2.
For the writers out there, do you think roleplaying has helped, or hindered, your ability to write (as in short stories, novels, etc... other than storybook-style rp). Please share.

I've been role playing for a few years and I really think that role playing as helped my writing style a lot. I've always written short stories but role playing has helped in get into my characters a bit more.

I find that it's hindered my ability to write other things, almost completely. Though at the same time, it's helped in a lot of ways as well. Ever since I started RP'ing, I have made/had less time for regular old writing, because when I am online and writing stuff, it's usually related to RP.
But when I do sit down and write, I've found that my characters are so much more interesting now than they ever used to be, and I have an easier time getting into them. They are definitely more three dimensional than the characters of my pre-RP'ing days, much more realistic and much more flawed. So I guess RP'ing has helped me to develop more true-to-life characters...when I can be bothered to write about them!

I think it has done both for me, in the ways of writing old stories and such it gives me ideas to how to throw things into a story idea. Or to make a story from a character I love so much. But in ways it hasnt done much good for the fact of writers block sitting there within writing a story, whereas roleplay you have someone on the other end to help. But either way, I think its done more good than bad. Its given me the ability to pull my creativity from wherever it seems to hide no matter which Im planning on doing.

It depends completely on who I am writing with. I have found that writing with another writer either inspires you to do better or they suck so bad it rolls out of the computer and attacks you.

It's hard to say since I've been roleplaying almost half my life. But I'm pretty sure it helps. Actually, I think any writing practice helps, and the more detailed the scene, the better it is.

For me Roleplaying is a big help in writing. It's why I had picked it up in hopes of being able to keep my writing abilities fresh. I've been at it almost ten years.
