Gold is always the last thing he remembers when awaken.  A color that is similar to the one he sees in the mirror but speak to him, call him, desperately asks that he finds them.

His dreams of acceptance, of laughter, of warmth and joy, turn into red then fades into a blackness that he vehemently tries to drive away.

With the sun comes the daily ritual of food stealing, name calling, fan and bullet dodging, and threats between gritted teeth. And as they head off continuing east, Goku can't help but wonder about warm, sad eyes and his feelings.
