Date/Time; November 5; 10:45 AM
Where; Room of the Challenge
Warnings; ?
Status; incomplete

All the students were to be lined up in their respective teams and ready to face what they would be once the doors opened. Of course, each team was to go in team by team and wait until the previous team finished before the next team would enter. They were also told to be quiet so as to not accidentally assist a different team – though there would be no chances of slips, there was a competitive feel to the air.

The challenge would take place in one of the DADA classrooms, the largest one and currently both Headmistress McGonagall and Professor Longbottom was standing outside. The former faced the students with an impassive expression while the latter was giving encouraging smiles all around.

"Phoenix," the Headmistress announced, "it is now your team's turn to enter the room. I do hope you have all prepared. And good luck."

The room they were ushered into was dark, so dark in fact that they would need to provide their own source of lighting if they were to see more than three feet in front of them. There was also a dank, musty scent that was usually not found in the room, as well as a light breeze when supposedly there were no windows in the room. Now, what will the team do?

"Woooah, hey now. Someone is getting a little frisky! Just because it's dark doesn't mean I don't feel your roaming hands, was that you Shin? If you wanted to touch me, you just had to ask." Ashton was certainly not first in the room, but apparently he was the first to say something. He wondered what his teammates were thinking to keep them so tight lipped. "Bit on the darker side, yeah? Wonder who turned the lights out. Oh, right, don't you two love birds go and get the wrong idea. This definitely is not the time for a good snogging." Leave it to Ashton to start cracking jokes right away.

"So, how about those lights now? One of you lot got a wand? I think I forgot mine. I would Accio it, but I don't think it would work much. Not so fancy at wandless magic, you know." Hadn't you ever heard the world was a stage? Ashton had, and he pretty much thought it was about the greatest thing written or said, ever. He hadn't forgotten his wand, of course, he was a Ravenclaw, and vastly intelligent, and therefore forgetting to bring it on today of all days would have been illogical.

"Sort of breezy in here, good thing I'm wearing pants and not robes, you all might have been in for quite the show."

"Hilarious, that's what you are, Ashton, just hilarious," Shin's dry tones broke into Ashton's chatter. "You forgot your wand?" he muttered in a way that even without being seen it was obvious Shin was pursing his lips in disapproval and shaking his head. "Everyone else present and accounted for?"

Of course, Shin had his wand, along with a number of other items stuffed in his pockets to deal with whatever came their way. If he'd known about boy scouts then he would have ruefully acknowledged he was a model of the 'be prepared' motto. "Lumos" Shin held up his wand and gradually light started to illuminate the team's surroundings.

Before anyone could answer Shin's question of 'everyone else present and accounted for?' a strange, high pitched snickering was heard as if the sound came from just a few feet in front of them all. As soon as Shin's Lumos was lit though, there was nothing that could be seen aside from limited space in front of them with dusty surfaces, rotting fabrics and perhaps a little too many spiderwebs. There would appear to be a fork in their path, one to the right and one forward, the one forward resembled a tunnel that one would find out in the wilderness going into caves. The path to the right opened up into what seemed to be another room, or at least that was all they could see due to the limited lighting anyways.

So, which path will this team decide to go on?

Scorpius stood still where he was in the dark room, taking a moment to give his eyes time to properly adjust before advancing any further. He laughed to himself at Ashton's comment before rolling his eyes exasperatedly at the comment that the other boy had forgotten his wand. Surely no one would be that stupid? Particularly if they were in Ravenclaw!

He sniffed the air, that wasn't right, and total darkness would suggest they were hiding something, or they could be just trying to psych them out. He visibly tensed on hearing the snickering, there was something unpleasant about it.

Spured on by the laugh he join Shin by casting 'Lumos' to help them see further. Spinning his wand round he searched in vain for a glimpse of what they'd heard, but he could see nothing.

"Any ideas?" he asked on noticing the forked path. None of the routes looked particularly desirable, yet still he could feel his heart pumping with excitement; they didn't get to take part in things like this. He always enjoyed a challenge. "Do you think there is a 'right' and a 'wrong' path, or do you reckon they both lead to the same thing, or that they form a circular route or something?"

At the sound of the snickering, Ashton's own wand was fished from his pocket, where of course it had been the entire time, despite his attempt at humor. "Lumos," He muttered shortly after Scorpius, his eyes darting about quickly, taking everything in, analyzing as quickly as he could their surroundings. The wind must have been coming from the tunnel he assumed, and maybe the smell as well. Who knew. The snickering was another question entirely. "I don't think we should choose a path just yet, I think we should look around. Would be like them to try and throw us off with the decision of choosing a route to what is, or could be, in the room. You remember the first half of the riddle? I always assumed Doxy's."

Ashton, despite his outward appearance of often the jester, was still very much a Ravenclaw. He had thought about the riddle ever since it had been first introduced to them, and his conclusion was that the first creature was a Doxy. He hadn't really discussed it much with his teammates, however. "What do you all think? On the riddle, I mean?" Ashton was already inching toward the rotten fabrics, but his movements were slow. Not unsure, but cautious. "I did bring Doxycide, just incase. Anyone else?" He made a show of pulling the spray bottle from his pocket, which probably shouldn't have fit inside it, and grinned stupidly once he had it in hand.

"Right we are then, where should we start?"

The snickering was unpleasant, but Shin tried not to be unnerved and presented a neutral, extremely calm expression. "Judging by our surroundings then I say Doxies are extremely likely," he smiled slightly at Ashton and produced his own bottle of Doxycide. "In which case we should be well prepared," he considered the idea of searching the room. "All right, Ashton, I agree. To be completely sure, let's do a quick scan of the room, but if we don't find anything in a couple of minutes then progress onto a path. My vote is for the one that looks like another room."

He smiled in amusement as he too produced a small bottle of Doxycide "Great minds think alike..." he murmured, still scrutinizing their surroundings.

He nodded at Shin's words, although he couldn't help but feel that the tunnel was calling to him. "I am a little worried about the so called 'room' though, I think we should be particularly cautious, it's almost as if they want to lure us into a false sense of security with that route."

Ashton edged toward the fabric more so, bottle raised, but he wasn't ready to pull the fabric up and see if anything lay underneath just yet. He grinned broadly when Scorpius produced his own can of spray, "Good to know we all thought this through, then." At the mention of which room to progress into he paused in his movements and glanced toward both entrances that lead to very different settings.

"I actually think we should take the tunnel. The riddle, remember? If this is indeed the first part of the riddle, then the second part of it is in one of those rooms... and well, it did say it was rock solid or something, yeah? Makes sense it would be in a solid area then, hard to see if it's what I think it is. Would be a bit of a challenge, trying to find our pray without becoming the pray ourselves in an enclosed area like that." Which actually made the room sound safer, but Ashton wasn't the type to go with safe. He was the type to think things through logically and then go with the best decision he could come up with concerning the situation.

"Right, then, lets see if our Doxy theory is correct, shall we?" He raised the spray once more, his other hand grasped a piece of fabric and yanking.

Shin wasn't too happy about having his suggestion shot down, but he controlled his expression and nodded. "All right, let's take the tunnel after investigating this room."

He moved to a position opposite Ashton, spray and wand at the ready for anything that came out.

Scorpius looked from one boy to the other in the dim light, feeling that there was a clear disagreement over which route to take. "Shin, I think that if what you said is right, and one of the other creatures is a Pogrebin, then it is likely to be down the tunnel. After all, it's supposed to enjoy trailing people, and seeing as its head looks like a rock it'd be easy for it to hide behind us and blend in down there. Maybe one of us should walk backwards or something so we can observe all angles and Stupefy the thing as soon as we see it?"

He also moved around the room cautiously. He'd rather not start the task with a Doxy bite afterall. "I have to say..." he murmured, determinedly pulling at bits of fabric and peering in dark corners "...that whatever route we take I suspect we'll come out of the other and that it's a circular route. That way they can ensure we encounter everything from the riddle at some point; whatever route we go."

...and they would find nothing under the fabric that Ashton yanked. At least nothing but a few scampering beetles and perhaps a millipede that had been their lunch.

Another tiny snicker was heard, to Ashton's left before he would feel a sharp bite on his right ear before a retreated buzzing. Yes, they were right, they had a case of Doxies on their hands and because they weren't in the room long enough to make nests in draperies, the boys would have to keep their heads up and arms fast to keep from more bites.

Damn, nothing under the cloth like he had suspected. Frowning, he poked at a beetle as it rushed for cover, none to pleased with himself. He was positive it had been Doxies, and weren't the old, dust covered cloths the perfect place for them to reside? He hadn't taken in the account that the Doxies were newly added to this environment, and so nests were not likely to be formed yet. He jerked slightly at the sound of snickering, but before he could seriously react he felt a painful sting in his ear and snapped his head to the left. His wand went with him, and he caught the sight of the retreating Doxy with his wand light, "Doxies! Little fucker just bit me." In his reaction, he wasn't one to soothe his words.

He ducked his head as another came toward them, managing to dodge the little beast this time, but he fell backwards when another one tried to grab a chunk of his nose for dinner. He landed on his side and a glass crushing sound was heard, "Ah, shite, you've got to be kidding. I just broke my antidotes in case of a bite." He hoped someone else had come prepared, he really didn't fancy the idea of dying. He had told himself enough that dying was his only thing to fear, and who would guess he would actually have to face up to it at Hogwarts, in the safety of other students. It probably wasn't a good thing that he was feeling slightly woozy now, but that wasn't going to stop him from helping out.

He aimed his Doxycide at another incoming creature as it zoomed toward them, wondering how many were actually in the room. He attempted to dodge left and fell forward slightly, uneasy on his feet. Ah, shite, he was supposed to take the antidotes asap, wasn't he? He shook his head lightly and forced himself to concentrate. He could do this.

Fending off Doxies with a combination of wand work and Doxycide, Shin managed not to get bitten. As soon as he heard Ashton yelp about crushing his antidote, he went to the other boy's side, spraying three Doxies heading for him.

"Here, I have some," he managed to juggle wand and can, and then get a vial out to press into Ashton's hand. "I'll hold them off," Shin told him.

Scorpius swore under his breath as Doxies attacked them. He heard Ashton announcing he'd been bitten, and vowed the little bastards weren't going to get him too. He sprayed at them as the dodged and weaved the beam of his wand light, finally managing to spray a good few of them successfully without getting bitten. He waved his wand and cast a shield charm at the bunch heading towards him, giving him a minute to check Shin and Ashton were doing ok.

Brow furrowed, waited for the shield to break and them sprayed them "got you, you little buggers" he muttered triumphantly.

Ashton shook his head quickly, trying to clear it. Think, right. When Shin offered him an antidote he smiled gratefully, "Thanks, mate. Just saved my life and all," He added with a slight wink. He really doubted the Professors would have let him sit there and die, but it was better this way as he didn't have to leave his team to get patched up. He swallowed the liquid quickly and grimaced, wondering momentarily why every potion he had ever drank tasted foul. He dodged to the left when a Doxy came zooming toward him, feeling more steady on his feet this time as he rushed forward, capturing the Doxiycide he'd dropped in his hand and spraying at the little beast before it could get away. It instantly froze midair and dropped to the floor. He nudged it across the room with his foot.

He summoned a shield charm shortly after Scorpius had done so, blocking several Doxy's from attacking him as he backed up enough in order to spray them all. Hand raised, he doused them as soon as the shield faded and whooped triumphantly as they, too, fell to the ground like stone. "Take that, you dirty little dust bunnies. Teach you little asses to take a bite out of me." He continued his fight against them, using both his wand and the Doxycide.
