looked like, and the fondness he felt.

"About that..." He trailed of and bit his lower lip a little, he didn't know how to say it; it always sounded so curel in his mind no matter how he said it. He unconciously leaned a bit more towards his twin for support.

Fred frowned at his brother's discomfort, and immediately hooked an arm around his shoulders, tugging him a bit closer and letting him lean on him for support. Turning to look to Fred Jr., Fred pressed his lips together. "Your dad...when he came here for some reason he couldn't remember much," he explained, voice slow and gentle. "I have a lot of the things I watched that I can show him, and maybe you could help with the memories, but he recalled a few while sick." Fred looked pleadingly to his nephew, begging the boy to not be angry at George. "It's not really his fault. He just woke up without them. I can attest to that."

But Fred didn't look angry at the explanation, just plain confused. "But how can that be?" He asked, immediately recalling what a person told him over his journal; about adquired mental diseases or something, he couldn't quote it correctly on his mind. The fact of seeing how close his father and his twin seemed to be didn't seem to affect him, it felt pretty natural on his point of view.

George suddenly let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding before finding his voice again. "I don't know." He admitted. "I only have memories of my life up to my twenties, barely a couple of months after Fred-- well," he paused, trying to find the right words but wanting more than anything to just turn around and hide his face on his brother's neck. He took a small deep breath as he tried to gather himself back. "I not sure of why I don't remember anything of that part of my life, but I still can recall some thing; not clearly but..." Another pause. "I might not remember anything about you or your... mother," he swallowed. "But I just-- deep inside I cannot just act indifferent towards you; I know I care, so somehow one can still say I 'remember', yeah?"

Fred brushed his fingers over the back of George's neck, then rested his hand on his upper back. A continuance of contact letting the other know he wasn't alone, long fingers lightly tangling into the back of his robes in quiet support.

"Part of it is my fault," Fred said quietly. "He remembered some stuff while he was sick but I didn't tell him what I knew." Shrugging a little bashfully, he gave a slightly nervous smile. "He was sick though, yeah? I figured he needed a bit of time to adjust and--" I wasn't ready to lose him yet "--I didn't know you'd be getting here so soon. Didn't realize how time flowed and all that."

Fred thought carefully of the situation that was presented to him; he was desperate to find a reason to explain why one person would forget most of his life after dying, it still didn't made too much sense to him.

Suddenly the memory of his wife surfaced in between his rush of thoughts. His wife had been a muggle born coming from a rather catholic family; while that never bothered Fred he always wondered why she insisted to pass his beliefs to their sons when her own family had banished her as soon as they found out she was a witch.

He remembered how she used to tell stories about the wonderful life it awaited to men if they behaved and did good on their lives; a promised land to the man by a God that Fred did not know, the promise to finding happiness for all eternity.

Fred blinked as the answer finally struck him violently. Eternal happiness. Of course, his father was now completely happy, he practically radiated from it; he had never saw him anywhere near this state in life, maybe a few glimpses every now and them when he came to visit with his family but that was it. 'Because he was not happy.' Yes. Indeed his father seemed to lose all his shine after his twin's death. He always had been told of how they used to be, but he never saw his father act like that; he had tried, yes, but it was not even close of how radiant he looked right now.

It was just obvious that his father wouldn't want to keep memories in which he had been miserable, if afterlife was supposed to be like his wife portrayed it; it was only natural for his father to chose the happy memories and live on his own personal heaven.

Even if he understood now it didn't stop him from feel a strong sense of betrayal. He was hurt that his father didn't contemplate him as part of his happiness; a bitter voice on his mind telling him he shouldn't had been surprised, he had been an unwanted child. He felt anger for being so easily dismissed out of a person's life, a memory recycled because it simply wasn't important enough to remember.

And he had the most selfish thought of wanting to destroy that happiness. If this was the promised afterlife his wife talked so much about, why wasn't he feeling happy as well? Maybe this place was simply hell for himself. Remorse soon engulfed his senses as his thoughts reached that point; it was probably punishment for all the terrible things he did to his father. Why would a person want to remember such a horrible son?

Even if he had experimented so many emotions on that sort time of silence, his face remained emotionless. He took a sigh and looked at his father.

"I understand." And it wasn't a lie. He understood the reason behind it, why he was not part of that image of happiness nor was welcome to it. He just couldn't accept it yet. "I just drop by to see how you were doing." He added, his hands clinging to the end of his shirt as he much used to do when he was young. "I'll just get going now." He just really need to get out of that place.

Simply by looking at the shirt tugging, George knew the boy wasn't feeling comfortable. He probably had been hurt with the revelation, and George couldn't blame him. He would've been hurt too if an important member of his family suddenly just forgot about him; he didn't wanted to even think how it'd be like if his twin forgot about him.

His stomach twinged in pain as his son announced he was leaving. He didn't felt he had the right to retain him, it wasn't like he was being his actual father anymore; Fred Jr. wasn't a kid either, he might look younger but he had grown and was most likely mature enough to take his decisions. He didn't want this to end in a fight. He felt so foreign to tell him what to do. He just stood there in silence mouthing an 'okay'.

Fred looked irritated, seeing his brother's pain and the son's sudden mirrored image. Oh, Merlin, they were just like the other! He knew that look from when George got uncomfortable in the past! Lightly squeezing his brothers shoulder, he quickly moved away and dodged around the counter, hooking his arm around Fred Jr's shoulder's in a hold that clearly spoke a you're not going anywhere.

"You know, your da got a whole life time with you, and I think I want just a few minutes. Would that be okay with you?" Grinning wildly, there was nothing that seemed mean spirited or vile about him, or even like he was plotting. Though he seemed more overwhelming, his arm warm and caring around the boy yet firm. "Come on." Giving him a light tug, he moved to the door, and said quietly to him, "Just a minute, please?" in a tone meant only for his ears alone.

The brunet was clearly surprised by his uncle's sudden actions, being taken a back from the sudden familiarity he was being treated with; it left him that weird feeling in the pit of his stomach again. He blinked at the question, what else could he say? It's not like he could refuse... okay maybe he could but he knew he should not. He decided to ignore the immature part of him and nod, letting the red head to lead the way after throwing a last glance into his father's direction.

Fred came to a stop outside, waiting until the door was totally closed before leading him away from the glass front of the shop. "Listen," he said quietly, sounding serious. It was with obvious reluctance that he let go of the boy, his hand still lingering on his shoulder. This was his nephew.

His nephew.

"Your father is a good man," he said quietly, not wanting to be overheard on the street. "He's dreamed of you, and called your name. For whatever reason, he forgot most of his life, but he still remembers you, and knows you. That's more than some people here can say for any of their life." Studying his features, he gave a soft sigh. "I want to get to know you, yeah? You're family. Don't...." He swallowed hard, looking awkward. "George was always more into the whole family thing than I was. Yeah, I adored mum and all that, but he was someone who...well...he wanted family. And I hated watching him in the waterfall because all I could think was that he had it and it was hurting him, and that it wasn't with me..." He let go of Fred's arm, shoving his hands into his pockets and looking away, blinking rapidly.

"This isn't going like I planned," Fred sighed, scrubbing a hand over his face. "I'm not good at this sort of thing. Just..... Please, please give him a chance?"

Even if it was a little blunt and awkward, listening to what his uncle was saying made warmed him up. It made him understand his father a little more. Even if he still held that grudgy feeling in the back of his head (It was simply not easy for him to let go of so much he had been holding all of his life), he felt really glad he had meet his uncle. Finally.

He raised an eyebrow at a part that his uncle had seemed to regret saying. He didn't give it too much thought, however, as he noticed that the memories where his father looked truly content was when he visited him with his sons. He vaguely wondered how it would've been if his uncle wouldn't have died. He wasn't even sure if he still would've been born, but if he had... it definitely would've been nice.

He decided he wanted to stick around with them; perhaps it was a selfish thought but hey, he wanted to pursue his own happiness as well. "I said I understood," he started, tugging lightly the end of his shirt. "And I know he is good and that he does remembers me unconsciously but I just-- I can be a little selfish too." It was surprising how open he could be with the man standing in front of him, he just had... this effect on himself. "I'll keep visiting if that's what you're asking for, I just never were much of a pranker." He shrugged, offering a sheepish smile.

Fred visibly relaxed, nodding his gratitude. Listening to the words, he rocked his feet--a sure sign he was excited and happy, his hands immediately dropping from being wrapped around himself and clapping together with joy. "Good, good! And you understood but you didn't. YOU, my boy, are just like your father--" Merlin, George was a father! "--in how you look when you're upset and trying to hide it. You get this twitch to your fingers and this slight shadowing to your eyes right--" he motioned the lower left hand side of the boy's eyes "--here. It's like part of you goes to hide." Grinning, he gave a shrug. "And who cares if you're not a prankster. You're family. And your his son and my nephew. Yes, it would have been convenient to be able to pass the store on to family, or sons or daughters, but it's not a requirement for love. Merlin, you got your head mixed up."

Bouncing a bit, he moved back beside him and hooked an arm around him in a warm sign of affection. "And we can do more than prank. Least I think I can. Just don't ever listen to your uncle Ron about me. He says vicious things. Nasty things. And he dances naked. Be careful when looking into the waterfall and your families lifes. I did that with Ron. I tried to blind myself. Go in and make your father feel better now. He's petrified."

Fred never even seemed to realize just how disconnected his speech was.

Fred almost gaped, again, at the whole explanation his uncle had given him. It was shocking how easily he figured him out, the only person that had done that (at least until now) had been his wife. And he was wholly disturbed as well as he had been when she had told him.

His head felt a little light and dizzy as the redhead kept talking; he didn't noticed at which moment he had been drawn into a half hug again. He, honestly, didn't understand a word the other man started to say at first, he only caught the mention of his uncle Ron and the word 'naked'. It made him shiver.

Surprisingly enough his only response was to let out a light, casual laugh. This man was something. "Uncle Ron doesn't says bad things about you," he commented. "In fact his stories can get a little funny. Though the information about his naked dancing habits was so uncalled for." He sighed and threw a look to the shop, shoving his thumbs on his jean's pockets. "You know, my sons would've loved to meet you. Specially a pair that, I'm sure, would've been delighted to take care of the shop." He nodded at Fred before heading back to the shop. It vaguely felt like that time when he had seen his father for the first time in years.

George had followed them both with his eyes as they went out the shop; he wanted to follow but knew it probably wasn't the best thing to do, not now. He sighed, taking off his gaze from their silhouettes behind the door glass.

He felt a wave of apprehension engulf his heart, make it shrink painfully. He should've expected this, in fact he did expect it. He always had valued family the most, but this... is wasn't anywhere better of when Perce had denied his family ties with them all. Even if he didn't have a full control over his memories. He wanted to tell himself that it wasn't like he had chose to lose them, but somehow he wasn't so sure of it.

He had been so lost on his thoughts that the bell that announced a costumer entering the shop startled him. He blinked up and found himself looking at his son again. He swallowed and stayed still, as in awaiting for the final judgment.

The current image of his father was a high contrast to how he had seen him earlier. Somehow now it looked a lot more how he remembered from when he was alive. He quickly decided he didn't want to see him like that anymore, not again. He took a couple of steps towards him, stopping right in front him. He passed a nervous hand through his hair before deciding to speak; he wasn't good for speeches either, he always had been so klutzy to say out loud his feelings. It was a wonder how his wife managed to understand him when he confessed.

"I'd visit you and my uncle. I'll try it to be as often as possible, if you want me to." He shrugged. "Not because I'd feel obliged to, but because I'd want to." He clarified, taking a long pause before simply smiling up. "And you know, smiling suits you better."

George felt a warm nice feeling washing him all over, overwhelming him almost to the tears. He chuckled, his tone trembling with emotion. "Of course I'd want, you prat. Get over here." Without thinking it twice he shortened the space between them and trapped his son into a slightly tight hug. He might not remember everything down to the most minimal detail, but he just knew this was only natural for him. It was alright.

He hadn't really expected the hug, however he welcomed it and returned it- at least for a little while. "Ugh, Daaad, enough with the man hugging already." He said, almost pouting. He had let his teenaged braincells taken over his mind for a bit as the request sound almost like a whine. "It's embarrassing." His tone was playful, light and casual; it was his way to let he know things were okay between them. What can be better than a small joke to get rid of the awkward?

Fred snickered at them, then quickly tried to cover it up, doing his best to stay hidden. He loved his brother, and he knew he would wind up loving his nephew as well, but for now he had to give them time and let them become accustomed to each other. Didn't mean as soon as George was gone, he wasn't tackling his brother and immediately reminding himself that George wasn't going to grow up and go away.
