Fest Guidelines and Rules
Welcome to [info]santas_lap!! This is a holiday fest specifically for HP chan slash.
If you're interested in participating in the fest, please read the community guidelines & rules.

The 2007 fest is prompt-based. In a few days, a post will follow that invites anyone to submit prompts and scenarios for the fest. Participants will then be able to claim the submitted prompts to use as a guide for their work. I've outlined the general process, rules, and timeline below. Please read it carefully if you'd like to participate.

General Rules

  • You must be at least 18 years old in order to participant in the fest. When the prompt claims post goes up, participants will be asked to include an age statement as well as their prompt choice.

  • This is a chan slash fest; therefore, your submission must contain slash related content and it must feature chan in some way. For the purposes of this fest, I'm defining chan as a relationship between an adult and a minor under the age of 16 (current age of consent in Britain). How young you make the minor beyond that is completely up to your comfort level. Mixed gender threesomes are okay so long as the threesome combination is male/male/female and the male characters are interacting with each other as well as the female. Exceptions made, of course, for the Giant Squid, who can be any gender you'd like as long as you're writing me channish squid porn.

  • All ratings are accepted. Please use MPAA rating guidelines (G through NC-17) when posting.

  • Fics must be at least 1,500 words; art must be, er, more than a sketch. There is no upper word limit. All work must stand alone and not be part of an existing series (unless, of course, you're prepared to write or draw the whole series for the fest).

Prompt Suggestions

  • A post soliciting prompt suggestions will go up on September 3rd. If I don't get much response, I'll likely supplement the list so there's a good selection for folks to choose from.

  • Anyone can submit prompts/scenarios--participants and lurkers--so even if you don't have the time or inclination to participate, you can still post prompts for other folks to write.

  • The prompts should be situations, scenes, or words that you think would be an interesting jumping off point for a participant. They can include characters but they should not include pairings.

  • People can post up to 5 suggestions.

Prompt Claiming

  • Prompts will be open for claiming on September 10th (midnight GMT) and remain open until September 16th (midnight GMT).

  • All those interested in participating must comment with their preferred prompt and an age statement.

  • You may claim your own suggested prompt if you'd like, but you're encouraged to choose something different.

  • There is a maximum limit of 2 claims per prompt. I'll try my very best to keep the prompt list updated, but I must sleep sometimes.

  • How close you stick to your prompt is entirely up to you.

Submissions

  • Participants may post their submissions to the comm beginning on November 30th and may continue posting until December 25th. On December 26th, the master list will go up.

  • Submissions must be posted on the community itself (no links to personal journals) and are exclusive to the community until the fest is complete and the master list is posted. Please don't post your submissions elsewhere on the internet until the fest is over!

  • Long fics and art that are in need of off-comm hosting can be emailed to me via the mod account (santas.lap at gmail.com) and will be hosted on my website until the fest is over.

  • Late submissions are accepted though, of course, not preferred.

  • Fics must be beta read. If you are having trouble finding a beta, please let the me know and I'll see what I can dig up.

  • All fest submissions must be posted with the following header template:

    Title:
    Author:
    Pairing(s):
    Rating:
    Warnings (if any):
    Summary:
    Prompt:
    Author Note (if any):

  • In the subject line, please include whether your submission is fic or art, the title, and the pairing. For example: Fic: The Games We Play (SS/HP, SS/RL).

  • A chan warning is assumed on all submissions throughout the fest, so you do not need to warn explicitly for it; however, you must still warn for anything else (e.g., non-con, abuse, character death, incest, etc.). Whited-out (i.e., 'highlight to show') warnings are fine if you would like to give readers the option of not looking.

  • All submissions should be cut tagged. Only the header should remain outside the cut tag. If you don't know how to do a cut tag, email me for help or read the instructions here.

  • Please turn off all weird Microsoft Word auto-format options. This includes Smart Quotes and automatic dash fixes. (Options to turn these off are in the Tools/AutoCorrect Options/Auto Format As You Type tab.) They play havoc on IJ posts and it's just cleaner to have them off.

General Timeline

September 3rd--Prompt suggestions open
September 9th--Final day to make prompt suggestions
September 10th--Prompt claims open (midnight GMT)
September 16th--Final day to sign up for fest and claim prompts (midnight GMT)
November 30th to December 25th--Fest submission posting period
December 26--Master List Posted

I think that's it.
If you have any other questions or concerns, you can comment here or email me at santas.lap at gmail.com!

Ad Baculum

With slash do you only mean male/male or does femslash work too?

*grins* It was sorely needed! There hasn't been a proper chan fest in years and that's just wrong.

Would you consider, along with "adult and minor in a relationship," the condition of "two minors in a relationship" as acceptable for the this fest, or no?

I think for this fest I'm going to stick with adult/minor. I thought about including minor/minor, but decided to keep it simple.

Just because I am thick, I am going to ask. Can an entry have along with an Adult/minor pairing, have minor/minor pairings as well? My prompt (#37) sort of lends itself to having adults and minors ponying up to the bar, as it were.

Sorry to be so thick? It's a curse

Yes, as long as it has an adult/minor pairing in it, it can also have minor/minor. :)

Should we finish a story after September 16th, but well before November 30th, would it be possible to take on a second prompt, even in the claim time is up?

Assuming that prompt hasn't been taken already by 2 other people, yes, you may. :)

Great! I've been a chan mood lately for some reason, but I'd rather go at it one story at a time.

Will posts be locked? I want to know if I should join or watch the comm in order for our [info]sirius_news editors to pick up the posts on our watcher flist.

Posts will not be locked. You can feel free to just watch the comm if you're not going to be participating. :) Thanks!

Uh this is a head's up.

I'm running into major time constraints.

I'm taking my gre's and applying to grad school. The problem is that I procrasinated too much and I thought I would have plenty of time to work on things. One of the depts I'm applying for changed it's deadline from Jan 5th to Dec 15th. Which wouldn't be a problem except the gre's need two weeks to turn in grades and this pushes my test date up nearly three weeks so I have to study my ass off.

I'm not quiting out. So don't worry about that.

I'm just having a problem finding a beta (I'm a newbie writer) and I may have to wait until after my test to finish the fic. So that means my fic might not be done til the middle or late of Dec.

I'm terribly sorry about this but do you think you can help me in finding a beta?

Not a problem. Since you're not sure when you'll finish, let me know when you have a draft and I'll put out a call for a beta. Often people are easier to get if it's right away and they know they have or don't have the time.

I heard word back from the Graduate Coordinator. I can turn in my GRE's grades late.

So I'm going with my first plan; study for a few hours a day and write the fic within the next week or two.

This gives me three additional weeks to study for the test so I can focus more on the fic.

How do you want me to inform you when I have a draft ready?

Sounds good! Just leave me a reply or send an email to santas.lap at gmail when you finish. Either way I'll get it.

It is my deep regret that I can't finish my fic and finish it in an hour.

I was trying my hardest to finish the damn thing and I thought the deadline was the 26th.

*sighs*

My life has gone to hell in the past couple of months and I never had time to work on it until this past week. I thought I had enough time.

I am so deeply sorry. I was under the impression I still had one more day.

I've never missed a deadline like this before.

I probably should have contacted you, but I was determined to not bow out to not say die.

It really pisses me off that I couldn't do this.

And I am horribly ashamed that I couldn't finish it.

I'm going back to work on it, so in case you still want it, I can give it to you, but I still don't have a beta. I'm only a few hundred words away.
I had planned a much longer story, but when I realised how crunched the time limit was I thought I would cut it off at a stopping point and just write a sequel.

I'm nearly at my stopping point and there's less than hour before the end of the 25th and I still don't have a beta reader...

I feel like a failure and I'm terribly ashamed at my inability to finish this. Life just swarmed me and my family and things just went from bad to horribly worse and I had practically no time to work on it.

I'm nearly done to my stopping point only a few hundred words left... So when I finish it I will still send it to you, if you still want it.

I found a friend of mine to read over it.

I'm nearly done.

So I'm going to try to post it this early morning anyways.

If you still want you leave it up, if not, you can't it down.

I won't be insulted if you choose to take it down, since I failed to uphold on my end of the bargain.
