Charles Grey had found that, with tours and excursions cancelled indefinitely, he was spending more and more time at the hotel pool. It was a nice pool, to be sure, with a window at the end that opened onto a marvelous view of the hotel hot tub and Chilean scenery beyond, and probably the most entertaining thing to do with the hotel on lockdown. The most entertaining thing besides drinking anyway, and even a murder investigation couldn't bring Charles Grey to make a habit of day-drinking. He was whistling as he strolled into the pool room, a towel slung about his neck. Even with everything going on, he had to keep his spirits up. He stopped whistling when he saw that the pool had another occupant, the hairy American tour guide. Charles didn't mind. Some company would do him good, and maybe, as a hotel staff member, the tour guide would know something useful. Charles smiled brightly at him. "Hello, old chap!" he said. "How are you this fine afternoon?" |
