It was everywhere – the blood.

It seeped through his trembling fingers, caked at his temples, and pooled at his feet.

What have I done? What’s happening?!

His body responded to the carnage at his feet. His blood ran hot and caused blisters to run along his arms. He screamed and tasted metal in his mouth. Red filled his vision and he felt his innards shifting.

Energy roiled around him, burning hot against his skin. He could feel an ancient power filling his soul to the brim, leaving no room for his former life.

It was too late to turn back.

Goku watched with unnatural attentiveness as Nataku examined his wounded arm. The cut wasn’t deep or wide, but it ran the risk of getting infected. After satisfied that the cut wouldn’t require professional attention, Nataku rinsed the blood off. Disinfecting herbs were rubbed into the cut and a bandage was wrapped tightly around the limb.

Still Goku sat there, watching as the now pink water continued to drip off his forearm into the ground below.

“Hey Nataku,” the monkey began, “why do we bleed?”

The war prince caught a drop with his finger. “We bleed just to know we’re alive.”

We have a tie!  Both the Kou-tachi and the Sanzo-ikkou scored 10 points for getting their feet wet last week.  Homura-tachi may be slightly afraid to swim.

This week's prompt is #9 - Blood

Blood is sticky, can be hard to get out of fabric, smells acrid with spilt, yet can bind you to all your kin.  Blood is also said to be thicker than water.  Heck, apparently merciful goddesses can draw blood out through your lips to save lives!  ^_~

No matter how you see it or what you do with it, you must write blood into your 100 words.
