It was just by luck. That particular character journal is a paid account. I put in the flexible squares layer provided by nameless_layout on the account and got lucky with it actually working. I've found that some (and not just flex squares) will not work on IJ for whatever reason, even if you have the proper layer for it on here. The majority (from what I've tried anyways) does work at least.
