The noise of somewhat hushed voices, of curious chatter, of calling back and forth between the long House tables combined in the Great Hall of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to produce something of a dull roar in the late evening. It was July 25, 2020, midway through Summer Hols, long before the start of Fall Term, and yet, the castle was far from empty. The students had been called back, owls delivered to parents and families informing them of the change, a new initiative put into place so that the students would be kept safe, and have a more 'enhanced' education -- that was the official word from the Ministry and the School, in any event.

Headmaster Filius Flitwick addressed the students, clearing his throat with a light 'squeak.'

"Good evening, students!" he began, perched atop a step so that he had more of an authoritarian, attention-calling voice. "It is good to see you all once again, though I wish the circumstances were better. You are all here to be kept safe; you are our future, and we are doing everything we can in the face of these dark times to protect you. We are not taking any threats lightly, and the Ministry is working feverishly to make things right." He paused, surveying the crowd. "What we are going to do while we are here, however, is make good use of our time together. You are going to have extra time to prepare for examinations, to further your education while you are here. We are taking this very seriously."

He reached into a box, pulling out what appeared, from a distance, to be a book of some sort, dark and leather-bound. "We tried, a bit ago, to introduce a journal project, and we have decided, in light of recent events, to bring it back. We are handing these out once again, for those of you who may have misplaced them, though if you have one, still, you are more than welcome to keep that one, instead. You will be using these throughout the term, as you see fit, and you will be able to connect with one another and express your thoughts and feelings through them. Certain things can be kept private, or shared with a select few, as I am sure you will find out, in time, and again, staff members have been invited to participate, as well, and to incorporate them, if they would like, into their curricula."

"We hope that you will find your time here enjoyable, as always. This is your home away from home, students, and we are glad to have you back!" he concluded, cheery in his demeanor as Flitwick always tried to be. "Thank you, and enjoy the rest of the Feast!"

Owls delivered to all families of Hogwarts students

Owls delivered to all families of Hogwarts students.
20 July 2020

Dear parents and guardians of Hogwarts students:

This letter is to inform you that, pursuant to the orders of the Ministry of Magic and the Hogwarts Board of Governors, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will be opening its doors for a summer term beginning next week.

Included is a list of supplies that your student will need for the term, as well as a list for the upcoming school year. This time will be used to more extensively prepare them for examinations, as well as to further enhance their Wizarding education, based on Ministry guidelines. We are also planning on enhancing security precautions at the school, and geared toward making sure that students stay safe and sound in these trying times.

Students are expected to board the Hogwarts Express on Friday morning and arrive at the school that evening. They will receive instructions and specifics pertaining to their courseload upon their arrival.

We anticipate a vacation break at before the beginning of Fall classes, and students will have the option of returning to their homes, or remaining at Hogwarts for the interim. All efforts will be made to make the transition seamless and facilitate things for the students.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, and we look forward to the return of our students,

Filius Flitwick
Headmaster

Water contamination scheme foiled!
By RITA SKEETER
Special Correspondent

LONDON -- The efforts of extremists to poison the water lines at Diagon Alley were exposed early this morning, by efforts of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. More information is forthcoming from the Ministry, but at this time, it is believed the act is tied to the same renegade group associated with the St. Mungo's plot. [CONTINUED ON 10A]

Hogwarts to Reopen for Summer Term
LONDON -- The Ministry of Magic has announced, in cooperation with the Hogwarts Board of Governors, that the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will be opening its doors to students for a Summer Term. A source close to the plan said it is part of a very serious reaction and hard line stance by the Ministry on the foiled water contamination scheme.
"This has raised questions of security and safety, and we must act to insure our future and keep the students safe," a Ministry spokesman said. "The students will be allowed to return home for a brief period between the end of the Summer Term and the beginning of the Fall Term, but we are going to use this time to prepare them for what lies ahead."
Parents are asked to bring their school-aged children to Kings Cross Station on Friday morning, at the usual time, where the students will board teh Hogwarts express. [CONTINUED ON 2A]

Introduction

Friday, 9 May 2020.
It was something like what typical Friday afternoons had become at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Long gone were the days of Albus Dumbedore, distant was the time of Harry Potter; imagined, almost, it all seemed. The school that once played host to the brightest Wizarding minds of Britain had become far more selective in its admittance. With the times so too had changed laws, expectations, and the norms deemed acceptable by society. Wizarding Britain had returned to its more selective, elitist roots. Purebloods of high society ruled the day, under a new order: that of the new Knights of Walpurgis.

They had started out simply enough. A small group banded together, lamenting the fallen Death Eaters and philosophy of the first Dark Lord. They took the name of the original Death Eaters, their predecessors and inspiration. And it had grown. They had forged alliances, taken the highest government posts, controlled the courts, monitored the people, and deemed what was acceptable and good. Their ideology had grown and intertwined itself with the political and social realities of Wizarding Britain. There was a new Dark Lord now, and a new order, under the New Knights of Walpurgis.

But like this new dark force, so too came a new resistance. The Order of the Phoenix had risen from the ashes, and those who sought to set things right, to put into place a more just system, had come together for the cause.

Many paid with their lives. But the Order is still out there. Like the Knights of Walpurgis, it lives on.

Attendance at Hogwarts has become limited to students descended from Wizarding, or partly-Wizarding families. The curriculum has taken a new turn, with a Wizarding-superior slant, and greater discipline and enforcement of rules. Gone are the days of "nitwit oddment blubber tweak!" The years since Professor Filius Flitwick had become Headmaster of Hogwarts School had been difficult and long, wrought with difficult times through and through.

The short headmaster cleared his somewhat squeaky voice, commanding the attention of those present as he rose behind the podium in front of the long faculty table in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. He had a new project for them.

"Good afternoon, students," he said, peering through his spectacles at them. "I trust you have all enjoyed dinner, and are thus far having a wonderful year here at Hogwarts. At the Feast following Spring recess, we announced that a new project was in the works for you, and today we are introducing it to you." He reached into the podium and grabbed what appeared to be a leather-bound book, holding it up. "You will all be keeping journals this year, recording your thoughts, or feelings, or whatever you deem fit. You can use them for notes, or to scribble in. You can use them to connect with one another, to express your opinions and feelings regarding events and share them with each other."

He cleared his throat once more, and spoke. "Indeed, as we hand out the journals, you are invited to personalize them as you see fit, and if there is something you wish to keep private, or only share with certain peers, you can place protections on it. Staff members have been invited to participate as well, and some may choose to do so. In any event, I hope you will all find this a fun and interesting experience, and grow from it."

He paused and glanced around at the curious faces, his short stature elevated by the steps behind the podium.

"The journals will be distributed to you this evening by your Heads of House, and if you do not receive one, we will see to it that you get one in one of your classes later on in the week. Please keep up with them... and do have a pleasant evening and a nice week," he finished, with a slight squeak.
