Howdy all!

So I'm part of a mod team of a game that's turning 1 in a couple of months, and we're discussing doing community wide awards.

I've been in games where this has been done before, awards are usually very pretty and cool and it makes for a good way to get the players to recognize one another and for us to recognize them as well. We're really into the idea.

But I'm not really sure about how I would make the awards so that they're nice. I want them to be nice and clean and pretty but nothing too cheesy or overdone. I've been playing with graphics for years but sometimes I find that that I try to do anything involving colors/pics/text, it just sort of looks amateurish and dull, so I need to learn some new tricks.

Any tips? Particularly with laying text over images, that would be immensely helpful.

This is probably a silly question but does anyone know where I can find images like the banner/the christmas tree/the reindeer in this picture? I've tried google but with no luck! Thanks for any help.

I know this has been asked and I can't find the post, so I'm sorry to ask again, but does anyone still have a link to the website that had a ton of icon buttons? I don't want to download any packs for various reasons and I remember the site that was linked through here had the buttons all laid out to just be saved individually. I appreciate it!

With Christmas right around the corner does anyone know the codes for IC gifts? Where you click on a picture of a tree ornament that links you to something else? I know this is probably really simple but if anyone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it tremendously.

Question here to all icon makers: how does one going about iconning screencaps in a fashion that is consistent? Do you batch the icons despite the varying lighting of the screencaps or do them all one by one?

Where do people find the cool graphics they use on their journals to link to their directories, threads, customs etc?

this might be a silly question, but where are players finding those icon sets to link their bio and lines to? they're usually made up of a book (for the biography/directory), and they usually seem to be black and white instead of colored. not the tiny icons that show your rp preferences, these are almost about the size of 100x100. like the ones seen here and here.

So I have a question for you all. Some time ago I had a website that listed actors and actresses by hair colour and it was MASSIVE. Say you wanted someone with blonde hair it would pull up a massive list of all the actors/resses etc with blonde hair.

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

hello, everyone! So, I'm not exactly new to the community but this is my first time posting and while browsing through all the extremely helpful links but I still haven't really found a basic icon making tutorial. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just your simple tutorial on how to properly icon photos so they don't look blurred or grainy, etc. For example these. (my apologies if that's your journal but I totally dig how simple and clean the icons look!) can anyone help me out? Also, what programs do you as icon makers prefer to work with? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Until recently, I've been pretty decent at cutting my own videos with YouTube Downloader and making GIFs out of them, but then out of nowhere, I started running into a quality issue. Now, I'm not sure whether it's just this particular video that I cut because I haven't found the patience to try anything else at the moment, but it's driving me up a wall. I've tried several times now, but I keep getting the same results.

I don't know all the technical lingo, but I do believe the problem I'm having is called banding. In other words, every GIF I save under any setting (I keep referring to Google with my problems) comes out with wavy lines of color that weren't there before. I'm aware there's a speed problem with this particular GIF.

I'm not worried about that because I can fix it myself, but this quality issue is really starting to annoy me. What am I doing wrong?

Does anybody know how to make a header + topbar journal on LJ and would be willing to teach me/send me to the link that teaches you how to combined both? I'm a fan of the flexible squares and recognize most of the sections and such in it so if you could link me to something that teaches this, that would be wonderful! <3

Also, I'm wondering if someone could tell me what makes a file .psd? I mean, I know it's a Photoshop file but is it just a type that is associated with the program or is it something to do with coloring?

I know this doesn't have a whole lot to do with RPing but I didn't know where else to go!

Just yesterday, I discovered the Chicago-based comm textsfln which makes use of the website textsfromlastnight.com. Basically, you choose three text messages, and each of these are woven into a line from the past, present, and the future.

While creating my character (I'm still in the process of writing her) I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe I should make use of the media templates at rp_tutorials?" A few moments later, I came across this. Although it's a wonderfully crafted template, it wasn't exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that looks like this.

I think a template in which a user can edit the sender's name and message would be very useful for games that rely on characters using social networks.

There are these gorgeous codes used to make profiles and such (like this) but they require using using an external site, like Scribbld.

I do not understand how these things are used, how they are put up etc.

Is there anyone that could explain this to me in a simple way that even a non coder like me can understand? I would really appreciate it.

Is there any way to do rollover images in journals without referencing an external style sheet? I want to do a rollover image but I fear it's impossible on IJ in entries. Can anyone confirm this or tell me how I would do it if there is a way?

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I have looked under every tag I could think of before asking. Sometime back I remember seeing a post about how to edit out the gifsoup.com watermark, but I shamefully neglected to favorite the link. Could someone point me in the direction of the post, please?
