SOOOOOOON
Some things about the environment before we launch! We’ve received some awesome feedback and questions from everyone. To that end, we’ve put together a little guide to the world you’re entering and the mechanics of everything is going to work for a while.
There will be a post without any comments MUCH LIKE THE ONE last night. It will give you information about time, season, etc. This is the time that CURRENT EVENTS will be happening on. Unlike the usual format, we won’t be counting individual days; instead it will be spring, summer, winter or fall, and whether it’s early, middle or late in the season.
We will make more of those posts as the plot progresses, rather than do 14 individualized posts. We love you guys, just not that much. They will be your anchors and mile markers in the timeline.
However, for this first week you are not restricted to this time. It is more of a guide from which you can past date any posts you like. Feel free to hop back in time and thread out anything you like. Or forward date within a month or so, such as visits to other towns or villages. Time for this first period is going to be very, very fluid. You basically have our okay to jump forward or back.
Do you want to play out a Pyxis MANLINESS FESTIVAL? Is it VULPECULA MEAT DAY? Is Monoceros throwing a party for their latest invader? Is ASH RIDING A VELOCIRAPTOR ACROSS THE COUNTRYSIDE? This is a great opportunity to just get in and have FUN with your country and characters, flesh out how things feel and basically enjoy the ideas you’ve come up with since then.
Which brings us to travel. Travel is done on dream mechanics. Even if the distances are technically rather large, feel free to handwave as necessary to get to interesting posts. With time being this fluid, however we ask that you use informative action tags when you drop into things, like tagging into the Vulpecula Meat Day with a [Oh hey, I WAS travelling to Lacerta but shit that smells good.] or [I was here to RETURN EXCEL’S PUNCH TO THE FACE last night and invited to stay.] if you’re not from Vulp. That just gives people a cue to play off of you. Other than that, feel free to travel.
When we start the plot aspect (expect it to begin this weekend coming), we are going to have a more restrictive time frame, but there will be updates as that goes. THIS PERIOD IS JUST FOR ROLLING AROUND IN YOUR WORLD LIKE A HAPPY, HAPPY DOG. We will be.
We will be having a special IJ tag for the event! Please use it on all posts.
JUDGE PLAYERS! Your Judges for right now are gods in the more traditional sense. Distant, and rather hands-offish. For the purposes of this, for now, concentrate on your character(s) and we’ll tap you if we need you for something more active.
Setting! We have given you the basics of what particular countries look like! That’s all we will mandate. From there, you can fill in what you want. What this city looks like, or what kind of paving they use for their roads, where you lived and the back roads/trails you traveled, continues to be all up to you. You will mold it WITH us as we all play. Do you have to? No! Can you if you want to? ABSOLUTELY.
Critters/Plants - the lists that are done are basic guidelines! If you have an urge to make up new and awesome things, HELL YEAH, ping a mod and we can certainly see where things go.
Ophiuchus - Certain people have established a connection with a god, deep and powerful. For doing their will, they are also granted enormous power and respect. It can be more common through some bloodlines than others, but it can really happen to anyone in any country. It is more of a religious sect than anything else. You are basically touched by one god, but who’s to say you wouldn’t obey another if the situation happened? We will have a special role for you later, so stay tuned and enjoy the show as well.
This is a good time to mention that there are some in the previous post. GO check em. And for those that don’t want to lurk in #allthequestions, or who are worried about missing things, there is a gdoc that will be used to log questions and answers that others might find useful. You’ll find it in the Old Sabra folder.
Also, if you have a concern or question, please don’t feel afraid to email a mod or PM one of us if we don’t have a NPM in our nick. We will do what we can to answer as well as we can, and we honestly try to resolve issues the best way that we can.
And finally:
The finalized critter list:
Ash is the amazing artist behind the links. LOVE HER.
Vulpecula
۞ Fatty lizards - scattered migratory herds. Noms ALL THE PLANTS
۞ Dragons - There are only three known in the Vulpecula lands, but all three are old, savvy and way more powerful than you are. No really. Living, breathing forces of destruction. It eats anything it damn well pleases. The three known each have names:
Venna - an enormous green dragon who hunts on the plains. Her arrival is usually only known by the sound of her wings and a growing shadow. The very sight of her stills her prey in mindless fear, and some suspect magic. She has engaged in conversation when very, very full and bored.
Farquip - a regal black scaled dragon that hunts closer to Orion lands. He greatly enjoys conversation and will only eat humans who bore him. He often demands complicated topics and enjoys seeing how much the person can make up on the spot.
That Bastard - No one really knows his name, and he has yet to actually bother to talk to anyone, just eats first. Hence, naming became very simple. A young reddish, gold dragon with a rather snakelike body and feline shape to his head.
۞ Raptors - Pack hunters, usually in groups of three to four, primary diet are Vorns, fatty lizards and Vulps.
۞ Fucking Jackalopes - No one knows what they eat. And no one cares. Vulpecula have a rumor that actually catching and eating one grants you immortality.
۞ Feathered mammoths (Vorns) - A hooved four-legged creature of enormous size. Something in the shape of an elk, but close to the size of an adolescent elephant. Mottled yellow and green straw-like feathers keep it invisible in the tall plains grass. Has a bugling call that echoes when in distress or angry. It charges and headbutts to attack. Herbivore.
۞ Kirrik bug - Two to three inches long, the kirrik bugs are glossy black and oval shaped in general. They make a whistling chirp by vibrating their wings when disturbed, and a swarm of them can be deafening. A favorite food of everything that doesn’t have the balls to go for the big meat. “Bug toothed” should be considered an insult to your everything whether it’s true or not.
۞ Kanat - They resemble nothing so much as gumdrop shaped balls of fur with teeth. They have 6 to 10 legs depending on the species and can roll if panicked. Omnivorous (Scavengers and carrion hunters mostly). Not the best meat but pretty tasty. Decent game ball in a pinch.
۞ Tet - Small rodents with a row of spikes down their spine a tuft of fur at the end of their tail, they are omnivorous, a common pest and the spikes on their back are barbed and snap off easily making stomping on them a generally unwise decision. They are considered disease carriers and but eaten anyway on kabobs. Nothing that a little fire wont fix.
۞ Jawbreakers - (Beauty Pet) This creature is absolutely inedible. You crack through it’s shell and it’s like there are more rocks. Its bones are like steel and it’s claws are not even that useful as weapons. They are like a stone eating stone creature.
Hydra
۞ Currwis - Resembling nothing more than a snake-scaled cat, it is as at home in the murky waters hunting snakes and cray as it is in the trees hunting tet and small birds. Not as intelligent as the enza of the mountains, they are canny. (They can interbreed with the enza but litters tend to be flightless, sickly and sterile.) Wary and skittish in nature, they are very aware they are on the lower rungs of the food chain. They don’t so much as allow themselves to be domesticated as will graciously accept temporary lodgings and food as is offered. Many Hydra fondly liken Vulp to them.
۞ Hissing grakk - Quite a bit like a komodo dragon, they are heavy lizards a little larger than common pederpes. They have a vicious bite and roll with their victim to rend flesh or drown them. Surprisingly, they are herbivores favoring tubers and thicker vegetation and are generally solitary though common in the semi dry areas.
۞ Tet- Small rodents with a row of spikes down their spine a tuft of fur at the end of their tail, they are omnivorous, a common pest and the spikes on their back are barbed and snap off easily making stomping on them a generally unwise decision. They are considered disease carriers and not eaten as a practice.
۞ Badgercrocs - Solitary and rare in the wild, they tend to keep towards the mountainous areas and are found swimming through the muck or holed up in mountain caves. Hydra don’t so much as domesticate them as distract them with food in order to get the wool to be spun into a very heavy, suprisingly pleasantly textured cloth.
۞ Marwok - A billed, webbed-footed boar with a flat, whip-like tail. The bird-like bill is exceedingly sharp and in water, they can swim at incredible speeds, tending to ram/gore their attackers or prey. They are omnivorous and can be eaten though the meat has a naturally sour tang, making them a somewhat acquired taste. Badgercrocs sure do love them though.
۞ Cray - Large swampwater crustaceans, they have a hard, spiny shell, pincers, and a poisonous stinger on the tails. They are bottom feeders that eat carrion and decaying plants. They are typically trapped in wicker cages and are a favored food in the Hydra areas for their white, sweet meat. They CAN be caught by hand, but why would you want to?
۞ Tree snakes - Tasty! Constrictors and solitary, they grow up to 12 feet in length.
۞ Galla - (Beauty Pet) This strange two legged creature looks adorable at first sight. With it’s long ears, catlike expressions and hopping mode of travel, it stands out if its red coloration didn’t already mark it so plainly. It is a trap, as its jaws unhinge and can stretch enormously. They eat EVERYTHING and ANYTHING, their trails are often a trail of consumption. They have no natural predators, FAST, SMART and STRONG, add it with their non selective diet... they are the top of the food chain in the swamp.
۞ Terapedes - Though a deadly threat in most areas, in Hydra, there is such a plentiful mass of food, that most terapede nests are harmless unless specifically disturbed. The insects merely act as decomposers of carrion.
۞ Squidrats
Monoceros
۞ Shrets - An animal resembling a segmented (two parts to the torso) sheep with eight arachnid legs. They tend to travel in large groups of ten or more and favors the hilly to mountainous environments. A little gamy to eat, and wool can be harvested for clothes. Herbivore, domesticated. Tan, black and white coats are common. Brown and reddish are rare and prized.
۞ Water dogs (Yannen) - Canines are common, both domesticated and in wild packs. The native breed have awkwardly large feet and are long haired. The most distinct trait to them is the ability to breathe under water and their long tail seems to help guide at higher speeds. They love fish, but are generally omnivorous. Loyal and playful if domesticated. Named Yannen since their bark is mimicked by humans with “YAN!” and baying as “NEN!” Coats range from grey to golden.
۞ Small spiders - Hand sized, black spiders, usually found in the wooded southern areas, they are considered sacred and often given an offering of raw meat before gently removed from the house. They are colony forming spiders and carnivorous. The bite is numbing and poisonous, however they are not aggressive if unprovoked.
۞ Chirups - A species of small, iridescently green bird common to the area, fast flying and highly maneuverable, downing one is considered a mark of archery mastery. Incredibly tasty in a roast or stew. Eats berries and small insects. Non migratory.
۞ Butterflies - During the summer, fields are often filled with swarms of brilliant blue insects.
۞ Fatty lizards - Those that DO make it through both the bizarre magic of Lacerta’s lands and THEN the even more twisted magic of Lepus’ are a somewhat nervous, spooky breed, even after generations of settling. (And occasionally a little mutated) They have not been domesticated due to their tendency to stampede at loud noises. Like a sneeze. Herbivores and with no natural predators besides Monocerans.
۞ Geocoon - (Beauty pet) This strange creature resembles a giant racoon lumbering along on two arm-like legs. White and emits a soft glow, they also have patches of stone are found throughout its pelt and it is a master digger. Most of the underground tunnels you may find in Monoceros and some of Lepus are often the work of these creatures. They are omnivores by nature and generally solitary.
۞ Squidrats
Lepus
۞ Lesser spiders - From millimeters in size to about the size of a small cat, lesser spiders are small, swift and unnervingly intelligent. Most breeds are colony forming and prefer to string their webs just below the forest canopy. They work as almost a hive mind and have been rumored to be able to pick up magical saturation in the area. They are carnivorous with their primary diet being insects.
۞ Giant spiders - Giant spiders range from two to 4 feet in height from bottom of their feet to the top of their carapace. Solitary and particularly territorial, these monstrous arachnids weave giant webs, and their silk is stronger and noticeably thicker than their smaller counterparts. They are independently intelligent and while not particularly aggressive, they WILL eat whatever and whomever gets entangled in their webs. The webs are more than enough to hold all but the most panicked Lepus.
۞ Harpy - This terrifying creature is a mishmash of features. It has the face of a man or woman, and is capable of common speech. However, from there, they possess the bodies of a great lizard and a massive wingspan with extraordinarily bright, often rainbow hue’d plumage. For hair, the creature often has quills or spines and it’s lips end in great talons like a dragons. Their voice is entrancing and is often a weapon to startle off great predators or lull prey into a fall sense of security. They have lifespans into the thousands of years and impulsive but intellgent. They are solitary by nature, rare and absolutely carnivores.
۞ Derpjelly (Quezut) - (Beauty pet) When their egg isn’t spun prior to birth, Quezuts are rather energetic lake hunters. They prefer freshwater environs, particularly still or anything with a gentle current. They filter the water for their nutrition, but possess small dexterous limbs for catching their favorite water bugs. Strangely enough, they seem to be able to survive decent periods above water, and that with their generally laid back temperaments tend to make them favored test subjects of the less adventurous of Lepus’ inventors and scientists. There ARE rumors of a greater jelly, known as the Super, with amazing power and intelligence, but most Lepus consider it an old wives tale.
۞ Gyara - These round, heavy creatures have patches of thick shell scattered almost randomly throughout their brown, scruffy pelt. They have tiny eyes and heavy, drooping brows, and short, clawed limbs. Their teeth are large and square, and have about the hardness of diamonds which makes them valuable in tool making. However, taking one down is a challenge, as they fold into themselves, leaving what seems to be a misshapen, ugly rock where they stood.
۞ Craven - Large, feathered carrion birds. At adulthood they grow to be about the size of your average owl, but with a much greater wingspan for picking up and carrying whatever they can scavenge. Adept night hunters, with a batlike face and ears, they also have a long prehensile tail that they can snap like a whip at aggressors. They travel in small flocks and are omnivorous with a preference to rotting meat.
۞ Glurp - This bizarre creatures like nothing so much as a rolling mass of orange marmalade. No one is exactly sure where they have come from or why, but they slowly eat through ANYTHING. Plants, rock, animals, if anything has the misfortune of being in its path, it is probably going to be lunch. They get about to the size of a grapefruit and then divide... they do not seem to possess any intelligence or social structure and they are absolutely, completely, 120% not good on toast.
۞ Tet - Small rodents with a row of spikes down their spine a tuft of fur at the end of their tail, they are omnivorous, a common pest and the spikes on their back are barbed and snap off easily making stomping on them a generally unwise decision. They are considered disease carriers and not eaten as a practice. They are, however, experimented on.
۞ Squidrats
Cygnus
۞ Winged cats (Enza) - Intelligent, solitary and self possessed, these animals are often seen in the Diamond City though refuse all domestication. Incapable of true flight, they can make long gliding hops that help them approach squidrats undetected, of which they don’t eat so much as play with. (Rarely to death, due to squidrat’s intelligence and uncanny ability to flee everything.) They are considered good luck in most mining settlements.
۞ Shrets - An animal resembling a segmented (two parts to the torso) sheep with eight arachnid legs. They tend to travel in large groups of ten or more and favors the hilly to mountainous environments. Kept domestic for wool and meat in Cygnus and considered a non native, but highly adapted species. Most Cygnus have no idea where they came from originally.
۞ Greater Swans - A large, white, graceful bird that prefers the higher mountain climes. Its wingspan can reach well over the size of a man. It is carnivorous, preying on small animals such as squidrats, smaller birds and the winged cats common to the area. It is a sacred animal and considered taboo to hunt or eat it.
۞ Cavepeckers - Solitary. Thankfully.
۞ Wolfaboo - Solitary, quite intelligent and very, very much carnivores.
۞ Moladillo - (Beauty Pet) These are creatures often found by the miners in the Cygnus mountains. Considered good luck to actually meet one of these alive they are not usually considered to be a food source (but tasty if you DO try). These armored diggers are blind, but are an excellent indication that the area you are digging in is safe and free from dangerous pockets of gas.
۞ Squidrats
Pyxis
۞ Crats - (Beauty Pet) Most area have tet... Pyxis have crats as their predominant pest. The rodents known for scurring over the Pyxin plains are beaked and highly intelligent problem solvers with a huge weakness for shiny things. They create vast nests in the grasses and will often be a small trove of everything awesome they can get their hands on from jewels to whistles to .. really anything that was glittering. They are omnivorous and generally solitary as two of the creatures meeting will often result in a war of larceny unrivaled by any species.
۞ Dragons - There is only one known living in Pyxis lands, but this dragon is old, savvy and way more powerful than you are. No really. Living, breathing forces of destruction. It eats anything it damn well pleases. The name of the known one is Auriin and is cranky and really, REALLY tired of Pyxis warriors trying to challenge him. Usually those asking for a battle gets a heavy swat of the tail. Most don’t survive this.
۞ Chenji - These enormous black birds are awe inspiring predators of the plains. Standing at the height of most men, their wingspan is nearly three times as large. They can easily pick up a person and carry them... and have been known to pick someone up just to let them drop. They have sharp metal beaks and the tips of their primary feathers are silvery.
۞ Sessaji - Water snakes... the travel through the underground rivers for great periods of time and can breath both on land and under water. They often wait where the surface breaks into a pool and will prey on small animals gathering to drink. They are mildly venomous.
۞ Scorprid - As the name might suggest, these creatures are much like giant scorpions. With stingers and pincers, they are a formidable enemy on offense and their carapace makes them incredibly difficult to injure as well. Most avoid them, as they are dumb but incredibly belligerent in nature.
۞ Devol - A heavy set, six legged animal. It has a long snout and enormous ears that constantly swivel for unusual sounds. Their back pairs of legs are hooved and suitable for long distance running, but the forelegs are interesting because they are clawed, wide and suitable for digging for water. They are commonly hunted as food and are generally tasty. They travel in herds and feed on grasses and most smaller shrubs.
۞ Fatty Lizards - Favorite food of dragons and Pyxis warriors alike.
۞ Squidrats
Orion
۞ Gliders - A type of venomous snake that flattens and undulates its body in a twisting motion to fly from one tree to another, or drop on a dangerous predator threatening their territory. Certain Orionites have learned to tame the beasts; they form an aerial corps that fulfills military purposes as well as domestic ones. They make it easier to travel from place to place without having to touch the ground.
۞ Lower grakk - Like it’s Hydra cousin, this reptile is large, venomous and of a general poor temperament to being disturbed. However, it is generally tree dwelling and tends to hunt in lower canopy of the jungle. It’s primary meal are the treeflesh just beneath the bark and some of the thick shelled nuts found in the fronds of the trees.
۞ Bearbees - Lives in great hives deep in the forest. Some villages have managed to tame a hive or two, though the effort usually requires the entire village.
۞ Beebats - Extremely rare. If you're deep enough in the trees to see these, you're way too deep.
۞ Raptors - Pack hunters, usually in 3 or 4. Uncannily intelligent. Eats grakk, Orionites and bearbees.
۞ Tree snakes - Tasty! Constrictors and solitary, they grow up to 12 feet in length.
۞ Lureman - These lurk mostly on the floor of the jungle, although they have been known to pop up in abandoned villages and other upper-level places long-abandoned by humans. Woe be to the traveler who mistakes the light of the lureman for safety. Some villages send young adults to retrieve Lureman lights (which glow even after death) as a rite of passage.
۞ Gekin - (Beauty pet) These six legged, webbed lizards are at home in the high canopies of the Orion jungles as they are in the waters and puddles. The webbing between their limbs snaps out when they jump, allowing them to glide decent distances with a good current of air. They climb, swim and jump with admirable ease, allowing them to avoid the many predators of the wet forest. They prefer a diet of insects, but are not adverse to chewing on plants when the pickings are slim.
۞ Vez
۞ Squidrats - Pests DX The damn things like getting into Orion's precious food stores.
Cepheus
۞ Griffons - These great flying creatures stand taller at their back than most people grow to. They are regal and seem to be a mix of a great cat and bird... However are not always the most intelligent creatures and have something of a flighty temperament. In Cepheus they are often considered pests, and many a roof has caved in due to too many of them flocking to sit in a single area. They can be tamed and trained, and are used in some military aspects of Cepheus life, though are quickly falling out of favor in the means of transportation. They tend to flock, as social creatures, and dine primarily on smaller animals and birds.
۞ Wolfaboo - Living primarily in the less civilized west, they are a rare, but potentially dangerous site for travellers.
۞ Caterid - This two segmented insect is the bane of many Cephean’s lives. Almost hand-sized in length, they are a common pest, dining on just about anything semi-edible that has been left out, and their wings make a rather unpleasant whine when fluttered. But the worst part about them is the fact that if crushed they will fill the room with a skunk-like stench that lingers up to days. They are a common ingredient in practical jokes, but in everyday life, they are often captured and thrown outside whenever possible.
۞ Queen’s Bird - This bird is rather large, often the size of a house cat and tends to make nests in the rain gutters of taller buildings. They are most distinct for their crown-like frill at the top of their head, which they can raise or lower at will. Their nests are particularly troublesome because those in the city enjoy gathering spare cloth and string for its durability. They are clever and quick thieves.
۞ Glumruck - These small frogs are nocturnal and are unique for their hunting mechanism. They glow, and rather brightly. They dine on the insects that they attract.
۞ Pergren - (Beauty pet) These small canines are unique to the Cepheus area and are of particularly good temperament when domesticated, though keeping one has it’s own perils. They have a soft, furred coat that is broken only by spines on its back and a coiled, curled tail behind it... Though they have a loyal, easy temperament, these animals breath fire. More than one house has taken flame by a startled pergren.
۞ Fatty lizards - Penned, bred and herded as a practice in farm lands to the west of the great city, they are a stable food source for this area.
۞ Bibliowls - These mostly-harmless (but extremely grumpy) birds love paper. They make great nests out of it, given half a chance, and often roost in libraries and bookstores. Even underground ones. It’s not unusual to come home to the library in your basement and find a tiny infestation of bibliowls lurking there. Their feathers are rather papery and are said to be the best material for quills. Especially if you have lots of paperwork to do.
۞ Squidrats - Yes, they have your wrench.
Canis
۞ Beebats - The bee bats of this region form colonies in the domes of caves and other rock shelters.
۞ Bearbees - Always found near beebat colonies. They are not commonly hunted in Canis lands due to the large golden bears being considered sacred.
۞ Dragons - There is only one known living in Canis lands, but this dragon is old, savvy and way more powerful than you are. No really. Living, breathing forces of destruction. It eats anything it damn well pleases. The name of the known one is the Old One and calm, measured and graceful. He will sometimes mentor those who are brave enough to ask, and wise enough to do it after he has taken his seasonal meal.
۞ Jek - Skinny, long faced bipeds, they closest resemble tan furred monkeys with lizard like tails. They are moderately intelligent and seem to have actually created some sort of communication system between themselves. They are also fearless, approaching both prey and small villages with the same casual confidence. They are omnivorous and live in small groups.
۞ Chirrah - (Beauty pet) This quick and nimble bird is fast and clever. They often exist in small groups and are actually not competitors for the beebats honey as many animals are when colonies exist. They actually tend to prey on the bearbees instead. They drink their blood as a feeding practice and whole flocks of chirrah often gather to descend upon a single weak or young bearbee who gets separated.
۞ Djint - These slow blue, spined creatures are easily twice the size of your average man. They are armor plated on nearly every surface of their body, like a fatty lizard, and many simply stare down at the foolish predator or person trying to bring them down and wander on. When angry, a stampede of these heavy legged creatures shakes the land for miles. Grazing herbivores, they feed a group for a long time if downed.
۞ Squidrat - Squidrats in Canis have a peculiar social habit and acquired habitat in these lands. They live in burrow colonies in Canis and tend to drag their food and whatever shinies have caught their beady little eyes into their complex underground mazes. Reclaiming what you lost tends to involve a shovel and a lot of luck.
Lacerta
۞ Kimp (Green Child) - These bipedal lizards are approximately the same height as a small child and their demeanor often resembles one. Usually swathed in cloth, they impersonate people for as long as it amuses them. They have quills down their backs which are venomous and can actually be shot for a few feet of distance. They have a great affinity for shiny things and are mildly psychic.
۞ Silksing - These ethereal creatures resemble nothing so much as fluttering V in the air that drags a sheer, opalescent veil behind it. No normal creature of flesh and blood, this strange insect moves almost like an aerial jellyfish and the shimmering trails it leaves in the air is some beauty to see. They take no normal food or water, but instead feed on the natural magic of the land. They are normally solitary and considered by some to be good luck spirits; however, particularly strong mages may attract whole swarms of them for their travels... a beautiful, but ultimately dangerous sight.
۞ Warbler - A songbird with a long, fin-like tail. They travel in small colonies and are a favored meal for stews.
۞ Sapling - (Beauty Pet) Despite the misleading name, these creatures are not trees or even... possibly plants. Believed to be tree spirits by many Lacertans, these bipedal creatures often live in deeply wooded areas and rarely stray far from the water pool where they were born. They have a somewhat waspish temperament, and regenerate when hurt. They don’t need to eat anything as long as they have sunlight and water.
۞ Beebats - Commonly attracted to silksings for some reason no one really knows. There may be some magic involved as the wines made from their honey is said to be incredibly intoxicating and reminds anyone who drinks it of a comfortable, lazy summer.
۞ Bearbees - Less common in this area, they are as typical, found often near a beebat colony.
۞ Pederpes - Derpy lizards in this area are sleeker, faster. They prefer trees and often have a mottled brown and green coloration. They are agile and can jump from tree to tree with ease. Their running speed on land is far above a humans.
۞ Purrwisp - This four legged mammal is some bizarre mix of a fox and weasel in appearance. Sleek, elongated in form, it’s face poofs out into a cunning, wedge shaped look. Perhaps most noticeable is its huge black eyes, and fanning, furred tail. It has a slow, lazy walk and bright red stripes through its black coat. … It’s lazy demeanor has a good reason, feeding only on poisonous plants and insects almost every inch of this adorable looking creature is toxic to the point of deadly.
۞ Squidrats
۞ Pipe Fox - More spirit than animal, these little creatures hang around the pure, old places in Lacerta (of which there are many). “Pure” can be anything from a idyllic grove to an old musty well that hasn’t been touched in centuries. As long as the taint of pollution and technology is far, far away. They love water but breathe small puffs of fire when startled. Legend has it that they can transform into great nine-tailed foxes, but few have lived to see such a sight.
Pavo
۞ Wind runners - These mysterious creatures are almost more of a phenomena than something anyone has been able to confirm as an animal. They seem like shimmering lights in the night sky and tend to be pushed around by gentle breezes. Large swarms of them are almost their own light source and they are considered incredibly lucky to see. They do gather in groups though single sightings are not unheard of. All other details about them are completely unknown as they simply disappear if someone attempts to catch them.
۞ Peacocks - These birds are particularly prized by the Pavo royalty and are considered to be both a source of inspiration and beauty.
۞ Fatty lizards - Domesticated for both labor and food, they also make the highest quality soaps from the fats of these creatures.
۞ Fluff owls - (Beauty pet) - Delicate, persnickety birds, these owls often nest in the towers of the Pavo lands. Their tail, unlike most birds, is not a fan of feathers, but a prehensile tail, which glows with a moderately powerful light. Also unlike most birds, they are herbivores, particularly favoring breads when offered, or berries when left to their own devices.
۞ Giant ants - Live in great colonies in the wild, and those hatched in captivity tend to work both as beasts of burden and assist in many of the construction projects. They are basically intelligent and tend to follow orders if amiable to doing so. There are several species that exist though only a few can be seen in settlements due to temperaments and inter-species aggression.

Delphinus
۞ Playfish - Highly intelligent aquatic mammals. They swim and pods and love to torment unsuspecting land animals that end up in their waters. It’s rumored that they have psychic abilities, although there are few playfish whisperers outside of the merpires. Most land folk never run into them.
۞ Ottish - (Beauty pet) At home on both land and in salt and fresh water, this playful mammal seems to roam wherever it pleases. It is long and sleek furred, able to swim at incredible speeds and seems to control it’s path effortlessly with its fins. Its primary diet is fish and typically live in pairs.
۞ Messenger’s Flames - Semi-aquatic fireflies. Although they love the water, they’re never found out on the open seas unless they’re attached to a boat; they tend to chill out on the beaches and the water closest to land. For that reason, it’s said that the light of Messenger’s Flames guide wayward ships home … or lead them onto the rocks if they’re not careful. Some ships take along a cluster of them under the bow or in the crow’s nest for good luck.
۞ Terapedes - Nasty bastards. Fortunately not to be found at sea, although the land holdings of Delphinus are still vulnerable.
۞ Merpires - A long time ago, the Moon and the Sea fell in love. The result of this union was the first Merpire, and from her descended a long and complicated line of sparkly sea nymphs. Although full merpires can withstand direct sunlight, they don’t particularly like it, preferring the more diluted rays that penetrate the surface of the water. Moonlight is, naturally enough, much more pleasant.
۞ Sirens - A distant relative of the merpires. Sirens are amphibious, beginning their lives as tadpole-like creatures in reefs and other havens and slowly moving back onto land. They spend most of their lives somewhere in between, like reefs with exposed rocks or secluded coves. A siren must touch seawater every twenty-four hours or risk becoming permanently landbound. Like merpires, sirens are essentially human(ish) and can interbreed, although finding one willing to give up his or her aquatic heritage for a life on land is rare indeed. Siren song is inherently magical, with a variety of different effects. Some songs lure in sailors; others heal.
۞ Clownsnare - Killer seaweed. Woe be to the ship that blunders into a patch of this on the open seas. It tends to clump in large patches, making it easy to avoid if you don’t sail right into it, but once it’s infested a ship it’s ridiculously difficult to get rid of. It’s been known to spread to land if an infected ship returns to port. Customarily, such ships are denied entry and burned at sea.

Lynx
۞ Orvi
۞ Tet- Small rodents with a row of spikes down their spine a tuft of fur at the end of their tail, they are omnivorous, a common pest and the spikes on their back are barbed and snap off easily making stomping on them a generally unwise decision. They are considered disease carriers and not eaten as a practice.
۞ Tsenna - These graceful, small creature is a bit of a mix between an ermine and a ferret with just as many legs as both creatures put together. They are adept climbers and can do some amazing feats of dexterity and twisting to avoid being caught. They are omnivorous and prefer smaller creatures but will eat shrubs nearly whole if they are particularly unlucky in their own hunt. They have been known to be domesticated and sold as pets.
۞ Quizen - Lightning birds. Long plumed birds of red and gold, they are most noticeable for their soaring, gliding flight and the crackling light that seems to gather around them. They will swoop and brush their prey, stunning them with electricity before capturing or devouring the unfortunate creature. Their diet is primarily small rodents and other birds, but they have been known to attack humans firing arrows or bullets at them.
۞ Fucking Jackalopes - No one knows what they eat. And no one cares. Lynx has a rumor that if you eat them they are instantly fatal to the poor fool who tried it.
۞ Skidcats - The natural enemy of squidrats. Named for their impossible speed (and tendency to come to a screeching halt in front of something valuable and/or fragile), these feline creatures are a bit bigger than regular cats but not quite the size of a full wildcat. They’re … semi-domesticated. Sort of. You wouldn’t want to be caught in the woods with a pack of them, but it’s not uncommon to have one to protect your home from pests. They have a tendency to wake their “owners” by sitting on unfortunate bodyparts. Their eyes are usually gold and their ears are long and tufted. Their paws are especially large -- for the aforementioned skidding -- and polydactyl.
۞ Clearwings - A translucent beetle that emits a distinctive rattling noise when disturbed. Although rarely poisonous alone, they are highly deadly if you disturb a swarm of them. They can be rather difficult to spot, seeing as how they tend to be transparent most of the time. They look a lot like due when massed on plants and stones, although they tend to live in areas where water is relatively scarce. This gives them the nickname of “false dew.” If you wake up and a swarm of these buggers has decided to perch on your lawn, it’s time to get a new lawn. They eat grass primarily. Cracking open a clearwing hive produces a strange, sweet-smelling liquid. Look, but don’t taste: the primary ingredient is arsenic.

Corvus
۞ Orvi - While they range into the Lynx area, the Corvus are known best for their ability to train them for riding and other work.
۞ Firebirds - It is honestly unknown whether firebirds are animals themselves whom are able to survive in lava or are fire elementals themselves. Either way, they do exist on a great deal of magic and are highly territorial and possessive. They will often leap out of an open vent, hit the cooler air and turn to ash... only to do it again. They WILL attack and drive off whomever approaches them, but will not leave their area. Their diet is unknown but they are solitary in nature.
۞ Gremmy - This spined creature has sharp, flat, glassy plates covering its body as a natural camouflage in obsidian fields. They eat insects and some smaller plants and are known for getting into boots and sunning on saddles making them a rather unintentional if painful pest. They can be pried out of their shell for a tangy flavored meat.
۞ Raptors - Species in this area are known to have a black or red coloration and have particularly heavily padded feet for ease of movement on the terrain.
۞ Rikkets - Ragged and feral canines with long, bright yellow stripes. These pack hunters are omnivorous and have been known to circle a single person and take them down. They hunt livestock and are a general menace at night. They are naturally wary of light and do not come out during the day.
۞ Drewich - These small, three legged creatures scurry out in the dusk and dawn hours to drink the condensation on the stones and catch insects. They are vaguely wedge shaped and heavily furred. They work in small groups and sleep under stones during the hotter hours of the day. A large group of them leaving is a very good indication that the area is about to become unstable.
۞ Pederpes
Tet- Small rodents with a row of spikes down their spine a tuft of fur at the end of their tail, they are omnivorous, a common pest and the spikes on their back are barbed and snap off easily making stomping on them a generally unwise decision. They are considered disease carriers and not eaten as a practice.
