renascent years - out of character

Hi all! I'm a new new person here, and I bring you yet another Weasley. (Is there no end to this family?) :-)

Me: I'm Alissa! I go by Callirhoe online (on LJ, among other sites) and Vana Tuivana for fannish things (on LJ as well, and FF.net and a bunch of other places), in case anyone might recognize me by those names (doubt it, but it's worth a try?), but please call me Alissa, for simplicity's sake. I'm twenty-one, and it's the summer before my last year of university; I'm studying English and preparing to write my honors thesis on a topic in medieval literature. What this means is that I'll be spending all my time next year in the library, but it'll be fun, I promise!

My boy is Louis Weasley, Bill and Fleur's youngest child and only son. He's got about a zillion cousins here already, as well as his twin sister! So, you know, it's just what the world needs, another Weasley. But he's fifteen, anyway, and a 5th-year Gryffindor.

Louis (pronounced, I should say now, the French way - he gets very annoyed if you call him "Lewis", but I like to do it for the lulz) is a nice boy, I promise. He's not much interested in girls, but he likes some of them, especially if they're his cousins. And he plays sports! If there is ever a football game, a race, a snowball fight, or anything... Louis will be the first one there and the last to leave. He is a very active, very sporty kid. Flying, too; he loves Quidditch, although he's a better fan than a player. He's sort of Quidditch-obsessed and knows players and stats better than he has any need to. The last of his trifecta of all-consuming interests is animals. He's much like his uncle Charlie in this; Care of Magical Creatures is his absolute favorite class. He used to want to be a dragon keeper when he grew up, but not so much anymore, I don't think.

He's a fun boy, though. He's generally nice, easy to talk to (though he definitely likes action better than words), and very, very easy to persuade into shenanigans. He's inherited both the French/Delacour high-strung temperament and the Weasley penchant for risk-taking; he fears neither pain nor death detention, so when he gets angry he tends to fight. He's extremely loyal to his family and friends, and he's a follower rather than a leader. If your surname is Weasley and/or Potter, he will do what you ask him to without much hesitation.

When he's not being his reckless self at Hogwarts, Louis moonlights as an Aussie actor named Rhys Wakefield who is allergic to shirts. Whether or not Louis is likewise allergic to shirts has yet to be determined.

So that's the short(er) version of Louis (which was faaar longer than I meant it to be, sorry); the longer one is here, if you're interested.

I'd love to backstory with you all and figure out some pre-existing relationships for Louis with other characters! I would especially love some antagonistic sort of relationships to build on, because those are more fun than hunky-dory friendships. Also: running buddies, people who can be relied upon to get a football match together when he's bored, classmates, crushes, partners in crime, etc.? :-) I'm available sometimes on chat as listed in the contacts post (AIM: thetuivana; YIM: vanatuivana); otherwise, leave me a note here and let's figure something out. I've been reading some of the game threads and it sounds really fun; Louis is looking forward to having some new adventures with your awesome boys and girls. <3

Hellooooo adoring masses everyone! Whim here, with a second character being thrown into the fray! Meet Malcolm Baddock, 7th year Slythering, captain of the Quidditch team and all around arrogant jackass. He's pretty sure he's god's gift to the world, and is definitely not afraid to show it. Quidditch is basically his life, by the by, and he takes it Very Seriously. He's a pureblood but not necessarily the biggest stickler about blood purity, although he does have latent pureblood ideals. Mal's also got a tendency to go through girls like parchment and yet still somehow maintain popularity among them. Who knows how.

He's a pretty straightforward guy, so head on over this way to find out more. I'm totally open to backstorying (I'D ACTUALLY LOVE IT LIKE BURNING) so hit me up on AIM or post here or whatevsss. Friends, enemies, girlfriends, you name it, Mal and I want it. So backstory plox!

Also, one thing you'll never find out? That Malcolm isn't really his first name. It's his story and he's sticking to it!

Okay everyone, we should wrap up the Halloween threads soon and move onto solving the Murder Mystery game and then onto the Challenges. For anyone who is playing the current date: November 7 Since yesterday and until tomorrow there will be a blizzard raging on. Specifically the first snow of the year and it's coming as a storm at that! Quidditch practices are canceled as Madam Hooch has deemed the sporadic moments of hail and wind to be dangerous. In fact, most outdoor classes are canceled. For Herbology Professor Longbottom has actually assigned them readings instead. Oh, and it's currently *week-012.

As for applications, we know a few of you still have pending apps. We'll get to them! I was sort of hoping for the Halloween threads to be wrapped up before we let in a new batch of characters (to avoid confusion!) but it seems the threads are going slower than we initially anticipated. The apps will be read within the next couple of days, we promise!

Hey everyone, my name is Donna and yes, I am new. =) I might be a little slow starting off in this game because I am currently in California visiting my boyfriend and I have limited computer use right now. -__- But I promise that I wont be completely MIA and will in fact be using this computer as often as I can. YAY! I am really excited to meet you guys and hope to interact with as many of your characters as I possibly can. I am extremely friendly and easy to talk to so don't be afraid to just jump out of bushes and shove your characters at me to interact with! =) Which brings me to the main reason why I am posting right now.. my "baby."

I bring to you all, DANIEL DAESUNG KYEONG! He's a Sixth year Ravenclaw obsessed with schoolwork and pleasing all the adults around him (especially his father), and is for the most part always stressed out beyond belief. I mean, it's not that he LIKES to be obsessed with schoolwork and the like, it's just that he HAS to be this way otherwise risk the consequences from his father. He was brought up to be a learning machine and nothing else, so I am hoping that he could make some friends that can kinda teach him the meaning of the words, "FUN" and "RELAXATION." Other than the fact that he's eating, sleeping, and breathing schoolwork; he's a really sweet kid. He's incredibly caring and extremely loyal to his friends and always tries to be there for them if they need him to be. For the whole kitten-caboodle go ahead and pop over to his journal to read more on him.

I am open to anything and everything... from friends to enemies to crushes, you name it! It'd be nice if there is some backstory as well.. like a best friend maybe? Haha. Anyway, it's very nice meeting you all and I am looking very much forward to being part of this game!

OKAY, so, remember how the Calendar said the First Challenge will take place on November 2? We think that date will end up being moved just to be sure everyone gets their chance to finish their Halloween threads and play the Murder Mystery game (PLEASE!) with no worries.

So, it will most likely end up happening on the 5th instead. That should also give enough time to the new players to read up on WTF is this challenge deal and find their teammates (just browse their old journal entries and say "YO!" or something, almost everyone seems to have made a "private to team" post of some sort or have started a thread/log that could still be jumped in on still).

HELLO EVERYONE, IZZZZY HEREE. I bring you ASHTON CHAMBERS, but he likes to be called ASH. Do NOT call him ASHLEY. Or DIE a terrible, HORRIBLE death, really. Seriously. maybe not

RIGHT, SO. Introduction thing that I am forced to do but hate. Ashley is a RAVENCLAW, and he FRIGGIN LOVES HIS HOUSE SO GO RAVENCLAW QUIDDITCH TEAM AND HOUSE POINTS AND STUFF. SRYSLY. He enjoys his homework like, no one else. Really, it is like candy to him, water on a hot day, and kisses from Nunnally a pretty girl. It's THAT GOOD. Oh, right, he has that same enthusiasm toward his classes too, even the ones he completely bombs at because he WANTS to do good in them and just CAN'T AND IT IRRITATES HIM LIKE NO OTHER.

Oh, right, and he's a PREFECT, and he takes his duties mildly serious. He likes warnings and "OMG DO THAT AGAIN AND I WILL MURDA YOU, but you have a second chance anyways so GET OUTTA MY SIGHT." Unless he doesn't like you. YOU don't get second chances, you get the SELECT CARD: GO STRAIGHT TO JAIL, MISS THREE TURNS, DO NOT PASS GO sort of treatment. House points deducted and all, so watch out!

Ashton has come VERY Gryffindor like qualities (BRAVERY, RAWR, AND COURAGE) but he came about them in a very Ravenclaw like manner, which means he used his brain and thought things through and isn't afraid of a lot of stuff cause all he fears is deeeaath, cause you know, he isn't one for the whole dying thing. At least not anytime soon! O: (He hasn't discovered the whole "the only thing you should fear is fear itself" catch phrase, ha.) He's very logical, and he likes to work situations out by planning until he can't plan anymore. He doesn't rush into ANYTHING without having thought it through first. He's also patient to a fault. He can wait FOREVER if he has to for someone to come to his way of thing, but that doesn't mean he won't push the subject.

OH RITE. He's also a FUNNY MAN. He LOVES to joke around and laugh and be a complete loon. He's not afraid of being a dork to get a laugh, either, or donning a girls uniform and strutting around like he's hot shit to get people laughing. He's very forward in his speech, and he's not one to watch what he's saying at all.

I know all of you went off online costume shopping for your characters, don't deny it because I certainly did as well! Now what good was all that shopping if we don't get to show them off? Well not very good I'd say, so here is the solution:

'Allo, 'Allo! My name is Kelly, I am evidently new, and I am here to introduce myself as well as a new character I have brought along. His name is Dalan Williams, and he claims that you should all already know who he is. He's Chuck Bass.

Dalan thinks that he is pretty amazing. Everyone else is just jealous of how great he is. He's obnoxious, he's a jerk, and when you meet him he doesn't seem to have many redeeming qualities. That's mostly true, except if you're female. Then Dalan can be quite the charmer, until he gets what he wants. Then he'll stop talking to the girl completely.

Why anyone would want to be friends with him is beyond me, but he can possibly be a nice guy if someone were to get over the fact that he is so damn cocky. He's loyal to a select few, and he's a pretty fun guy in general.

SO ANYWAYS, basically I am looking for backstory of any kind, be it friends or enemies or frenemies, etc. If you wish to speak in great detail on this subject (you know you do), my AIM is newsuperpickle1. Otherwise, a comment would be just dandy.

ETA: And... apparently I failed to mention he's a 7th year Slytherin. Good work, self.

HEY THERE. So, my name's Megan andddd this is... Beauregard Alphonso Smith. One of the most unfortunate names in the world, so he goes by the slightly less unfortunate nickname of Alpha... which his father picked out for him. Pretty mockable, but it's kinda one of those things where... if you grow up being called Scooter, Buddy, etc, you just get used to it and it becomes normal for you.

He's a sixth year, Hufflepuff. Quidditch Captain and... pretty much insanely in love with the game. Go figure. Mmm... his app is posted in his journal, so FEEL FREE to check it out. He's kinda blunt... not really a fan of sugarcoating. He's likely to answer you quite honestly if you ask his opinion. Super klutzy off the broomstick.

Ummmmmmm... BACKSTORY? Friends, enemies, etc, etc, etc. ANYTHING. Oh, yeah, and my aim's liddlevonskittle.

The skill-ful and talented more ways then one of you catch his drift ... I bring you James Sirius Potter. Like for serious. And yes he has heard all the jokes and he loves them. And no you may not touch his hair on promise of death. Unless you're super cute and want to meet him in an empty class-room. Cause he's RANDY baby. Or at least he'd LIKE you to think so.

I am so excited and happy and weirded out with myself to bring you James. Wow. What can I say about James? How about he's the total cliche of being not what he seems but exactly what you think. Is that a cliche? lol idk. It sounds like one. James is cocky and confident and damn sexy and he knows it. And girls love him. Boys too. And he knows it. And James hasn't been with HALF the people that everyone thinks that he has been with and hasn't done HALF the things that he likes everyone thinking he has done but that's fine with him if no one ever knows that. James will flirt, charm, manipulate (in the nicest sense) any one and anything with legs. He can be a bit chauvanistic, really egotistic, and he is so full of himself sometimes it's disgusting. It makes me laugh really. He's the over-protective big brother. I mean really. I mean he hovers like a 'coptor with engine problems and does not go away. Just thought I should share. James doesn't pull that route only on the sibs. Oh no. He likes to share the Jamesie love. Female, and even male friends, beware. James knows what is best for you. Do not argue. Do not. Just don't even try. And Merlin forbid you tell him what is best for him. Ha! Because no one knows more than he does.

Oh and Slytherins. Ewww. Like cooties times THREE trillion! Hates them all. It's really, REALLY, like boy george without the mascara rare, that he gives them a chance. Sorry. Oh and James is supremely lazy. He used to foist all of his chores on Albus. And he's bossy. So imagine THAT!

Now onto the boring stuff that makes him actually sorta likable. James? James. The stupid dud actually has to be a genuinely nice guy. And I don't mean 'oh ... he's nice .. I think'. James is nice. Give you the shirt off my back while the artic is blizzarding enough for polar bears to ice skate kind of nice. He's loyal and determined and despite being possibly one of the most laziest people to work on earth (Even more than his uncle Ron! lol) he is really organized. And that shows through his quidditch. Quidditch means so much to him. So very much. But not the world. The thing which has James heart and soul is music. He plays the guitar and the flute (the latter is recent) touch either and he will break your fingers. No more mister nice guy. Though James is a total sweet-heart. He might call people poofters and call things 'foofy' but he really is. Only those really, really close to him knows this though. It's debating that his siblings do, cause James doesn't even know it. Uhhhh Oh. Of course. BIG James thing is that he's total on the noble thing. Yeah like Knights. King Arthur. Chivlary. All of that. Meaning he'll always do the right thing by everyone. Sometimes his pig-headedness gets in the way of things and he'll say and do regretable things but in general James is a good-hearted and caring guy.

Oh yes. The pranks. He is king. Even when it is the most childish and corny of pranks. He is king. Don't even try to top him. You really don't want a broody and sulky James on your hands.

Another thing. One last important thing about James. Other than the fact if he isn't hoping around his mind is thinking up something ... is that he will probably be one of the people to eat Hogwart's tarts, pies, and stone. He eats so much and never gains an ounce. He's one of those. Is it possible to want to beat ones character over the head?

Friends. Family? Rivals? Past loves (James has been known to lean towards boys but it has been mostly girls)? Quidditch mates? Whatever? Say something. Jamesie loves the attention!

Okay, so, Hallowe'en fun!

As everyone knows from the calendar there will be a costume party. The Prefects/Heads have decided the theme has been decided to be a Masquerade with clothing from the major (muggle) eras: specifically the 1900s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Thinking film noir is cool too, because dun, dun, dun: the second part of the theme includes a Murder Mystery!

Sometime during the party, four victims will be "murdered" They won't die for real, of course, they'll just end up taking a potion that puts them to sleep (though physically make them look properly dead) brewed by Parry and Issy. Let's hope they don't mess up the potion!

Anyways, these murder victims will be randomly chosen by the Murderer (whose indentity is a secret so keep it hush-hush, Mr. Murderer!). Clues will be laid out on the scene, suspects chosen and once the murderer is discovered (or not) by the end of the two hours, the potion will wear off and the victims will become "alive" again.

OOC wise, we wouldn't want you to have your characters fall dead on you without notice so we would like four characters to be volunteered. ♥ Preferably, we would like characters with sleuthing capabilities to remain undead and play the murder mystery game!

HELLO EVERYONE. ATTENTION DEMANDED! OR SOMETHING, HARHAR.

Anyways, not that you are hopefully reading this, Denise(♥♥♥) brought up the lovely subject of the Gossip Column again (which I swear I had meant to get to waaay before now!). I take full credit for it not having happened yet, as I never went back and made an official post and let everyone know what was happening with it, so I'M SORRY! I've decided that an unnamed student will be publishing the column every couple of weeks to get the heads spinning. It's not all correct, and its not always good. Some of the things are true, some are just rumors, and some are things that the unnamed character made up simply to get the people talking and stirred up. Ruffle some feathers.

Anyways, the Gossip Column can't really go anywhere without a little help from all of your characters! So, if your character wants to over hear something, or make up a rumor, or tell a rumor that they have heard PLEASE go over to the Ryears Gossip Talks Journal and comment away!

The gist of how the commenting works, is that there is a small box (wooden, something you might see in an office building for comments or 'how are we doing' crap) in the Great Hall. It just appeared one day before morning breakfast, and it constantly whispers for people to feed it rumors, something like, "Hey, you over there! Yes, you, that's right. Anything interesting you would like to tell me?" "Heard anything juicy today?" In a very feminine, sing song voice. It's pretty stuck there, too, so don't try and run away with it!

Any type of gossip is good gossip! The whole Lily/Scorpius romance that is going down right now? Gossip Talks would love to publish something about it - would be definitely fun, and could cause some ruckus in the mists, as James Potter (older, protective older brother who will naw bones apart if you touch his little sister) could discover the relationship out that way, or something! Anything fun like that, really.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW, AND ARE LIKE WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? This is the idea I came up with a while ago, and here are a few links that you MIGHT find a little helpful. Just sort of the main idea, and then brain storming afterwards.

Is anything being done with the 'Gossip Talks' column? Because right now would be a perfect time to get it started--there'd be lots of stuff to talk about.

Also: How would everyone feel about some sort of note getting around, maybe some sort of ranking system some student had set up, and it getting leaked and people finding out where they ranked in terms of looks and other superficial things? I'm thinking that'd spark some controversy :-P

Sup gaiz, I'm Whim, bringing you a new dude! This is Edward Michael Corner, son of, hey-o, Michael Corner. He's a 7th year Ravenclaw, and an Extreme Nerd. He isn't sure what he wants to do with his life yet, so he's in a lot of classes-- meaning his social life? Probably kind of non existent. He's not a big flirt or anything, nor is he a Quidditch player, so he's probably not ~*~popular~*~ or anything, but you know, he's cool with that! Why hello there, everyone! My name is Michelle, and I'm a new kid bringing you Andy Finnigan; 6th year Gryffindor Beater. Unlike some beaters we know, he is pretty intelligent, and is most likely going to pursue a career as a Mediwizard (but he doesn't know this yet, so shh!) due to his excellent grades in Potions and Herbology, the only two classes he's good at, to be honest. He comes from a very large family, with two older brothers and one younger sister, and has trust issues instilled in him by his super independent mother. These trust issues were worsened after a very bad relationship with a girl in his 3rd year (who is it? nobody knowsss) and he hasn't dated since. Pobre Andy. :( At first glance Andy is seen to be kind of uncaring and cold, but once you get past all of that he's really a pretty nice guy. He's a bit spacey as well, probably from being hit one too many times in the head by bludgers. He's also extremely reckless, and can often be found in very high up places, followed by a trip to the infirmary, his second home. IF you want to know more about Andy and his history, just go here!

it's nice to meet you all, and I'm really excited to play! If you guys have any plot ideas for mister Andy here, just drop a comment!!! :)

It seems we have a case of Comment Rot as somehow all the comments on the class schedule page has somehow disappeared. Squeaky is supposedly fixing these issues for IJ but I'm not sure if we'll get them back so, we re-pasted the class schedules in a new, fresh, comment rot free entry. If you guys could drop off your character's classes again it'd be awesome!

Oh, and Friends update, as we have more new players.

Just a little reminder on tags in renascentyears All you need to do is tag the week, your own character's name and characters who reply to the thread (though they can do that themselves too). In other words, it should look something like this:

*week-009, hugo-weasley, rose-weasley

The other tags such as !events, !interhouse-challenge, !etcetera and so on are for special plotty posts so try not to use them.

Secondly, we've added a new rule. Again, it's more of a reminder since we never listed it before because we felt it was pretty obvious. Rule number 10, which I'll copy and paste it over here:

No.10 - Thread/log reply length should be adequate to reply to, this is important. This means no liners, two liners or three liners. We understand that occasionally a tag can be short here and there in a long thread but every tag in a thread/log shouldn't be that short. Replying with short replies makes it hard for the people playing with you to reply back with ample amount of information. Try to keep it a paragraph length.

Finally, please update your friend's list! We've cleared out the last set of inactive/dropees.
